On the Fourth Day of Christmas I Posted on My Blog

FOUR PERFECT STOCKINGS
My grandma knit Christian's and my stockings. (Okay, that was possibly the most poorly written sentence in the English language. Is knit the past tense of knit? Or is it knitted? And do I say "me and Christian's stockings", or "Christian's and my", or what? I didn't think my English was all that bad.) Anyway, my sweet grandma made them for us years and years ago. She died five years ago, and I miss her. So when my children were born, we had a couple of 101 Dalmation stockings we used for them. I wanted my boys' stockings to match ours, but I didn't know anyone who knit. Enter my brilliant sister Brooke. (Well, she is brilliant, but in this case it was more luck.) She found a woman in western Wyoming who had the patterns for these stockings and was willing to knit them for us (my children and Brooke's children) for only $15.00 each. Score! I love them! These are among my most cherished possessions. And yes, I realize they are on the floor in this picture. Just because they are my cherished possessions doesn't mean I am too lazy to put them on the wall. (No mantle, no staircase) Plus, why poke holes in my wall if I don't have to?

Those are perfect stockings! Even if your opening sentence ISN'T perfect. I'm not saying it isn't because really, I have no idea. That's just the kind of sentence I don't think I could get right either.

I was going to do this today, too, but then remembered that you were doing this, so I'm going to add two ugly ones and use it for six. I was going to add one ugly one and use it for five, but then I thought that people may think that I'm making some kind of announcement or something, and I'm definitely not! I don't have a mantle either, and I don't want to poke holes in our walls, so ours are still in storage, and probably will be until Christmas Eve. Such a shame.

What a TREASURE! My most treasured items are items from the heart and these stockings definitely are made and given to you from the heart.

I miss my grandma too.

How fun. We don't have our stocking up either. My boys like to hang them low on the wall, then my daughter pulls them all down. Maybe next year.

I looked and looked for stockings that I could use that i loved enough to hang next to mine and Wade's treasured stockings, but just couldn't do it...thank goodness Brooke found that lady!

LOVE them!! How nice that you have them from your Grandma!! My Grandma made Raggedy-Ann dolls and 5 years ago for Christmas my brother's little girl got one but she said that H was too little (she was only 3 months old) and then she passed away in June so H never got one. I am still VERY sad about this!!

what a treasure to have from your grandmother and how lucky to have been able to get some "matching" ones from your angel in wyoming!

Those are actual stockings. Perfect! What a sweet Grandma to have done that for you. They are adorable. Thank goodness for Wyoming women :)

Umm, totally off the subject. I had no idea Brooke was your sister. Where have I been?

PS, my aunt has knitted all our stockings! I love them!

Those are some awesome stockings. What great tradition and future heirlooms.

Our normal "packed away" stockings are ones that I made for each kid as they were born. I miss those. But I wouldn't post them, because of the name thing, so I guess it's just as well I had to do new ones this year.

Those are wonderful! I'm glad that your sister was able to find someone who made your kids' stockings to match yours and your husbands. (does that sentence make you feel better about your first one?)

Beautiful stockings. I love the homemade kind.

Love these stocking! Especially b/c there is a special meaning behind them made by your grandmother no matter how you put it. - total run-on sentence there!

What a treasure from your Grandmother. I love them.

I am confused though. None say Frank?

Those are wonderful stockings, and what luck you could find someone to make some for the boys!

And, honestly, I have no idea if it's knit or knitted.

That is amazing! How do you actually knit letters into something? I would love to know how to do this. I hope to learn knitting/crocheting someday.

Hey, that sentence actually is correct! It can be knit, or knitted. Either way. I looked it up. Because I do that kind of thing.

I luuuuuv the stockings, how completely cool that you were able to get them made for the kids!

I love our stockings too. I've found someone here in my town that will make them too. It's such a neat thing that all of us cousins have stockings made for us by Grandma. I sure miss her.

The stockings are great and what a find to get new ones made to look like yours!

Uh, well, might I just say at this particular juncture that 29 comments is almost too many for me to want to add anything (cuz you might not notice little ol' me) but I do want to say how darling those are and how wonderful that you got your problem fixed! And if it were me and I lived in the distant past when correct English was super important, I would have said, "My grandmother knit stockings for me and my husband", but nobody cares that much anymore. Unless you are making Miss D talk and then things can get kind of dicey.

How wonderful! I knit and would love to do this someday! Kudos to Grandma. They're beautiful.

Have you tried the little 3M hooks to hang them on the wall? They are great. I actually have a sign with little pegs on it that I made for our stockings. I also didn't want to put holes in the walls so I used the 3M things and walla! At the end of the season I take them off the wall and there are no holes! Very cute stockings BTW.
