Beauty

Over the weekend, I went outside to my new-to-me yard and started weeding and cleaning out the dirt beds.  I have never done this before, and I feel very inept thanks to my black thumb (i.e. my ability to kill plants without really trying).  I was pulling old leaves and sticks away from the beds, and I realized that underneath this matted, old layer there were brand new shoots of plants.  As I carefully filtered out the old stuff, I continued to discover healthy, new green shoots.  I have no idea what these shoots will become, but I look forward to watching them grow throughout the spring and summer.

Watching our yard come into bloom over the last couple of weeks has been a breath of fresh air.  The lawn is so green.  One tree has beautiful white blossoms.  Others are growing greenery.  I also noticed we have three times as many raspberry plants as I originally thought.

And the birds!  The birds here are amazing!  The owners of this house obviously did things to encourage birds to stop by - numerous bird houses, and there was a bird bath in the corner of the yard.  We have seen chickadees, doves, and blue jays in our yard. We purchased bird seed, and we have our bird identifying book and our binoculars close by.

As I marvel at the beauty of where we live, I feel reverence for God's creations.  And I feel thrilled that my children will be raised in this beautiful place.

Anyone want to come eat raspberries with us in a few months?

Garden raspberries are my FAVORITE! I'm dying to have a little garden of my own. Hopefully someday in the not-so-far future.

It sounds lovely there. I'm glad you feel such peace in your home and your move and all of that.

I would love to! We just had this flowering plant bloom up out of nowhere. It's been cool seeing what is going to spring up.

Mmmmm....raspberries. Isn't it so great to be able to look around everywhere we go and see God's hand? I love it. My kids think that I am funny because everywhere we go I am always bringing up what our Heavenly Father must have thinking when he made such a beautiful world. WOW! Glad that you are liking your new home.

You're just like Mary Lennox!!

"She did not know anything about gardening, but the grass seemed so thick in some of the places where the green points were pushing their way through that she thought they did not seem to have room enough to grow. She searched about until she found a rather sharp piece of wood and knelt down and dug and weeded out the weeds and grass until she made nice little clear places around them.

"Now they look as if they could breathe," she said, after she had finished with the first ones. "I am going to do ever so many more. I'll do all I can see. If I haven't time today I can come tomorrow."
