Random Tuesday

I love love love to eat at restaurants. However, I am very responsible and stick to our budget very well. We hadn't been to a restaurant since Dec 29. Considering the fact that I always want to go out, I think I deserve a medal. But on Friday I was having a hard day, and my husband suggested Costa Vida for dinner. Of course, I was happy to oblige...actually, Christian was the one obliging because he doesn't even like Costa Vida. He only offered because he knows how much I like it. Awww. Anyway, I savored every bite.

Uh-oh. The bull has been unleashed. Now I'm craving it again. BAD.

Should I be concerned that when we went to the doctor last week and each boy got to choose a prize afterward, they each chose a ring? Aidan said his was a "pirate ring" (it was actually a toe ring). Ethan said his ring was okay because it had a blue jewel, and blue is a boy color. Thankfully, neither one of them have worn them in public.

Christian and I have watched the first two Star Wars movies. During A New Hope, I made him pause it every five minutes so I could ask him questions. Yes, I am that dense when it comes to sci fi. But thankfully I did, because I finally understood the story line! And in the second movie, The Empire Strikes Back, I was able to follow along. That didn't stop me from asking Christian to pause the movie three or four times just to pretend I had questions.

We have also watched the first episode of LOST. I just have to say - YIKES. I'm afraid we are already hooked. As my friend jokingly told me, "You now have two days to watch four seasons, because the new season starts on tv on Wednesday." Hmmm, let's see...four seasons divided by two days = no sleep, no cooked meals, no attention paid to kids, no work, no anything. It's almost doable, isn't it?

Christian spent hours and hours on Monday working on our taxes. If any of you have ever done TaxAct or TurboTax, you know that in the top right corner they tally the federal and state amounts you owe or will receive. It changes with every page as you fill in the numbers. Our Iowa state tax amount went from receiving $400, to owing $900, to owing $1200, to receiving $6, to owing $12, to receiving $40. What a roller coaster of emotions as we thought we might be paying huge amounts to Iowa! Note to self: don't look at the number in the top right corner until all of the information has been entered.

I have been asked to speak for 10 minutes about challenging our minds in Relief Society on Thursday. I've apparently pulled the wool over someone's eyes. Do they think I challenge my mind on a regular basis? I wonder how I can incorporate blogging into the theme?

Do you know how many people will be out buying guns today? I love star wars and I'm glad that you liked it. LOST is my favorite! Get to watching! Um, the ring thing, um, it's okay? Really, it is. Maybe they'll forget about them and you can throw them away.

Do they still have that great Chinese Restaurant in Cedar. I guess I must be hungry because I am craving it right now!

I am with you on eating out. I love it, too. I don't know why. I like cooking, and everything. But eating out is the best.

Yeah for Star Wars.

As for Lost, never seen it. And I don't want to be all holier than thou or anything, but you may want to reconsider all of the neglect are willing to live with just for a show. I mean--are you gonna BLOG or what???!!!

Iowa state taxes SUCK! when JP was in the Marine Corps and hadn't lived in Iowa for 4 years, they always wanted their cut every year. I think its HORRIBLE that he paid them taxes (always ended up owing, never got a refund) while he served in Iraq. What he didn't know is that if he'd literally just "gone across the river" to enlist in Illinois, he not only would have not paid during his enlistment, but he would have had college completely paid for by the state when he got out. Oh well. Iowa's run by a bunch of dems, so of course the taxes are outrageous. (but I'd like to know what they're spending the money on because the state needs alot of work)

Glald you got to see and understand Star Wars. I love the original ones. The new ones are not as good to me. I think the animations were better before the animation craze.

I hate to admit that I'm hooked on LOST. It is so weird that it's good!

Good luck on your speech. I'm sure whatever you decide to speak about will be worth hearing!

Lost is the best! Take your time catching up on it though- I am way excited for the new one :) We hand out rings to all the kids in primary for their birthdays and even the boys seem excited (which surprised me) so it's the thing now I guess.

Love the randomness! Your experience with the taxes...Ouch! That is yet another reason to let my husband fret over them, and just stay out of it!

Stopping by from The World According to the Little Fish.

I don't know why but my wife and I decide to go to a tax person to do our taxes. It really hurts when not only do you have to pay the government, but you have to pay the guy who did your taxes as well. Ahhh.

You could totally come with a connection to blogging. (What, you mean it DOESN'T challenge your mind?)

The first two years we were married, we owed federal taxes. The third year, we broke even. Last year, we were owed money, and I'm hoping that is the case this year. Gotta love being an independent contractor!

Glad you are enjoying the classic StarWars series!!

We normally get a decent return, but since I was a complete moocher for 95% of last year, we're hoping for a small return...keep your fingers crossed!

I'm curious to know what event is behind your topic for RS...hmmmm???

Jillene said...

I love this random post!! Star Wars--great. Lost--I have never watched. Eating out--I love to. RS talk--you will do GREAT!!

Britt said...

I can't wait for Lost this week. If I were you, I'd slowly watch them over this season and then rent season four next year. Then you don't have to see any commercials!

carrhop said...

I'm very proud of you for determining to educate yourself on all thing Star Wars. Bravo~

And look out for Lost Addiction--we hadn't watched, didn't understand what the big deal was--and then rented the first season--and all household chores, hobbies, running...it all went out the door while we caught up on the first four seasons....

It is dangerous, powerful stuff. Handle with care! ;o)

Blessings!

