If you have ads on your blog, and you had to choose, would you rather have us:
- leave a comment OR
- click on the ad on the sidebar
How does it work? I'm curious. How much money do you get, on Google Ads versus BlogHer versus whatever other advertising company you use? Do you get more when someone purchases something after clicking over from your site?
If you don't have ads on your blog,
- how do you feel about ads on other people's blogs?
- do you even notice them?
- do you ever click on them?

I use to have google adsense, but I did away with them, because they looked like crap. Now I just have a Top Spot section where people can "tip" me $5 and they can leave an image link up for 1 month.
It works for me because I really don't do anything they click on the spot and add their link and pay through paypal.
It's okay. This month has been slow, but I like to blog so it doesn't matter.
Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha
I only have BlogHer ads. I signed up as a member with them and I honestly went to the ad page on their site and registered my email address thinking that they would NEVER contact me to put ads on my blog. I just did it for kicks. It said there would be a really long wait but I got an email the next day saying they'd like to put ads on the EO. I hadn't been blogging long and had NO clue about it really. I just thought, what the heck. I really knew nothing about it. And I still kind of don't. I get a check here and there, and it's not very much. I don't even keep track of how long it's been or break it down or think about it. It's just kinda fun money. Very little fun money. I'm sure CJane, etc make more than fun money. You'd have to have a lot of traffic for it to really be much.
I read a lady's blog once that was saying how much she dislikes ads and that she feels that if she had them she'd be asking people over for a coke and then asking them to pay for it. I understand those feelings, but I guess it all depends on the intentions.
I'm no perfect angel, but I really don't care about the ads or the money. I would MUCH rather communicate with my blog friends than have them click on the ads. I really don't care. I simply like BlogHer, like being a member and appreciate them "promoting" my site so I can meet up with more lovely people. I hope to go to BlogHer one day to do that.
Good questions, lady. Sorry I wrote a post :)
I don't usually click over on the ads unless it is something that I am REALLY interested in. I don't mind them, whatever. It is their blog.
I put adsense on my blog just to try it out...but I don't think I get nearly enough traffic for it to amount to ANYTHING.
personally, I don't have anything against the people who have ads on their blogs...but I'd much rather form the personal relationships with other bloggers than just have them come to my site and click ads.
I like Stesha's idea...seems like a good compromise!
I almost never remember to click an ad. I sort of feel like clicking on an ad is like "throwing a bone" at a blogger I like. Stesha's idea is a great one, but in truth, my blog has so little traffic right now ( must have alienated a few people somehow?) it wouldn't be worth anybody's money!
I'm on the fence with this one! I have toyed with the idea of putting ads on at least one of my blogs. But can't make up my mind. I personally don't mind ads (either way) on the blogs I visit. But I have been to some..where they are excessive and I find it distracting to visit them.
If it was up to me..I would rather have a comment over the ad click (and the pennies that comes with it). That's my 2 cents on the subject! :)
I have adsense on my blog and it pays very little--unless people are clicking on the ads regularly, you get nada. If I could have a click OR a comment, I would take either one--as long as I got one! =)
I have had blogher ads for about 2.5 months. I would rather have comments. I get paid on a combination of clicks and impressions so just by showing up at my blog, it goes towards the paycheck. So far, however, I haven't gotten one, so . . .I just see it as a nice extra if it happens, if it doesn't, oh well! Comments are way better!
I don't mind adds unless they're all over the place. I don't want them on my blog, though (too cluttery and I want everything on my blog to be something I've chosen.). I have suuuuuuper low traffic (and I'm not just being modest) so I'm sure I wouldn't make anything anyway.
I recently put a thing up in my sidebar about the Freedom of Choice Act (fighting it, actually) because I feel strongly about it, but it sort of looks like an ad, and I don't love that.
I don't mind them...but so far I've never clicked on one.
I don't have ads either, and people tell me I'm crazy. If I could get sponsorships, with cute little buttons like TAMN does, I would consider it. And I probably could, if I wanted to put a lot of work into it. She makes a A LOT of money.
