Just Between You and Me

I'm going to tell you something, but you have to keep it a secret, okay? Shhhh...

My husband doesn't care about sports.

And you have no idea how happy this makes me!

He didn't even know that the Superbowl is this weekend until Tuesday. He didn't know who was playing either (neither did I until I read Our Best Bites yesterday and voted on their poll). When his work friend told him the game is between Pittsburg and Arizona (I think; heck, I don't know or care either), he did know enough to say, "Arizona? How long has it been since they were in the Superbowl?" So he does know just a little bit. He just doesn't care.

I know this is blasphemous for some people. Please don't hate us. We probably will have the game turned on at our house, but really just for the commercials and half time show (who is doing the half time show?). But hey, I'm not a football widow. Or a basketball widow. Or a baseball widow, or any other kind of sport widow. And I am very happy about this.

P.S. No husbands were harmed in the making of this post (aka he knows I'm spilling this little secret and he's okay with it).

Lucky you. We, unfortunately like every sport made to man in our house. Even those not considered a sport, but still. . .

Cam really isn't into them either, it is AWESOME!

Stephanie said...

I don't have to worry about being a sports widow while I'm a law school widow, but one more year...
And actually, I really like sports and it's a fun thing to watch and do together. It's been years and I miss it.

I'm pretty lucky that way too. But you know we will have the Superbowl on this Sunday (being AZ natives). And the last time the Cardinals even made it past the first (of 4, I think) rounds to get to the Superbowl was like in the 40's. At least that's what DH told me (if I was listening correctly). Somebody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

My husband is a sports fanatic. Seriously-he likes every sport SO much, that he hasn't managed to find me yet, so we can date and fall in love and he can ask me to marry him. It's really putting a strain on our relationship.

Dawn Parsons Smith said...

My husband who NEVER watches football comes home last night all pumped up and saying,"we are having a Superbowl party Sunday,so you better get to gettin.." He tried using his man voice, but I still snorted and cackled at him. "Why are we having a party? All we do is watch the dumb commercials anyway. You want some nachos while you do your commercial play by play?" LOL! What a goofball! He only wants to watch it because we live in AZ!

Annette Lyon said...

Mine doesn't either! It has brought me much joy over the years.

Kristen said...

That's great. Mr. C and I only care about local college sports (basketball and football)
Some of our friends talk about the professional games and we are like...who/
LOL...I won't tell :-)

Britt said...

No sports at our house either! It's nice.

Alyson | New England Living said...

I'm lucky too! Well, my husband likes sports enough to watch sportscenter once in awhile or catch a game here or there. But he can take it or leave it. I LOVE that!

We are lucky ladies!

Kristina P. said...

Oh, Barb. Hahaha!

My husband is like Alyson's. He can take it or leave it. We'll probably be driving back from St. George during the Super Bowl.

Kallie said...

i told ry that the other day (that there are actually some husbands who don't care in the least bit (thinking of Christian) and i think he thought i was making it up -- because HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? so no, i don't hate you, i'm just envious -- that's WAY different.

Heidi said...

I agree! That's wonderful! My husband loves sports but he was so addicted, he stopped watching years ago. We are both much happier that way.

Me (aka Danielle) said...

Lucky Lucky You! My husband isn't crazed, and doesn't re-arrange our lives our football etc. But man..I sure could go for a little less sports center and such!

lynsie said...

Life is wonderful when your hubby could care less about professional sports hu? The only "widow" I am is a firefighter widow, so I thank my lucky stars that my hubby would rather cuddle up and watch house with me than ANY silly game.

Kayla said...

Jake is a sports fanatic, especially football. I like sports some, but think it's boring to watch on TV. I usually do watch the superbowl though. I think of it as a celebration that the season is finally over!! And Arizona has never been to the Superbowl. If I have to "root" for a team on Sunday, I'm rooting for them just since they've never been.

Jules AF said...

Here I'm thinking, there's a professional football team in Arizona?? Really?

Suzie said...

My Hubby tapes it at night and watches it when i go to bed which I love!

My husband isn't into sports AT ALL. I would love to have season tickets to Utah Football and to a few
of the basketball games. But only Utah.

The Arizona Cardinals last went to a Superbowl 60 years ago. We have watched all the playoff games and have had fun just going nuts over them winning:) Of course, I live in Mesa, Arizona so I better root for the hometeam:) Go Cards!! Sorry - we love sports here.

tammy said...

