Internet, Finally

After 13 days without internet, I'm finally back online!  I have a bajillion things I want to say; unfortunately, I have so many things to do online (pay bills) that I can't spend much time in blog world.  Yet.  I will say that we safely arrived in our small town in Iowa (population: 1300).  I have much to say about this, and I will in future blog posts.  The drive was long.  On the second leg of the trip, Kaitlyn started screaming and throwing fits in her car seat after 15 minutes - and that was the day I needed to drive 10 hours.  I really thought I was going to lose it.  I couldn't decide where I would rather be, by myself with the three children, or driving the moving truck with a trailer pulling our other vehicle behind it.  (The moving truck couldn't go faster than 65 mph, and it swayed every time a semi-truck passed it, which if you have ever driven I-80 you know this happens frequently.)  My 10 hour drive took Christian 13 hours in the truck.  Blech.

Christian arrived at our new home at noon on a Saturday, and immediately had a few neighbors come over to introduce themselves (like, as he was stepping out of the moving truck).  Then they offered to help him unpack.  Within minutes, THIRTEEN people were here helping Christian unpack the truck.  THIRTEEN!  It was unpacked in less than an hour, and the kids and I hadn't even arrived yet!  We were invited to dinner that night (at the branch president's house, and his wife made this for dinner - yum YUM).  Nearly all of our neighbors have come over with treats and introduced themselves (to me, specifically, since they had already met Christian while unloading the truck).  I think I'm gonna like it here!

It has taken a week and a half of non-stop work, but we almost have the house fully unpacked.  It takes a lot of work to unpack an entire house!  It's probably good I didn't have internet.  Unfortunately, we didn't have tv either (the TiVo needed internet to authenticate our service, so we couldn't set it up).  But the kids have started school, and things are starting to become "normal," and I will catch you up more later!

(This feels like a journal entry to me.  I suppose it is, since so much has happened in our lives over the last two weeks.  If you don't like reading other people's journals, sorry that I didn't warn you beforehand.)

Wow, that is amazing! We had no one even stop by to say hello when we moved in. And no one left their Wifi unlocked. Jerks.

It's great to see you online! I'd been crossing my fingers for a blog entry, since I knew that internet was supposed to be arriving early this week. I'm so glad that you've had a warm welcome and that you're getting settled in. I'm looking forward to hearing more about life in Iowa soon.

Congrats on surviving the move! That is quite impressive that so many people were there to help. Were they from your new branch or just friendly neighbors? We have lived in our house for over 3 1/2 years and still barely know any of our neighbors. haha. Welcome back to the world of technology and I can't wait to hear about your new adventures.

Yea! I've been excited to hear the scoop. That's how arriving in Iowa felt to us (though we only did it the once). We didn't have 13 people, but we felt an immediate connection to the place and the people. I haven't felt that in any other move. The others have been "it's OK - we'll get used to it" kind of moves, but Iowa was special.
You must be in the right place at the right time.
I'm totally impressed that you're almost unpacked already. I'm super organized about packing up, but I'm a lot less so about unpacking. I get the essentials out quick, then it takes awhile for things like pictures and storage/closet stuff to make it out.

I'll be looking forward to more updates! But take your time - you certainly have a full plate.

Glad you arrived safely! I think I'd rather the 3 extra hours of driving than the hard-ness of driving that long with an unhappy kid! Seriously...the sanity just isn't there after even a couple hours of that!
