- her purple sippy cup
- one of her shoes
- an assortment of Tupperware containers
Last Friday, I was playing with toys with her in her bedroom. She was happily enthralled with a shoe that plays music, so I sneaked out, turned on Christmas music in the living room (Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan albums, if you were wondering), and put a load of laundry in the washing machine. Then I went back in to check on Kaitlyn. She was sitting on a chair in her room, coloring her wall with red colored pencil. All over. Clearly, five minutes was too long to leave her alone.
She keeps pulling the scissors out of the drawer I keep them in. (Which is just at her level, right next to the computer.) So yesterday, I moved them to the drawer in the kitchen where I keep the kitchen scissors and the sandwich baggies (it's high enough that she can't actually see into the drawer. Also, she has never EVER opened this drawer before). Within an hour, I was sitting on the couch in the living room and she walked in, opening and closing the scissors with a triumphant WHACK. And onto the top of the fridge they go.
Do you know how many times we have had spilled milk at our house in the last four days? Six. Six times. Of course, once was a result of my own clumsiness. But each time I kept thinking, oops, it must have been an accident. Then this morning, I gave her a bowl of Kix with a teeny bit of milk (like, just enough to cover the bottom of the bowl). One minute later, I looked over at her and watched her slooowly pick up her bowl and turn it upside down. I tried to get there as quickly as I could, but it was already all down her front, all over the counter, and spilled down onto the floor. I decided right then that from now on she is getting a sippy cup of milk and a bowl of dry Kix.
She is inexplicably scared of her winter coat. If I hold it out and suggest she put it on, she runs away crying. So then, when I say, "Okay, forget about your coat. Let's put your jacket on," she happily comes over and puts her arm through the armhole. We also have a seahorse toy whose tummy lights up and he plays sweet music. (It's my nephew's favorite toy and he uses it to lull himself to sleep.) However, it makes Kaitlyn do this:
And, she could probably use a daily bath. Or sometimes, a bath after every meal. Because when she decides she is finished eating, she does this with her food:
Yes, living with a toddler is always exciting. And, when she runs to me, wraps her arms around me, gives me a giant slobbery kiss (complete with a MWAH sound) and snuggles her head into my neck, I feel more love for her than ever!

I feel like I just got out of this stage with Elaina and I am going to be right back there in a very short time with Rhianna. She is crawling and I am following her around everywhere but I know it will be so much worse when she can walk.
I never let my toddlers have milk in their bowl. It has always been dry cereal and a sippy cup. Elaina just started getting milk in her bowl less than a year ago (she is almost 3 1/2).
They do give the best hugs and kisses though....
Oh man...the messy food stage. And the inexplicable fearful stage... before you know it she will be moving on to the next stages!
What a sweet video - I absolutely love watching a baby squat down like that for so long (is that weird?)- it amazes me, and makes me feel kinds jealous at the same time. When do we lose the ability to easily do such a thing?!
Ha ha ha ha. Funny! Eli drank some liquid soap refill the other day (to be fair, it did look like a giant Capri Sun or something). It was non-toxic, and I'm pretty sure he only got down one little swallow before he decided it was gross, but still! Neither of the other boys has ever tried to eat/drink anything inappropriate! It kind of freaked me out. It's funny what some do and others don't. Cute little stinkers.
I actually like toddler age. It's the babies that get me!
BTW, anytime I see anything with the Eiffel Tower on it, I immediately think of you.
this post made me smile. I have a toddler too (and a 3-month old). I love your last paragraph. It's so true! Sometimes I feel like I'm about to explode in anger but then my son will either give me a big, cute grin or that sad puppy-eyes look and my temper goes away...
I just love your blog, but this post cracked me up.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
Wow did this post ever bring back memories of all of my kids! I kind of miss the toddler times, though. :(
We lost so much in the garbage...yikes. Who knew a mom would have to add dumpster diver to her growing collection of job descriptions?
And Bria used to cry inconsolably whenever she heard I am a Child of God. I think that she did that because she thought she'd have to go to bed, since I usually sang it at bedtime. But it got so bad that we had to take her out of Sacrament Mtg. when the entire congregation sang it. That was one traumatized little girl!
Oh man, she is so cute and full of personality! When my kids were that age I would pour their cereal with milk, let it soak for a minute, then drain out the milk into a sippy cup. The seahorse reminds me of Missy's first birthday present. It was a CUTE little monkey that played cute music and kinda walked around when you touched it. She love it the first day, then forever after she was scared to death of it.
But look at that face! Let her throw anything out that she wants to!
I think the toddler age is one of my favorite ones, even though they keep you on your toes and it is because of your last sentence that I think so!
When Addi was little we are pretty sure we lost Jeremys phone that way, and didn't figure it out until after garbage day. So we had to buy a new one. Now we automatically check the garbage for anything lost. I even found $40 cash in there last week!
