Sometimes I'm a little slow...

If you don't like to read, you may be bored by this post!!!

I've been going to the library weekly for at least four years. I spend most of the time searching out interesting books for my kids to read, and once in a great while I get some time to look for books that I would like to read myself. I always seem to be in the middle of some book, if not two or three books occasionally. Yesterday Ruth, Ethan, Aidan and I went to the library and Ruth played with the boys while I got 30 minutes to browse around and choose some books. I only stopped when the stack of books was from the bottom of my hands to my chin. I couldn't carry anymore! I had gone and found some children's books during this time too. When I got home, I realized something...I had seven books for myself, and six of them were non-fiction. I never realized that I like non-fiction so much! It took me four years of going to the library weekly to realize that most of the books I get for myself are non-fiction.

So then, last night I was joking to Christian that I would be neglecting him and the family for three weeks because I have seven books to read! And I said, "So many books, so little time." And then Ruth pointed out, "Wait a minute. Didn't you get a book at the library with that title today?" I looked through the books, and sure enough, I had picked up a book called exactly that title written by Sara Nelson. I hadn't paid enough attention to realize that at the time. I really am a little slow sometimes.

If you are interested in non-fiction books, one of my favorite of all time is called Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl. She was the New York Times restaurant critic, and she talks about going in disguise to restaurants because otherwise people would recognize her. Maybe I love this book so much because it combines two of my very favorite things: reading and food. Anyway, if you like to read, check it out!

I love being a spacey mom. We are reading Their Eyes were Watching God for book club right now. Tell your mom thanks for her post. It was helpful and I laughed because I don't think my mom even READS our blog and now one of my friend's moms has commented on it. And I laugh so I don't cry. But mostly because that's just plain funny.

I LOVE those a-ha moments when we learn something new - especially when it is about who we are! LOL
