I did something at the grocery store last week that I have never done before. Never ever, in my 11 years of marriage, in my 5 1/2 years of having kids, and in my nearly 32 years of life.
I purchased Top Ramen noodles.
I've just never had the urge to purchase those little curly-que noodles with their own little sodium-filled chicken-flavored packet before. But then, as I was shopping the case lot sale at Lin's, I walked by a pallet of these little packets, and it was only $3.00 for an entire case of 24. I thought, "Heck, food storage. Why not?" I came home and put some in my 72 hour kit, and forgot about them.
Then, Sunday between conference sessions, I was trying to figure out what to make for lunch. I opened the pantry and voilà, the Top Ramen was calling my name. I pulled one out and had to read the directions since I didn't know how much water to add. I let them boil for three minutes and gave each boy a bowlful. Aidan pulled out a noodle, a 24 inch long curly noodle, and started boinging it to the floor. I quickly realized I had better cut these noodles if I didn't want a huge mess on my hands.
Each boy half-heartedly took one bite, asked for more Club crackers and mandarin oranges, ate them all up (the crackers and oranges), and said they were finished.
Moral of the story: Even if three bucks for a case is a good deal, if your kids won't eat it, maybe it's not such a good deal after all. Then again, I didn't think they were too bad. Am I crazy?

I bought these when I was pregnant with Sierra. Then I threw them up. Haven't been able to eat them since. Though I did buy them in the caselot sale last week, hopefully my kids will eat them, because holy cow, are they cheap!
I used to love top ramen. In college I would drain off all the water and put butter and the seasoning packet in. It was so good.
I don't mind Top Ramen. My kids--LOVE IT!! It is quick, easy and cheap who could ask for more?
Sage loves Ramen. I don't mind it either, occasionally. I add vegetables while it's cooking to make it healthier. I always break the noodles before cooking so that they aren't too long to eat.
I think ramen is disgusting, but my family loves it. blech.
I remember when they used to be 10 for 1.00, and it was not THAT long ago.
my kids are torn...Cooper loves them, Parker hates them, Anabelle will eat them. We like to add peas and a scrambled egg, it tasted like a chinese noodle dish this way!
I used to eat it all the time! Now it's like, maybe twice a year. Jake has it quite a bit. He adds egg to his. I think he just cracks the egg open into the boiling water and lets it cook on top of the noodles.
Hubby hates them cause he said he ate them all the time on his mission and won't eat them now. Caleb loves these with broccoli. (hey and they are milk free so that is one more thing he can eat) I don't think they are too bad either.
these were a staple when i was growing up.
haven't had them in a while though....maybe tonight. all of a sudden i have a craving for them.
Rick lives off of ramen at work. It is cheap and he can cook it up in the microwave really quick. I am not a huge fan but I will eat it every year or so. Keira loves it, but then she loves anything with noodles.
I cannot eat them, because I survived on them in college. However, Chloe would eat them for every. single. meal. if only I would let her. I bought several cases when Smith's had their case lot sale last month. Just for Chloe. Sophie likes them, too. Bria's not a fan.
It was great to meet you, and thanks again for all the scrapbook stuff!
Ahhh, top ramen. My husband and I ate too much of it in college and now can't stand to even look at it any more. But it sure is cheap!
Wow, you must be wealthy! I can't believe you've never purchased them before. They are delicious.
My kids eat them every morning for breakfast. I break them up first while they're still in the package then boil them and the kids eat them with a spoon.
I love Ramen! My kids do too! Guess I'm set for a disaster. We could live off it.. ha ha :)
That is funny!! they will eat them if they have nothing else in that time of need. So just keep it as food storage!

You mock the thing that pulled me thru my single years. I would eat it by the case after cheap case.. Love it, they have a healthier version as well that is just as divine. When living alone I even at the raw, tell me that isn't the height of all laziness... I"M ASHAMED..
Ashamed but beautiful and wonderful so it is okay.. :)
Erin! You definitely crack me up! I have never met ANYONE who hadn't eaten ramen noodles before! And you made that statement almost like a claim to fame you were proud of ;) I think you were missing out all these years. They really are delish, even if they are totally unhealthy! Everyone already told you the tricks...break the noodles in half before cooking, drain the water, add half the seasonings, and sometimes add veggies! I can't believe your KIDS didn't like them! Must be because you didn't eat them while the kids were in the womb...have I told you that bit about how your kids apparently like things you ate while pregnant? In that case, I better get eating some ramen, but I got in trouble from the doc for eating too much salt before...only because I ate a whole bag of potato chips by myself...but I swear I eat way more sugar than I do salt! ;)
They are still good cheap food storage, and if other kids come over and get hungry they are good for that. Ryan loves ramen and I think it's gross. i hate all the sodium in it too. But I keep some around for other kids. You can also use it in chicken salad without the seasoning
I think they're tasty, tasty little noodles, but I never buy them either. I just can't do that to my kids who think of Mac n Cheese as a restaurant treat. Funny how differently I feed them from how I was fed as a kid. Anyway, they actually would be good for food storage. I never thought of it that way!
Ramon, hurray, hurray! My kids love 'em--I was pretty burned out after college...
So glad you liked the TP Bowl over at my place--your sister did a whole skein of yarn?!? That makes 8 of 8 look like an amateur! --not that I'm going to share this idea with him, of course....;o)
Blessings!
I am so impressed that this is your first Ramen experience! I don't cook them so much anymore, it was sort of a staple around Nathan's house growing up, so he doesn't appreciate the smell so much!
Erin, you aren't crazy. Brandon and I both like Ramen. Now we don't eat them all the time but occasionally for a late night snack on a cold cold day we whip them out. We always spice them up with a little extra seasonings such as cajun or red pepper or chili powder. we like them spicy.

I can't buy them or I eat them. Good for you for raising kids with a sense of taste!
If it wasn't for Ramen noodles I would be dead. They kept me alive when I first moved to Utah.
