Even though my family is/was sick, and even though I have lost my mind, we had been planning a trip to central Utah for over a month to camp at Goblin Valley State Park last weekend, and we still ended up going. (We went with friends, and we all had a great time.)

This is petrified wood at the
Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. Can you believe the gorgeous colors?

These two pictures were taken at
Capitol Reef National Park. Our favorite part was the scenic drive (which is paved), and the dirt road that leads off of the end of the paved part. You are driving right in between two cliffs. It's breathtaking.

And these photos are from
Goblin Valley State Park. It's so desolate out there, but just amazing how all of these "goblins" have survived the erosion of the area.
While we were camping, Aidan informed us that he had become an expert at:
- peeing outside
- climbing up cliffs
- sliding down cliffs
- roasting marshmallows

(This is the cliff he was talking about)
Thankfully, we saw no real goblins. But we did have a bat flying freakishly low near the children at our campsite. And the wind was blowing like 40 miles per hour our second night there. But considering I haven't gone camping for two nights in a row since we got married (I'm an overnight kind of gal - scratch that, I'm a hotel kind of gal) I did really well and truly enjoyed myself!
(P.S. My reader has over 400 posts. Sorry!)

I would really love to go there. But I would not want to be an expert at peeing outside. Ever. :) I haven't been camping in a long, long time -but I used to LOVE it.
(Minus the peeing outside part. I'm not a fan. You know.)
I've never been to Goblin Valley, but it looks stunning!
I never been there either, I would love to take my kids their some day! bats... Ewwwwww!
Im not sure i ever made it there and I grew up in utah, now I want to take my kids looks like fun.
We have become a camping family with all of my boys, we will have to try out goblin valley next year.
It's really embarrassing that I have never been to most of Utah's State Parks. This one looks cool! We will have to go someday.
And Petrified wood is one of the coolest things on earth!
Camping is too much work for my laziness! I will do it when pressured by my peers though
You always do such fun things with your family!
Oh, I love Goblin Valley. My family used to camp there every summer. We used to play hide-and-seek in the goblin formations. Ahhh, what great memories!
So ... someone actually carved goblins there? I am so ignorant of states other than my own (yes, I OWN California)I'm embarrassed to ask. (But notice, I did anyway) Off to google it!
I have never been there, but the pictures are so amazing!
Don't you love how convenient boys are for potty breaks? In the wilderness. Or our neighborhood park. On the cement. Oops.
That looks so cool! Would it cramp your style if we stopped by Friday to visit? we're thinking of leaving here around 9 or so, but I'd call you. Otherwise we could do it Saturday on our way back. Let me know what works for you!
Sounds like a great trip... and yeah I am with you I will camp for one night.. but I would much rather stay in a condo or something just as luxurious :)
What a fun trip! Bats are freaky in and of themselves. Good job toughin' it out, Erin.
Gorgeous pics! Sounds like a fun trip! Sorry, you've all been sick. We've had the sickness around here too.
So fun. What an accomplished young man your Aidan is! ;)
A lot of those pictures remind me of the desert when I took a train from Chicago to Salt Lake. Sure looks like you had a lot of fun even though it wasn't a four star hotel.
What a cool place to go camping....love the pictures.
Gorgeous pics. Liked what your son learned. (how to pee outside and roast marshmellows...thought you were going to have a pic of him behind a bush or rock or something, lol)
Totally understand to 400 post thing. Things are hectic with the kiddos being sick and all. it takes a little to catch up.
Give it time,, you'll be back in no time.
I give you permission to click "Mark all as read" - RIGHT NOW!!! :)
Glad you had fun!
I love the innocence..."Are there really goblins there?" Too cute!
We went there last summer and it was so hot but so beautiful! I love your pictures!
That sounds like a place my mom would love to go. :)
I've heard such cool things about this place and have always wanted to go!! You would think with me having so many boys I would have gone by now. Sheesh, what's my problem? Glad your cute little guys became experts in so many areas.
That is the one place I never got to go to while I lived in Cedar City and the one place I wish I had. Thanks for sharing!
My son just broke his foot and pelvis at Goblin Valley this weekend.... hear any screams while you were down there?
Erin how fun!! Brandon loves Escalante and that area. He would always go with my uncles and hike and camp each summer. I never got to go because the kids were too little to hike as far as they did. It looks like you had so much fun!!!
hmm my family has been meaning to go there for some time.
I have never been there before. Sure looks beautiful!
Once upon a time, I was a camping kind of gal. That was a long, long time ago. Now I hit the hotel any chance I get.
Good for you, though. But I have to say that peeing outdoors is waayyyy overrated.
gorgeous pics...and I go nowhere that peeing outside is a viable option. LOL.
I love that destination, and my kids love the cliff sliding. I do not love how the cliff-sliding wears out their pants, and when that wind gets going I really do not like how cold I get. Congrats on surviving two nights of camping. (I assume that means you're all over the flu, so congrats on that, too.)
It looks so hot and dusty!
Without reading the subtitle, I could not imagine what that first photo was! It looks like a wonderful place.
That's gorgeous! I didn't even know that place existed. Another place on my list!
Gorgeous!
Hope your kids are better. Just wanted to know I am stealing your FJ1W thing on my blog today. I linked over to your site, letting EVERYONE know where they get their ideas from. The idea was mine but the FJ1W was yours so I gave credit to you!! Thanks for the idea. WE'll see how it goes...
Glad you had a good time and didn't run into any goblins.
I really want to go there and camp with my family. Someday.
I remember going to all these places when I was little with my family! You are so good to take your boys on such fun adventures!! I need to be better at that. Suck it up and go camping... ugh. :) And I LOVE that Aidan is now an expert at peeing outside! What boy doesn't love that?! Ha ha ha!