But, I don't really love the look of Blogher ads, and Adsense for my blog, so I choose not to do so.
And I almost never click on those ads.
I don't notice the ads which means I don't click on them. Comments are nice, but not the reason that I blog.
I don't mind the ads, but I usually don't click on them. I haven't been blogging for even one full month yet, but have noticed that when it is mentioned in other blogs, not much moo-la is being made.
I don't have ads, but it doesn't bother me if other people do. I may or may not click on them. it depends on my mood, honestly.
Do both click and comment. I need some extra cash.I make nothing off the adds in reality but I keep hoping...someday
I dont' care if people have ads, I generally don't even notice them. But sometimes I click, if something interesting catches my eye.
I have the AdSense ads, and have had them for a year. Still haven't gotten a paycheck because it's basically nothing you get paid unless you have tons of traffic. I think AdSense works better for a more focused blog...like Exercise and fitness like my mom does. Her ads all have to do with that, so people click all the time and she gets a check every month.
I blog because I like to, so if I ever get a check from ads that's just icing on the cake I suppose.
I would much rather have comments on my blog than ads. I gotta have that bloggy love!
I would have ads, however, if my blog was dedicated to a home based business, then I wouldn't mind a few ads.
I clicked on my first ad yesterday. It was a cute shirt from NW I think. I really am not into blogging for the ads. I think it is great if you make money at something that you enjoy doing. So if your thinking about it, go for it.
I have ads on my blog and I don't get paid for people clicking on them. I get paid for advertising space.
honestly, i rarely notice them, and therefore never click on them.
I don't have any ads, and I've never clicked on anyone's ads either. I definitely don't think it's "selling out" to have ads - it's just not for me.
I've never clicked on an ad. But I wouldn't begrudge anyone having them.
I don't have any ads, wouldn't even know how to go about getting one and really not interested.
If I see one, I don't even click it. I am usually so busy reading the post and about the blogger, that I miss a lot of the sidebar stuff.......

I'm ambivalent towards ads on blogs. I know that I don't get enough traffic on mine to merit putting ads there and I really don't want to. I don't think I've ever clicked on an ad from someones blog. I may have but I don't think so.
I don't click on ads. Don't mind them unless they are taking over the blog. Mama Kat actually posted a breakdown of Adsense today. Maybe you should check that out.

I honestly dont notice adds on other people's blogs. Usually because it just blends into all the other side-bar stuff. I don't click on them either. Im usually just on a blog to read...
I haven't noticed ads on other blogs, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't click on them...if I did, it would be a rare occasion. No offense, just that if I'm spending time on my computer, I'm stingey about it.
I don't really notice ads much. But things are so crazy here right now It takes everything I have to even leave a comment on every post. But know I l♥ve and lots and try :) ♥ Hugs!
I never click on the ads. Ever. It's just not my thing. I am not opposed to others having them on their blogs though.
Ihave ads. I haven't made anything yet but figure it isn't hurting or costing me anything. But I also lcick on ads from other blogs because I am a shop o holic. So the ads I post I keep to that which I think people who read my blog MIGHT be interested in. I also have clickable icons that aren't ads. Some are companies that have given me something so I want to pay them back by giving them some exposure.
But i'd prefer a comment anyday. But usually I'm just happy with visits. I am a statcounter junkie
I did not even know there were ads! I just blog for the therapy of it and love to read others blogs to see what is going on out there. I also learn fun stuff - like your Dr. Seuss. That was fun:)
I feel like the majority, Generally I am not a clicker on other people blogs. It makes me feel like I'm moving or looking under thier furniture or something. But if you have them. Good for you , it is your blog do as you wish..
I've heard that Adsense is spyware, and not good for your computer.
I click on cute button ads once in a while. I figure most of the cute buttons have a woman or mom in business behind them. I definately have no problem supporting other women in business... especially if they're doing it from their home to be with their kids.
I think that five dollar tip idea is an awesome one.
