LeapFrog is a genius!

My friend Staci lent me these DVDs that she loves because they have taught her children how to read. They are made by LeapFrog, and have cute cartoons of Tad and Leap and Lily playing around in a letter and word factory. I popped one in (Letter Factory), and my kids were glued to the tv, both of them, which is hard to do with a 2 year old and 4 year old, because they usually aren't interested in the same types of shows. By the end, Aidan was saying the phonics of the letters and they were both singing the songs in the show. So I put in the Talking Words Factory, and again they were both glued, and Ethan was totally getting all of it. So then the next day I put on the Code Word Caper video, which teaches about silent e (how "hid" becomes "hide), and blends (how "hop" becomes "shop"), and now Ethan walks around catching silent e's everywhere he looks: on the Malt-o-Meal bag, "Look Mom! It says 50% more! It has a silent e!" Then, Christian was sitting with Aidan on the floor in front of the refrigerator where we have the LeapFrog Word Whammer (a Christmas present last year, that Aidan usually just shoves the letters under the fridge) and was having Aidan put letters in the 3 spots. He was randomly putting letters in, when Christian said, "Aidan, every word has a vowel, and the vowel goes in the middle spot." Aidan said, "Oh...how about I" and he picked up an "i" and put it in the middle spot. He's 2! So by now I'm completely sold on these DVDs. So I got online this morning at http://www.leapfrog.com/, and researched how much the DVDs would cost. Of course, they are 15 bucks a pop, but right now the VHS videos are on sale for $4.99 each! For 5 bucks, who cares about the DVD player! I have a VCR that works! (Well, most of the time anyway.) I was so excited I even bought the Math one that they offer. Great Christmas presents. So now you can all have reading geniuses at your house!

I absolutely love, adore and cherish these videos. They have helped Noah so much with his speech and sounds. I actually enjoy watching them with him too. What a great discovery.

I have heard of them, but have not looked into them yet. Kaitlyn watches plenty on TV right now with baby einstein. When she is older, I will look into them - they sound GREAT!

I love the videos too. Ryan learned all the letter sounds and is starting to put letters together because of them.

Wow! Wish I had access to such great resources right now. I'm sure there was a little more than just the videos at work for those super reading skills though--A+ for the two parents too!

I always thought about buying some kind of learning videos. It's good to know which ones work! I'm totally getting these for my kids now!

Wow, thanks for the good idea. I'll have to check that out. Calvin was learning to read a little before he was 2yrs, but then he got disinterested for awhile. I'll have to check into Leap Frog and get him going again.
Also, a fun website is starfall.com Calvin really likes playing the reading games.