I'm just happy it's another excuse to sit on my butt and eat. I may or may not be reading my book or blogging during most of it.

Lara Neves said...

I can hardly believe AZ is going to the Superbowl. During the 3 years we lived in Mesa I don't think they won a single game. I'm serious. :)

I always worried about marrying a musician, because I wanted my husband to be well rounded. I come from a sports fanatic family (Dad played BYU football, two brothers played collegiately, and teh onethat didn't go to college would have....) and well, I love sports, too. (Watching, not playing!)

Joel actually loves sports. Plays basketball every week. Knows everything about every sport. Creams me in Trivial Pursuit on that category. And I love it.

But I am happy that you found a husband that suits your non sports needs.

I think you just gave me a fun topic to blog about.

BigDaddy likes sports, but he's not a fanatic. It actually balances out really well for us, because I'm a solitary creature at heart and the sports time allows me to have alone time without feeling guilty =)

Cajoh said...

I think the only thing my wife and I like about the Superbowl is the Ads. The other parts of the game we wind up switching over to Animal Planet and watching the Puppy Bowl.

Christie // lemon squeezy home said...

Dilloon really only watches the Superbowl, that's all. I LOVE it! He loves sports but would rather go play than watch! What a blessing!

Jessica said...

We are not so into sports at our house either- and it's great! We watch about 2 football games a year. The BYU/Utah game and the Superbowl, cause you have to. But really, we don't follow anything else. It really is divine!

If yours doesn't do sports, what does he go for? Mine is alla business. I can tell you all about new, hot local businesses, how much debt was incured to start them, and whether they are likely to succeed. To each their own I guess.

Desta said...

James isn't a sports guy either. He likes baseball - playing it, anyway. And he used to follow the Kings in basketball - when he lived with a houseful of sports maniacs. Actually, I used to be REALLY into sports - I'd watch the college bowl games, do my brackets for March Madness, pay pretty close attention to football and watch basketball whenever possible. Then I married James and he de-sportsitized me. Oh well, I don't really miss it. That much. My reaction to Arizona in the Superbowl was the same as Christian's, though. I thought the tv was kidding.

Shauna said...

I wish I could say the same! My hubby and all of my boys love sports so it gets really loud here at my house :) ♥ Hugs!

rachel said...

I'm so jealous right now...

Christine said...

Yeah, I think I actually like sports more than my husband. I can watch 2-3 minutes of a basketball game on TV, and I loved going to football games in high school. Him, not so much.
He will watch gymnastics with me though! :)

Sarah Mickalson said...

I'm the sports fan in our house and Paul hates it come fall when every weekend all I want to do is watch college football. Sometimes i wish I would have married a sportsfan....sure would make life easier

Diane said...

My husband doesn't follow sports either, but he is a Scifi channel dork, so I end up listening to a lot of Stargate Whatever shows.

{{leans in to whisper}}

Neither does mine... and I'm glad.

I just changed Lynette's favicon and was wondering if you could see it.

it should be a pineapple

I can't see mine at home either but glad you can.
Thanks again for showing me how to do this even though I can see it. Maybe one day :-)

Wanna know a secret? I had to do a google search just to write that poll! haha. Shhh...dont' tell ;)

queenbee4 said...

we are the same.... we might keep track of the game this wekend simply because we used to live in AZ...

Lorie said...

My husband is in between. He loves sports, but he doesn't really care about teams. He likes individual players. And he is just as happy reading the sports page as watching it on TV. So we will watch the Superbowl, and have a little party to keep the rest of us happy, but it isn't an every Sunday thing!

Jan said...

My husband isn't that crazy about it either. It's okay. It saves money.

Laura said...

Lucky you! To not be a widow, I mean. My days of being a hunter's widow will end on January 31st. I could not be any happier!

Jilly Bean said...

I'm with you on this! I'm soooo glad that Aaron isn't into sports. Lucky us!

then we will def have to get together for pizza nght. Both my hbby and I were really into sports in HS and college, but now we just dont have time. I'll pass along that another DH isn't into this super bowl thing and he'll feel less lonely. LOL

Kimberly Vanderhorst said...

He and my Neil are kindred spirits in this respect. Neil's idea of sport is playing with his kids. =)

Anne-Marie said...

My Hub loves sports, but always gives me the remote if it's a pull between Idol or something.

(I'm sure many women are envious of you)

Kate said...

