Skyfest

I think I've figured this balloon thing out, Marge. It can go up and down, but not side to side or back in time. ~Homer Simpson

Our town has things going on every weekend during the summer, I swear. The problem is that I never seem to hear about them until after the weekend is over. Luckily, I found out that they were holding Skyfest this last weekend. There were 18 hot air balloons on a huge field that they blew up (is that the word for a hot air balloon?) right in front of you.

Here is what is looks like just unrolled off of the truck.
In various stages of puffiness.
Taking off!
The boys standing in front of their favorite one, the smiley face. This town is so trusting, they let people walk around and even touch the balloons as they filled with air.
The cool picture of the day, taken by Christian, of course. (I really need to take a class or something.)
At noon, they had a remote controlled airplane fly high in the sky and drop candy for the children gathered to catch it.
The problem was that they had about 100 pieces of candy for about 300 kids. Oops.

So we bought tickets for the boys to go on the blow up obstacle course instead.

Welcome to Festival City where there is always some sort of Festival/Fest happening. Not just in the summer. :)

We woke up late for the SkyFest, but my husband and the kids managed to chase some of the balloons down to watch them land and had fun doing that after I left for work.

I'm assuming you have to get up before the sunlight to watch this, right? Yeah, I'll just look at your delightful pictures, and pretend I'm there. :)

When I lived in Boise, ID we used to go watch the balloons fill up almost every weekend in the early summer. LOVED IT! And then we'd pack a picinic and go to a park and watch the balloons flying around.

P.S. Thank you for the very sweet things you said on my blog today. You made me smile.

I want to go in one someday. I don't know why, they've always seemed so cool to me! Maybe it was watching "Chipmunk Adventure" as a kid. I love to watch the hot air balloons on the 4th of July up here.