I love Costa Vida -- hate cooking. Sounds like a fair trade!!!

Also, I am hooked on Lost as well. But I love watching them AFTER they air... Then I am in some control of those dang commercials and cliff hangers

Christine said...

We love Costa Vida too!

And I don't know about blogging, but I was thinking you could include goodreads in your RS talk.

Lara Neves said...

I want some Costa Vida now! Yummy!

We really should try to go to lunch at the Pastry Pub soon, since it's finally reopened.

I hate Star Wars. I don't even know what you're talking about when you say "A New Hope." That's really the name of one of them?

And I am afraid to watch Lost. Don't worry though, I say watch all the seasons, and then watch the rest on itunes once you've caught up. That's what we're making my niece do with 24. She's only missed 3 episodes really and she's almost there.

Barbaloot said...

Now I'm craving Costa Vida...

For RS you should talk about TurboTax and how it challenged your mind to avoid looking in the top right corner.

I've never watched LOST myself...
but I'd be willing to neglect the house, kids, meals, bills, and even personal grooming to sit and watch hour after hour of Matthew Fox...
I don't really care what the show is about =)

I'm counting down the days until Lost. Actually, I've been counting for a while now...

As for the rings, that's not so bad. At least they don't want to dress up in their little sister's clothes just because they're pink. (Uh, not that I would know anything about this in my own life!!)

Sabrina said...

LOST is back tomorrow! You better start watching fast!!! :)

Unknown said...

Go fo the LOST marathon- but don't get discouraged by the weird stuff...stick with it!!!

SHould I be buying a gun today?

I absolutely love your little ring story. I find it refreshingly metrosexual. ;)

And you're most welcome for the comment. You think it's not noticeable when you're absent but you're soooooo wrong!

:)

I love Lost, it's one of the few shows I still watch.

We are all Star Wars fans here. My boys and husband more than me though.

Just SO said...

I love LOST as well but have only seen bits and parts of it. I need to rent and watch it all too.

I LOVE Lost!. I got hooked last season and spent days on the computer watching every episode (it's free online so why netflix it? Even if my tv is a lot bigger?) As for eating out, learn to make the copycat recipes. Sometimes they even turn out better and your so proud for doing it (and a lot of the meat can be crockpot-ed). And for taxes...at least you didnt get audited like we did. Our last tax guy ended up going to prison for tax fraud and they audited all his clients, including us and we owed an extra 1300 (recent by the way) and then another 500 to our new tax guy (including the discount because he's in our ward). I about died!.

Shoot! Now I want some Costa Vida too. Or, maybe Cafe Rio will do. Crap! I'll take either one right now.

My SIL has always done our taxes. From day 1 of our marriage (she's a CPA), but after a fiasco with several family members last season, she has cut us all OFF!
Our first year doing our own taxes. I.AM.FRIGHTENED.

I think that you and I are twins about that restaurant thing. I'm the SAME way. We went out to dinner this weekend for the first time in a LONG while, and now I'm longing for each meal to be cooked by someone else.

Kayla said...

LOST is great. It does suck you in. I wouldn't worry about catching up before tomorrow because they will take such a long break after this season and before the next (if there is a next) and you will have plenty of time!

Sher said...

Well, if I'd known you had a Costa Vida, I'd have stopped in to see you on my way south!!
I've never seen any of the new Star wars movies. I saw the old ones with Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher, and those other dudes.
This is going to sound bad, but one of the guys in my running group this morning said "Happy Black Tuesday" in honor of the inauguration. Is that racist?

Sher said...

And I almost forgot! I LOVE LOVE LOVE lost! It's so addicting. I started watching in the 2nd season, and had to rent the 1st season and watch it. Good luck catching up!

Oh, I love eating out for so many different reasons. I do like to cook, but what a treat it is to have someone else cook it AND clean it up. It always seems to taste better when someone else has made it too. As for LOST, we LOVE it!!! We are anxiously awaiting the 2 episodes that premiere tomorrow night:)

Ugh...taxes. It's that time of year again =(

And don't worry about the rings. When they ask to wear tutus, be concerned =)

OH, OH, OH!! I love Costa Vida too. Pork salads are the BEST!! My daughter loves them too and when she comes home this summer from Boston she wants me to have one in hand as I pick her up from the airport for her to enjoy.

I actually love the roller coaster of Turbo tax, it is invigorating, there is fear, there is joy then terror then relief and if we are really lucky, excitement for the things we will soon purchase with all the return check.

OH been there on the tax thingie...and heard some words coming from my hubby I can't repeat! And if you find a way to work blogging into a relief society lesson...dang you better record it because I would hate to miss that lol

I do enjoy eating out too. There is just something about it. Good luck on speaking in RS. You will do great. Good luck.

I share your love for dining out! Anytime my husband says "let's eat out", I'm in the mini-van waiting to leave before he can say "where do you want to go?"

I was laughing about your Turbotax experience, only because I can totally relate to those roller coaster of emotions as you see those numbers go up and down!!!

Strawberry Shortcake said...

Your husband and mine were thinking the same thing on Monday. Mine played a big fat trick on me about the taxes (I don't stick around for that kind of stuff). You will do great on your talk :) And, I hate eating out because I want to do it again sooner rather than later!

I love StarWars - but I had to do the exact same thing to really get all the nuances of it.

Glad to know I'm not alone!
