On one of our first rock hounding trips in southern Utah, we came upon a hill of agate, where you could take a step and find at least ten pieces of agate underneath your feet. I found a piece that day that I immediately fell in love with, because its edges are oddly and amazingly shaped like Iowa.
I loved living in Iowa. The year we spent there was a year of growing for our family, a year filled with great food (you know how I feel about food), a great library, wonderful friends, and happy memories. That little rock reminded me of those special times.
And now, in a little way my life has come full circle - and that rock oddly plays a small part. My family and I are moving back to Iowa next month. My life is so blessed!
(Yay for surface-level pleasantries being over, for the most part! Now you can look forward to stress-filled discussions and posts filled with the bittersweet aspect of moving away from a place I love and to another place I love.)

Wow! Wahoo! That is a big change. Good luck with all your preparations!
Oh, wow! It's not like I ever see you now, but for some reason, I feel like I will never see you! :) Good luck!
Wow! That's a big change! It looks like on fb you said it will be forever! That's crazy but I'm glad it is to a place that you love!
Relief. Feels good to talk about it! I wish I were there to help you pack up and watch your kids. Good luck with the process.
I am very excited for you guys!
Congratulations! Good luck with the move. It's never fun, but it's an adventure none the less, and the possibilities are limitless. With all our moves it's been good for us to de-clutter, deciding what is really important enough to go with us, and remembering that family is hands-down at the top of the list --that no matter what happens to us or where we go, we'll always be together and that helps us grow closer. Plus, there's the opportunity for a fresh start in so many aspects of our lives. So excited for you!
Love the Iowa rock. Southern Utah has some great rocks. Ever been to Topaz Mountain? You should go, it's your/our birthstone.
I am so excited you!!!
Again, WOO HOOOO! Lucky ducks.
You can't understand the magic of Ames unless you've lived there. The winters are horribly cold and nasty, but...it's...magic. Plus, it's on a grid (don't get me started on these idiotic east coast roads).
Good luck, Friend!
I know how much you loved it there so if you have to move I'm glad that you are moving somewhere that you love. :) Good luck!!
Wow Erin! Great news!! Very happy for you and your family. :)
I didn't know you were a rock hound! Madelyn and I like rocks, too.
She said she is going to be very sad when Aidan moves and that it's not fair that all her friends move away. I'm sure Gabe is feeling the same about Ethan leaving. We'll miss you!!
You were only here for a year?!! Wow. You and your family made a huge (wonderful) impact in a short time. Our family is so excited that you are coming back for good. (Julia ran upstairs yesterday, exclaiming, "The Wimmers are moving back to Ames!". )
That is big news and big changes. I am happy for you. I'm glad things are going well for you. Be safe in your travels.
We had a similar experience to your first Iowa experience (except substitute 'Oregon' for 'Iowa'). I am firmly planted back here at home now. I totally admire people who can pack up lock, stock and barrel and move to a new adventure in a new place. It will be so fun to see what the new adventure involves!
That's a change, but really you are going back "home." Blessings to your family and I hope you have an awesome Christmas!
Change is good and especially when you like where you are going! feel free to commiserate about the crappy part too. the actual moving is the worst!!
Well, I'm sorry we didn't get to see each other on our last trip up there! But I'm glad you get to go somewhere you love. And I'm glad for blogs, so I can still learn from you. You're amazing!
My husband and I live in a very small town in ID, so when he was accepted to grad school in MD we decided not to tell ANYONE because we know how word gets around in small towns...somedays I felt like I was suffocating under the secret. I hated the surface-level pleasantries...What a great thing for your family. I hope the settling in process treats you well! What a fun blog!