My husband used to love sports before we were married, he still does but just doesn't watch very much. We celebrate the super bowl because it gives a night to have a party and treats with the kids, not much for the football.

Is fishing a sport?

mCat said...

If both of you rae okay with it, then more power to you. Me and Splenda Daddy actually bond over sports. Sad.... : )

Cynthia said...

I'm just as lucky as you are! My hubs couldn't care less about sports too. The only Superbowl we'll be watching this weekend is the 'Super BOWL' on the DIY channel (the bathroom rennovations show is on all day and we have recently started constructing the basement bathroom so we gotta learn!)

My dh is NFL sized though. Hubba Hubba! No wussy little girly men for me thank you very much. I actually am more knowledgable about football than he is. LOL!

My Diary said...

Hey twinners,
You probably all ready guessed this but my husband does not care about sports either at all. He does not know who is playing or even when the super bowl is. Yeah we match once again.

You are a lucky woman. What is not to love about a man who is willing to take a pass on sports events?

Besides, it really is all about Bruce Springsteen at half-time.

PS: Don't be impressed by my Bruce S reference. I googled it specifically for this comment. :)

Mine either! Except baseball. He does heart baseball but only one team so it doesn't steal his attention too much.

You're hilarious.

Thank you so much for linking to my Tuesday post. Thank you.

My Hubster and I are southern which basically translate into an undieing passion for College Football (ROLL TIDE! - our Alma Mater). But, he is not obsessive about it and understands the quality of family time.

But his obsession with the Stock Market is a totally different story. I'd much rather be subjected to endless hours of sports than streaming quotes. Sigh...

On the flip side, you have no idea how much blogging, reading magazines, catching up on my favorite novels, etc, that I get done while sports is on, and he thinks we are BONDING because I sit by him on the couch while we do our own thing.

It's a match made in heaven

Amanda said...

My husband does not care much either. He says he'd rather play than watch, and he really doesn't have the lungs to play sports because of his CF. He can shoot hoops and do things that aren't that intense. But... its great not to be a sports widow. If only I could not be a video game widow....

My Diary said...

I went to heathers blog last night when I saw the link on the top of your blog. From there I went to Tuesdays mom's blog and found out that Tuesday had passed away on that Very day. Yesterday. I went on to read the entire blog, crying and with my heart breaking until the middle of the night. It took my breath away and am so happy that I followed that link and my heart was touched so much. Thanks

susette said...

i couldn't tell you who was playing tomorrow in the superbowl, but it will be on.

Lee said...

My mom used to be a football widow.
I don't get sports at all really. Don't excite me.

Laura Marchant said...

My hubs doesn't really watch sports either. I love it! My BIL is a freak about sports and it drives my sister nuts.

Mary said...

My husband isn't overwhelmingly obsessed with sports...but we both love to watch football, tennis, and The Tour de France. I guess he's lucky I'm such a tomboy!

nikkicrumpet said...

I don't have to worry about my hubby either....because I'm the one watching the sports...and he sits beside me and we cheer TOGETHER! I am a HUGE sports fan. I lived in Utah my whole life and was a Utah Jazz fan from the day they came to Utah. When Steve asked me to marry him and move to New England I said on ONE condition. You buy a satellite and buy me the Basketball package and baseball package so I will never miss a Jazz game or a Dodger game. He smiled and said he was the luckiest man on the planet! All the guys he works with are jealous that his wife is watching the game even if he isn't lol. I guess it's good that either you both don't like them..or you both do! Oh and he loves me even more because I HATE to shop hehe

Barbaloot said...

Ah! I just went to the favicon site and just reading it gave me a headache. I will have to overcome my fear sometime....just not at 11pm.

tiburon said...

Mine doesn't either...

Strawberry Shortcake said...

Gosh, I sometimes wish that was the case with my husband. I enjoy the football, but the rest of it, unless it is live, puts me to sleep and drives me nuts. Especially basketball. Lucky gal!

Alicia W. said...

Hi Erin...I just found your blog today and I am loving it! My husband is the same way...he knows enough about current sports to have an idea of what is going on, but doesn't really care. It makes things a lot less stressful, I think.

LisAway said...

Mine doesn't do sports or computer games. I'm sure he makes up for it with other bad habits, but I still feel a little bad for women with husbands who are sport fanatics (or addicted to computer games).

I've loved catching up wit you. I heartily agree with your Heather post!
