Moving Forward

In the last 5 1/2 days, we logged 38 hours driving time.  With a 19 month old.  Christian and I deserve a medal.  (Although, so does Kaitlyn, because she did pretty well most of the time.)  The good news is, we purchased a house in Iowa!  Well, we put an offer down and now we are doing all of the prerequisites before the financing goes through.  It is a beautiful home - I'll show pictures once we move there.  The only "problem" is that the family who owns the house designed it in a "country" style - aka NOT my style AT ALL.  Once we arrive, there will be much ripping off of wallpaper and much painting of walls.  And you better believe that I will be posting and asking/begging for ideas and color schemes.  (I don't have a decorating bone in my body.)

For LDS friends - I will be in a branch (instead of a ward).  Yikes!  Does this mean I will have three or more callings?  I have never been in a branch before.  What are your experiences with a branch?

Merry Christmas everyone!  I know I will; I got a house for Christmas.  Hee hee!

Dude, I was in a branch for 6 years. In the middle of the Salt Lake Valley. Our branch was weird. No YM/YW, and an extremely small Primary. But anyone with teenagers were sent to the other ward, so that's probably atypical for a branch. Other than that, it functioned pretty much the same.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

I can't wait to see pics of your house! My sister's experience in a branch: she was called to learn how to play piano so somebody would know how.

I spent a lot of time on my mission in small branches in Iowa. Of course this was 15 years ago. They were wonderful. Quirky and often filled with some very interesting characters, but wonderful. I do think active members were more busy in the branch - there were almost as many callings as a ward, but fewer people to fill them.

It sounds like an adventure!

We were in a branch when I was in 4-6th grade. It was an interesting experience. I don't know if you will necessarily have more callings. They cut out a lot of callings in our branch. Like my mom was the 8-11 year old girls teacher and activity leader. And yes, Andrea and I were both in that class at the time. I was the primary pianist my whole year as an 11 year old. It was so fun though because you knew EVERYONE in the branch. We also met in an old food bank that had no heat the first year. Then we met at the high school for another year or so and then right before they turned us back into a ward (they split another ward and added a bunch of people to make it a ward) they finally put us in a building. The funny thing is Orting has nearly the same ward boundaries now as it did as a branch but it is its own ward now. And they have their own building. So maybe one day your branch will be a ward as well.

More info then you asked for? Sorry, I started thinking about it and sort of rambled. :)

Congrats on making the offer for the house! I can't wait to see pictures. I'm also looking forward to hearing about your new callings as Ward Pianist, Ward Choir Director, and Primary President :)

What? OK, you need to email me and tell me where this beautiful house is. Is it way on the north end?

I think it's worth getting the house with the right look and lay-out even if it means ripping out those "special" country touches. I like things sleek, modern, simple. But I also don't know how to make my house what I want and would need lots of help. Good luck! I'm so excited for you!

Yay! I was actually going to text you this weekend to see if you'd found a house. (Sorry I didn't....I have been crazy busy.) Can't wait to see pictures, and I'll be happy to brainstorm some decorating ideas!

I have much admiration for you doing this. I don't know if I would have the courage to take such a big step so fast! I can't wait to see pictures and hear all about your life in Iowa!

We live in a very small branch...about 45-50 people typically come to church each week. Most active members only hold one calling. There is less to do since there are fewer people. A couple hold extra callings, but the extra callings are organist and chorister and things like that.

I am the Primary President and I have one counselor and three teachers. When I was YW President, it was just me. I did everything, but that wasn't a huge deal since I only had one YW!

I have really grown to love living in a branch. It's different, but I think it's a good different.

I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to see your house. Good luck with everything!
