How awful to get spammed like that! I have word verification off but have comment moderation ON and maybe that is the trick. I have never had any spamming on mine. Maybe I'm just lucky. Hope you have an awesome day!

I had to turn on WV recently, too.
One more thought I just had: Do you get your "allowance" for the entire month at once? Maybe you should divide it up so that you get paid weekly -- might eliminate some of the end of the month blahs.

The spammers stopped posting on my blog when I stopped allowing anonymous comments. It sucks for my friends that don't have any ID, but I was getting sick of the v.iagra comments :o)

Yeah, I'm trying to decide between disallowing anonymous comments or turning on WV. The spam started coming out of nowhere a month ago and it's making me nuts. Especially the spam that doesn't advertise anything. Why are you even cluttering up my blog then? Not that I like ads, either. It's just that I get why they come up. I have no idea what the other ones are doing.

Even little old me has been getting a lot of spam comments lately and has been toying with the idea of turning on the word verification. Personally I like it, especially when it sounds like it should be a real word.
I think that sometimes the word varifications are funny. Spammers, though, aren't any fun. I liked reading what other people said on your last post as well...it gave me some good ideas.
I've always had the word verification thing so no spammer problem. It may be a pain sometimes but it's WORTH it!
I don't thing the WV is that big of a deal. I know a lot of people hate it, but I much prefer it to spam.
I had a recent spell with someone who appeared to be from Korea all in Korean. At first I turned on approval after so many days since it occurred on an old post, but then got one on the most recent post. I went to whoever they said they were and complained to the Google police. I haven't had any spam since.
Yeah, the spam has sure come back with a vengeance lately. I waited a month or two before I finally gave up and turned WV back on. Darn it.
Oh well.

I had the same problem and removed anonymous posting of comments.
Spamming creates a problem in itself as if you get to many you may one day login to your blog to find that it doesn't exist anymore!
I just moderate all my comments now that way I dont have to worry about spammers posting links to Nikes, ED pills, sexy women (why are there never links to sexy men?), diet pills, sleeping pills, etc. It's a pain that comments dont auto show, but I hate word verification. :( Blogger needs a spam filter like yesterday!
My brother got a spam recipe. True, it was in dutch, but we could tell it was a recipe for something that had 14 eggs in it. Recipe spam....who knew?

I had to start moderating my old posts because of spam that was entirely in another language so I didn't know what kind of smut they were peddling.
I'm so sorry to hear that you get blog spammers too. You think people have something better to do with their day than leave crap on nice peoples blogs!