Different angle here--I don't have much of an opinion on the company-style ads, but I'm on the other end: trying to decide if BUYING an ad (like the buttons on TAMN--only cheaper!) would be worth it.
On some blogs, they probably would be.
I've never clicked on an ad. I usually don't even notice them. But if folks want to do that on their blog, that's fine by me. I don't have the traffic to warrant any. And that's not really why I blog anyway.
I had ads on one of my blogs and never got ANYTHING. It was just wasted space, so I eventually removed them. If people are making money off them, I'd love to know their secrets!
I had an ad from adsense on mine, and I never chekced to see if it made anything- I am sure it didn't, but the ads were hilarious because they change them according ot post subjects. They always made me laugh, so I kept it for the fun of it. I realized about a month ago it was gone....I have no idea where it went!
I'd say selling ad space is the better way to go, rather than pay-per-clicks. Then you're guaranteed a little $$ and you can control what is on your site. Make friends with people with cool etsy shops and bring them on board. I will only click on stuff if #1 I notice it and #2 it interests me or is relevant to my life. In general, I think I'm hyper-aware of ads only because I majored in advertising. Noticing stuff like that is my 6th sense.
I don't have them. I usually don't notice them unless that is all the blog is about then I usually don't go back.
I just blog for fun.
I would rather have comments, does that make me lonely?
I took the ads off my blog because they weren't very profitable. But, I think you may benefit.
I hate google adsense! We had it on our blog at the beginning and even though it was supposed to match our content they were always putting up ads about trailer parks or something. Lame!
With our advertising now, it doesn't matter if people click on the ads or not. We get paid depending on the traffic to our site. And honestly, I'm not one of those "I refuse to advertise because I blog for the sheer joy it brings to my soul" kind of people. Sure it's fun for me and I enjoy it, but it's MUCH more enjoyable when it comes with a paycheck!
I don't have them but I'm not saying I never would. However, I might notice them on someone's site but I don't think I've ever clicked on one. And comments win!
Personally, I don't like the ads on blogs. I am there to read what they have to say. I would much rather people comment than look an advertisement, but I guess I don't have to worry because I don't have any ads.
I've not put ads on my site. My traffic is way better than I ever imagined...which I LOVE so I wouldn't want to do anything that would discourage people from coming to visit. I love the comments and love hearing what people have to say...so no ads unless I get desperate lol.
Nice to meet you! Yeah, I just put the adsense on my page to get to the bottom of all this nonsense myself!
I've never cared one way or another about ads on someone elses page, but I've never wanted to clutter up my own page with them.
And now I have.
The ads are less about trying to make money off the people I blog with and more about justifying the amount of time I spend blogging.
"see honey...I earned THREE dollars today!! Now don't bother me, I'm working." ;)
I would much prefer a comment over a click...blogging is about interaction first and foremost.
Great questions though!
I don't have ads on my blog. And honestly I never really notice the ones on other blogs. I'm not sure why...probably b/c I'm more interested in reading the posts more than looking at the ads.
I have never clicked on any of those ads, I think they are kinda in the way of everything else and to me they just seem to clutter up people's blogs, although if you really can make money from them I would say that its a great idea.
I never even notice the ads. I thought about setting ads up on my blog, but I thought they would ruin the quiet dynamic.
Honestly I don't think they're a big deal. I click them if they're interesting. I'm just not sure how they work.
In the order I got them
strawberry
Thumper (yes the rabbit from Bambi)
butterfly
Ok so I just did everything and I don't see it. I don't see yours either so I'm just wondering if you can see mine. I'll look at home also to see if I can see your or mine.
Thanks again for this tip!
Never notice ads, never click on them. Probably never will.
I've been wondering about all those questions, myself, bytheway - thanks for asking them!
Silly me, I always wondered what those were for? I've never clicked on them nor ever plan to. I love comments!
I would be lying if I didn't say that I want to be a millionaire from blogging. I'm just to lazy to do it.
I like the relationships I have with people-- so the commenting would be WAY more important to me.
