Here are some of the highlights and lowlights of our trip:
The night before we moved, there was a HUGE lightning storm in Ames. It was so huge that for about 30 minutes we didn't have to have any lights on in our house and we could see everything as if the lights were on. For 30 minutes nonstop. It lasted from about 2:30-3:30, and there was no sleeping during that storm. I told Christian Iowa was giving us a goodbye. And he said, "Or maybe Iowa is telling us goodbye and good riddance!"
So then when we went to pick up our Budget truck, the internet had been knocked out by the lightning and it took them AN HOUR to get it back up. And they wouldn't let us take a truck until they got the internet working. They wouldn't let us do it by phone or anything. Even though they had our credit card number, and we had ordered our truck two months ago. So I was ticked, because we didn't need to start a day like moving day (and driving 8 hours) an hour late! Happily though, our truck only had 2800 miles on it, so it was nice to drive a brand new truck across the country.
And while we were there waiting we were making small talk with another couple who were waiting. They asked us where we were moving and when we told them southern Utah, the guy said, "So, are you going to let them turn you Mormon?" Christian said, "Actually, we already are Mormon." Oops to him. Maybe next time he'll think before he speaks.
So then in Ogalalla, Nebraska, we check into our hotel and went to eat at Arby's. Aidan had said about 30 minutes earlier that his tummy wasn't feeling very good. He wouldn't eat his dinner, and we tried to talk him into it (big mistake). He took one tiny bite of Christian's reuben sandwich, and threw up all over himself and the table. Then I looked at him and could see that a second round was coming, and there was nowhere else for him to throw up. So I put out my hands and caught it. Well, that ended my appetite for the evening. So I didn't even get to enjoy my french dip because I was too nauseated myself. We cleaned up as best we could...moral of the story: don't let your children sit in booster seats at restaurants. You never know what kind of germs are left behind (EWWWW!)
And, just before Laramie, Wyoming, the check engine light went on in the vehicle I was driving. Of course, I freaked out because Christian was behind me and still in the mountains so he didn't have cell service. But I finally reached him, and we pulled over, went to an Autozone to borrow their computer to find out what was wrong, and to make a long story short, it was some weird fluke. We reset the computer on the vehicle and it never came back on again. So we feel like God was helping us for some reason, maybe to stay out of an accident or something. But we spent an hour in Laramie and got to know it pretty well.
Highlights: the boys were fantastic for the entire 20 hours worth of driving. There was only one fight between them. Besides that, they played, they shared, and even better, Christian took them each for a few hours in the truck.
When we got to Cedar, 5 members of our ward were there ready to help us unpack the truck. It was good to get to know some of our neighbors, and it was nice to know that we have a ward who is willing to help out.
We love our house! It's beautiful, spacious, quiet. We can stomp, and no one underneath us complains. I haven't even started unpacking the kitchen yet; the oven looks like it has never been cleaned, and I refuse to cook anything in it until I clean it. So we have been eating lots of peanut butter and honey sandwiches. But when I get things unpacked I will put pictures up. Even the rock wall in our back yard is the coolest thing ever to our boys. We see chipmunks in them all of the time, and Christian took the boys climbing to the top of the rock wall a couple of days ago. We are so glad we chose this house.
That's all for now. See you on Thursday or Friday!

I can't believe you caught his throw-up in your hands. If I did that, I would have puked too! Thanks for the warning about booster seats!
So glad you all made it in one piece. You guys deserve the best! See you in a couple weeks!
What a great update--glad you made it okay and things always work out, don't they:). I also can't believe you caught his throw-up. So funny to imagine the scene, although not so funny at the time I'm sure:).
OH MY!! What an exciting trip.. ha ha. Well at least you made it! Congrats on the move and the house!! We love you! Wish we could have been there to help with the move but work=money and well.. we need it. :) But we love you guys SO SO SO much! And we'll see you soon!
Welcome back to Utah. Sounds like you had a FUN trip. Oh memories...you will always remember (throw up and all). Glad your trip went safe. I know what you mean about moving into someone else dirt. My next move into a house will include a professional cleaning done before I move in. You probably know what I mean!
Why is it that our first reaction to a throwing up child is to stick out our hands? Just let the kid throw up all over anything but you! Nope, I do it too. YUCK! Sounds like an eventful trip. Glad you made it safely, and the cars are doing well. It's very good that your kids were so good the whole trip!
We ALSO got sick in Ogalalla (or somewhere very nearby, I can't remember). I think NE has some funky water or something, because I never have stomach issues, and boy did I ever. Nice.
Iowa also stormed the day we left. We actually left in the evening. It felt so strange saying goodbye to Iowa in the dark, but we were just trying to make it to Lincoln, so the next 2 days wouldn't be so bad.
I'm so glad the boys were great! And I'm glad you feel so great about your house! I wish I could say the same about stomping on the floor. You can hear everything in our little granny house, but we like it anyway.
I'm glad you're "home" again.
Yeah, Congratulations! I must say though that you left before the real midwest storms rolled in! It has been record breaking rain and flooding! Needless to say I am so done with rain!!
