Exciting News

My sister had her baby! Even though I live five hours away, I had to drive up to northern Utah to see my sister and her baby. It was a very spontaneous, scary decision for me to drive five hours with two children without my husband. I only cried a lot a little before making the decision. And it (the drive) was absolutely worth it.

I'm still at my parents' house, and there is no way to get a picture I took of him from my camera to their computer. Believe me, I tried. So bummer, you can't see how cute he is.

So, do you want to know how my week of service went? I really had fun figuring out things to do. Among some of the things I did: I donated to a good cause; I brought cookies to an elderly man who lives across the street; I visited with a sister I visit teach who just had surgery; and I very selfishly selflessly drove five hours so I could watch my sister's older children while she was in the hospital with her c-section. (Let's not mention the fact that when my two children get together with her two older children they have so much fun it doesn't require too much interference on the adult's part. And let's not mention the fact that I got to hold a beautiful newborn for hours on end.) Anyway, it was a great week!

This week, my goal is (hopefully) easy: in bed, lights out, by 11:00 every night. I tend to be exhausted by 11:00, but I love the quiet time in the house so much I stay up later anyway. I hope to listen to my body and go to bed when I am tired, instead of holding out rebelliously until I can't even think straight anymore. Good luck to me!

And good luck to any of you who choose to do a goal For Just One Week!

Glad your sister had her baby and that all is ok. Maybe you can load the pics when you get home?
Hope you have a safe drive.

FJ1W-I will commit to my writing. I started a chapter (free-writing) and the first chapter looks great. Of course I need to write some revisions but I am going to see where this one will take me. I am learning, slowly learning. I think my writing has gotten better. What do they say? Practice makes perfect. Some day, you will see me in print. AND not just on my blog...Have a great week Erin. I am glad you are my bloggy friend. Maybe some day we can meet in person, (if that is not too scary for you...) LOL.

Congratulations to you, your sister and the whole family. New additions are always so exciting. In your shoes, I would have made that same drive. Some things you just have to be there for.

I love your 'just for one week' posts. Going to bed on time sounds like a good one. I'm 39 minutes late for curfew!

Oh I love new baby smell! Lucky you. That is the For Just One Week Goal that I have been contemplating doing but don't dare put it in writing. (because I know that I will probably not do very well and then I will have to be accountable).

New babies are so wonderful. And that first long drive with kids is nerve wracking. When I first got married and found out that my SIL drove from Utah to CA regularly with all 7 of her children and no husband I couldn't believe it. I thought "I'm not that brave, I could never do that." But here I am, 8 years and 4 kids later and I've done St. George at least 3 times and CA twice by myself with kids. And it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It gets easier every time.

Oh Erin. This is so me. I have had an 11 PM bedtime goal for about 2 years. Sometimes succesful (like once every other month)...but I too relish the productivity & quietness I acheive past kids bedtime.

Congrats to your Sister! You are so nice to travel so far!
