More About Food

I made sloppy joes for dinner last night. I realized in the afternoon that I didn't have any hamburger buns, and I didn't want to have to go to the grocery store again, so I made hamburger buns from scratch (well, using my bread machine to make the dough). The buns were so good. I'm pretty sure it has ruined my family for life - as in, they will never want to eat store bought ones again. (Plus, they were so easy using my bread maker on the dough setting.)

We also carved our pumpkins last night. (Pictures on the private blog.) We ended up having four cups of pumpkin seeds, and I made this recipe. They were a huge hit. (P.S. I used my blow dryer to dry the seeds before adding the ingredients, and it totally worked.)

I also made everything cookies. These are basically chocolate chip cookies, with extras thrown in: butterscotch chips, coconut, raisins, oatmeal, and walnuts. I have been shopping around with different recipes, because I wanted to find THE recipe that I would use every single time for the rest of my life. Last time I made everything cookies, I used this recipe from Becky of Pensievity. (Although the recipe itself is on her Misplaced Americans blog.) This time, I used...well, a different one. Christian informed me (in a very kind way, of course) that he liked the last one much better. Becky, I think you've found a winner. I will be using your recipe from now on.

After making hamburger buns, pumpkin seeds, and everything cookies last night, and then not bothering to clean up after ANY of it, you can imagine what my kitchen looks like right now. I guess that means it is time to go clean it up.

But let me leave you with a little story. One of my boys yesterday morning (I won't divulge which one, in order to protect his identity) had his hand in the Cheerios box. I said, "Oh, buddy, have you washed your hands recently with soap? I don't want germs in the Cheerios." He said, "Yes, Mom, I just washed them." I said, "Well, okay then, but it's not really a good idea to put our hands in food because it can make it dirty for everyone else." He said, "But Mom, I was just putting the Cheerios back that had fallen on the floor." .....Um, thanks for cleaning up your mess (instead of leaving it on the floor). So, do I throw the box of Cheerios away, or do I just leave it for the boys to finish eating?

P.S. Sorry for all of the parentheses. I tend to go a little overboard sometimes.

I'd maybe pour out the top portion of the box and hope that the infected cheerios are gone!

A few germs won't kill them! :)

Making your own buns is a rockstar move!

And too bad you don't live closer to me. You would rock my cookie swap.

I love when my mom makes homemade buns. So delicious!

And cheerios are my favorite cereal. Whether they've been on the floor or not:)

Eeeehhhhh, leave the Cherrios. It will help build up strong immune systems.

Homemade burger buns? I'm totally impressed.

LOL! I am such a loser mom! Homemade bread and cookies? You are awesome!
LOVE the Cheerio story!

Great Cheerio story. So it sounds like you're a bit of a clean freak (meant in the nicest possible way) like me! :)

I made those cookies of Becky's too, but not with everything in them. They were good, but I have a different favorite CCC recipe. And funny you should mention this because I am just about to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that call for corn flakes, too.

And I'm thinking you linked to the pumpkin seed recipe last year? Because someone did and I made them and I liked them a lot but mine ended up SUPER salty so nobody else ate them after the first handful. I can handle salty, though, so I ate them. mmmmmm.

Yep leave the cheerios, kids get sick more often now days because everything is so disinfected and clean that they don't have the little germs to build their system up

You are Super Mom!

I would totally leave the Cheerios for them to eat. I think my lack of caring has given my kids a stellar immune system. lol.

Leave the cheerios. Give their immune system something to do for the next few days! I used to eat straight from our garden when I was little, and we fertilized with pure cow poopy, which I also walked through barefoot in the garden. I cringe to think of all the cow poop and dirt I ate along with the tomatoes, strawberries and beans, but I was never sick!

Leave the cheerios. They will be just fine! But, I wouldn't eat out of the box, if it were me :)

I'm questing for the perfect waffle recipe and I think I found it last week. Next up: the search for the best lasagna.

OK I am laughing so hard that it was easier for you to MAKE your own hamburger buns than just running to the store and buying them. YOU ROCK!

let the boys eat them. And you MADE the buns? Seriously? *bowing down*

I vote for letting the boys just eat the Cheerios...it won't kill them, I am sure (if they are like my boys) they have eaten worse then that.

And the homemade hamburger buns? I would have gone to the store or served it on regular bread - but I don't have a bread machine to help out.

LOL -- I would go ahead and keep the cereal -- but I probably wouldn't eat it myself! I have turned into a huge germophobe.

Homemade buns??! YUM.

:)

Well look at you! I tried to make rolls in my breadmaker and my children were NOT impressed. I think they'd prefer store bought!

I was so sorry to hear about your friend's passing. Hugs!

I say TOTALLY let the boys eat the rest of the box. I do naughty little things like that all the time - it's gross to me, but they'll never know. Kind of...funny? Terrible? I don't know, but who wants to waste a box of brand name cereal?

HAHAHAHA! That was the greatest story!!!

I guess the answer to the cheerios dilemma is a question: When is the last time you mopped?
Jared and I laughed over your story! That was a great one!

Never apologize for parenthesis. (They're a good thing.)
