I Hate Wind Chill

I noticed a couple of days ago that some people were putting up a temporary fence in the middle of the field across from our building. (If you look hard enough at this picture, you can see it.) I wondered what they were doing. As I have been driving around town, I have noticed that all of the corn and soybean fields now have temporary fences near the perimeter. I have figured out what these fences must be for: so that the snow drifts that are inevitable because of the blowing wind will be partially blocked by the fences. And every day, when I check the weather online, there is at least a 10, and sometimes 20, degree difference between the actual temperature and the "feels like" temperature because of windchill. This morning when I checked the temperature was 17 and "feels like" -3. We aren't going to be able to go outside for the next four months because of this weather. P.S. Tomorrow they are saying we are going to have freezing rain. I don't know if I have ever experienced freezing rain before, but I'm really NOT looking forward to it. People don't drive in it, do they?

Then, a couple of days ago, the neighbor who lives below me came up and asked me to quiet my children because whatever they were doing was too noisy on her ceiling and she had a headache and was trying to work (she works from home, so she is never gone.)

My kids were running back and forth, from the kitchen to the living room. They weren't bouncing balls, they weren't hammering the floor, they weren't playing a drumset. They weren't even screaming. They were just running.

It is going to be a long winter.

I think that is the one blessing of living on the bottom floor, your kids can make as much noise as they want and nobody cares. Your neighbor will have to get used to kids. You can't keep them from playing.

Oh Erin, I'm so sorry! You guys weren't bad EVER when we lived under you!!! Tell her I said so, I know (although you only had one, but please, does she not have children??? Or is she one of those parents that 'forget').

WOW!!! I am so sorry you have a neighbor who doesn't like the pitter patter of sweet little feet running around. I hope it was just the headache talking. That is part of the joy of living above or below someone. Plan a trip to visit us - bring your shorts and flip flops!!

Erin, my goodness you are too good at this blogging and commenting thing! I am impressed! Whenever I'm on, I check yours out and can always count on being entertained. I was feelin sorry for us not being able to play outside this past week. But I guess I'll stop since it's way not EVEN close to 17! Yuck. Good luck with your grumpy neighbor. Maybe your kids could deliver her some cookies and she'll see how cute they are. Chocolate cures EVERYTHING, right?

The freezing rain was a new experoence for us too. It covers EVERYTHING in a thin sheet of ice. Watch out, last year we had a big ice storm in SD and I fell and hurt muyself pretty bad. Oh, and the wind get worse...unfortunately.You learn to stock up on essentials for you and the kids when the weather is nice enough to go out.

good luck with the neighbor and the winter. She will have to understand that your kids are going to be kids and they can bounce all they want their are no rules huh? I think that you should tell her that you will ahve quiet times, and for the most part that you will do what you can but kids are kids righT?
