How Did the Pioneer Woman Do It?

Here is the Pioneer Woman's main page.
Here is the post talking about how her blog started two years ago, and has become what it has today.
Here is the post where, as a celebration of her two year anniversary to the blog world, she gave away a Nikon D80 camera (around $1000) and an HP Photosmart 8180 printer (around $500). She gave about 12 hours to post a comment.
She got 14,500 comments.
In 12 hours.
I'm lucky to get 14 comments.
How did she do it?
Now, I know she's an excellent writer. I know people relate to her. Her writing is G rated. She has a fantastic and expensive camera that takes beautiful pictures.
Anyway, she kind of blows me away.
And I have a 1 in 14,500 chance of winning a nice camera.

Now, here's the second part of my post:
I just found the Pioneer Woman two weeks ago. Even though people had talked about her before, I had never bothered Googling her. And now I'm hooked because she is such an excellent writer (and heck, she gives away nice stuff!). So, I want to know what other blogs or cool websites I'm missing out on. What are the cool blogs you check out? Who writes exceptionally well? Where do you go in outerblog space to get a laugh, or learn something, or relax? I love finding new places to check out.

If I gave away a camera, would I get 14,500 comments?
How about an 8 year old couch that we're letting go when we move? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I am sure that she has advertised if not now then in the past. When Rick had his own website we did some advertising and his view count went up dramatically. Plus she probably gets lots of word of mouth. As for paying for the prizes, she probably gets lost of money for the ads she puts on her website. We could make $100 or so on Rick's website a month when it was at it's peak and that was with between 1000 and 2000 views a day. It sounds like she gets way more than that.

That's Great! I love The Pioneer Woman too. I got most of my Thanksgiving recipes from her. James thinks it's weird that I read a complete stranger's blog, but she is dang funny. Make sure and catch up on her Black Heels to Tractor Wheels love story. Another nifty blog I've come across is wantnot.net. It has tons of deals on how you can get free shipping or who's doing a mega clearance blow-out sale.

And yeah, I don't think I will ever have 14,000 comments cumulative on our blog!

I, too, just found her a few days ago thanks to adrie and you. WOW! I am in awe of the whole "how does somebody get here?" thing. I am now obsessed with her blog.....OMSH, the gal who created her blog design for her is pretty funny and also my friend (who is best friends with OMSH has a entertaining view on homeschooling at www.balancingeverything.com. Check them both out!
