First, I want to say thank you for all of your good ideas on yesterday's post. I'm taking them all into consideration (doing themes on certain days, setting things to auto post and taking a vacation, write every other day and read blogs on the other days, be completely random and keep people guessing). I'm sure you will be hearing more about it as I decide what will work best for me.
And now for my regularly scheduled post...
Aidan was sitting on the bar stool. His blankie fell to the ground.
Aidan: "Mama, my blankie fell down."
Me: "That's nice."
Aidan: "Mama, I want my blankie!"
Me: "Get off of the chair and get it then."
Aidan: "No! I want my blankie!"
Me: "I'm not getting your blankie for you."
Aidan: (seeing the light click on in his head) "Please will you get my blankie for me?"
Me: (realizing that he thinks the word please will get him anything) "No, you can get it yourself."
Slight tantrum ensues. I give him the scrambled eggs that I just finished making and he promptly forgets about the blanket.
For now.

Even though I am too indulgent with my children sometimes, we sure do have fun together. Ever since we got home from our Christmas vacation, Aidan has been obsessed with Monopoly. We have to play it at least two times a day. I'm not kidding. He loves rolling the dice, counting the dots and moving the proper number of squares. We have made up rules, like if he lands on a property that I own, he gets to take it from me. (And we don't actually "purchase" property; we acquire it when we land on it.) He gets SO excited when he lands on Free Parking. And when he gets a Get Out of Jail Free card. It is so cute to watch him that I actually don't mind playing with him (even though, as a general rule, I don't like Monopoly).
And, yesterday we had "birthday parties". The boys decided it was everyone's birthday and we needed to have a party. There were puppet shows, pretend gumballs and licorice to eat, jumping on the bed for a game, and video games using the lid of the laundry basket as a tv screen and holding pretend controllers in our hands. We all had so much fun!
I love my boys.

I love playing board games with my kids. That is one thing, ironically, that doesn't bore me!
How fun! The birthday party day is so creative! Once it was my son's stuffed penguin's birthday...we ate A LOT of cake that day.
I have had similar moments with my youngest! Its a real eye opener!
I love the "Birthday Parties" and all the activities. Those are great memories you are making!
I think that just makes your a good Mom. I, all too often, say "get it yourself" to my kids. Well, at least they're indepedent. My 7 year old thinks she's old enough to babysit and get paid for it. She asks me all the time if she can babysit for me.
HA! How is she going to wait another 5 years?
I always think cuddle when I hear coddle. Is there a difference, really?
I would say this post is Yet Another Clue That Maybe, Just Maybe, You Are An Awesome Mother. Or actually, for sure.
What a good mom you are. I'm not that great at playing pretend with my kids.
You are a better mother than I am. I would NEVER play Monopoly with my kids. I am not the game playing parent. I'll maybe play Strawberry Shortcake or Disney Trivia, but I don't have a lot of patience with the game playing. Perhaps I need to work on that.
Aaah, Monopoly! Run for your lives!! Yeah, not exactly my favorite game. I'll tell you what, though - I am now officially the Grand Master of Candyland.
That's something to brag about right there.
We have the same conversation at our hosue over blankies. We are still working on please so I usually cave if she uses it. The birthday party sounds fun!
Beck and I are kindred spirits about Monopoly. Ww have it where I work, and I refuse to play it with the kids. I will play anything else. It's SOOOOOO long! My kids will hate me.
I agree- you are a great mom to sit and play games like that! Good job, mommy!
And good job not getting him the blankie. It's hard, but some days we gotta stick to it!

Ooh-I want to have a birthday party with everyone. Sounds fun. Especially the jumping on the bed part.
What a great mom!! You just enjoy all the precious moments with those kids because one day you will turn around and they will be gone. Trust me it happens way too fast.
Oh you have so much! Your boys sounds adorable!
I noticed that you have commented on some of the blogs that I've commented on so I just had to come and take a peak at your blog! You are a good mommy. I can relate to your blanket story. I think your monopoly game with your own rules is a great idea and you have to be a really really good person to play twice a day with a little guy!
it sure is fun to play with the kids and see what new ideas and things they come up with to be entertained. What a fun idea with the birthday party thing!!
What a good mommy you are!! When my kids suggest a board game I want to scream and pull my hair out. I love spending time with them but they are all very competitive and then the poor winner--sore loser insues and I just want to bury myself in the backyard.
Kids are funny especially boys (since I have 4 of them). Love thier imagination and that you would play birthday party with them!
How fun!!! I bet your boys just loved it. My kids even now just love to play games. Enjoy every minute while they are little. I think your blog is great, I think it probably helps that you have so many people want to read your blog.
I love "un"birthdays--just like on Alice in Wonderful--"Have a very merry unbirthday to us. To us." Gotta love it! You're a fun mom! And I totally relate to the Aiden/blanket scenario. That was fun to read.
You remind me of Robin Williams mom in the movie Jack...the one that plays laser tag with him in the house. That is awesome that you embrace their imaginations and give them the opportunity to use it!
Oh how fun! You sound like such a great mom!
I have to beg people around here to play board games with me. Send your son over here for a week!
You are an awesome mom. I do anything I can to get out of playing board games. The funny thing is, that once I start playing with them I love it and think, "Why don't I do this more often?"
And thanks again for your vote ;-)
You rock the mom party.
These things happen with Miles too, where he'll TELL me to go get something he wants (because usually I do) and I'll say, "if it's something you want, you can go and get it." Then he'll just forget about it. Nice.
I love your perspective on Monopoly. Hopefully I'll feel the same when the time comes. Cause I really don't like that game either. (:
love is wonderful and I hav only one boy but I love him tons!
You are such a great mommy! Isn't it so great to spend quality time with your kids? I was actually sad to see mine go back to school after the holidays.
Thank You so much for all your love and support with my new blog!
What a good mom you are! I'm for candyland...but mononpoly...um, no. Kudos to you!
Love it! I hated playing board games with my kids. So selfish of me. I admire you for playing with them so much!
So . . . did you jump on a bed?
I'm loving your Monopoly rules!
Blessings!
YOU, my friend, are a FABULOUS mom. What lucky boys!!
I indulge my kids also. But my goodness it sure is fun playing all these silly games with them. I think we will miss it lots later. Monopoly rules
Your boys sound so cute. Enjoy this time with them!
I do love playing board games with my kids. We got one for Christmas called Snorta- you make animal sounds- they LOVE it! I am a firm believer in letting kids do things for themselves... my new mantra with my kids is "You can do hard things" they look at me funny, but it'll grow on them
My girls love playing Monopoly as well. That and Life. They love the little people that go in the little cars.
