Wiiiiiiii!

Last week we made a purchase that I'm pretty sure is going to save our lives.

We bought a Wii and a Wii Fit.

Why, do you ask, will it save our lives?

Have I mentioned that I haven't exercised regularly since 1994?

You think I'm kidding.

Way back in my senior year of high school, a friend talked me into joining the track team. She was going to do hurdles, and since I have long legs, I thought they would be easy. HAH! I've never been athletic, and I had never exercised up until that point.

Did I mention my recently ex-boyfriend was also on the track team? I wanted to keep tabs on him wanted him to see how miserable I was wanted him to see that I could live without him.

I was in the best shape I have ever been in while in track. I also had more of what you would call a "tan" while in track...which actually means that my skin was the same color as most people's untanned skin (I am usually a glow-in-the-dark white). I remember the first week of track, we did circuits - up the stadium stairs, down the stadium stairs, halfway around the track, 30 situps, the other half of the track, 20 pushups, up the stairs, down the stairs. Five times around the track total.

I couldn't walk for three days afterward. I had to scoot on my bottom down the stairs in my house to get to my basement bedroom.

But I digress.

So, I haven't exercised since 1994, besides a yoga class my friends tortured me with invited me to attend in 1997.

So, we have had the Wii Fit for six days now. My shins really hurt for the first few days. When I first started it asked me if I tripped over my feet when I walk because I am so unbalanced. Now I'm a yoga master at the sun salutation pose!

The boys love watching us make fools of ourselves doing the Hula Hoop game. They also cheer us on when the biting teeth approach us on the high wire. And yesterday Christian unlocked the penguin trying to catch fish on ice, and they LOVED that one. And, of course, they both play too. Their favorites are the ski jump and the running in place one.

Six days = more exercise than I have done in the last 12 years combined. And I think my jeans might already be fitting a little bit better. I love you Wii Fit!

I love wii fit, too. Too bad our wii is broken! I'm really afraid of the scolding I am going to get when I log onto wii fit again after a month or two of not . . . try skipping a day and see what happens.

I think we're the only people on the planet who don't have a Wii Fit! I think we need to get one. Th elliptical is nice, but I need variation.

And I'm so glad you're coming to the meet and greet!

Yeah for a Wii and Wii Fit. We got a Wii for Christmas but don't have Wii Fit. My sister has it and I've borrowed it a few times and love it. Good luck with everything!

I literally just bought a Wii and a Wii Fit yesterday! I was shocked at the fact that I actually got my heart rate up and was sweating! Who knew jogging in place could do so much! And Hula hooping??? How fun! I got up to 304 last night! Woohoo!

This is the first positive review of a wii fit I've heard:) And it sounds like fun---especially the penguin part.

Kayla said...

We don't have the fit, but we played it a little at Jake's brother's house and I loved the ski jump! We have Mario Kart and the sports package and they are so fun.

I am also like you in that I DON'T exercise. So I should get wii fit someday. I hate exercising!

My husband's cardiologist actually recommended this to him! We are buying one in a couple of weeks!

Now that just makes me want it more!!! Maybe we will go out and get it tonight (we just got our tax return!!!!).

But I think you're forgetting those lovely 3 weeks of a free membership at Curves..... That's pretty much the last (and possibly only) time I've ever exercised.

We got a Wii for Christmas and we have loved it. The Wii Fit is the next thing on the list to buy. I have done the hoola hoop and the ski jumps and stuff on the wii fit...very fun. Enjoy!

I morally opposed to Wii Fits in general. (Actually, we just can't afford one right now and if I act snooty about it, no one will realize I'm crying inside...)

Hooray about the jeans!!

Kristen said...

LOL
You should video you guys on the Wii

Happy Valetine's Day Eve

I really need to get one of these things.

While scrolling down, I noticed on Kristina's comment that you're coming to the meed & greet. Is this true? I may have to find a way to make it there now.

Kristen said...

I am in the same boat as you with the exercising thing (haven't done it in I don't know how long). I am also the same as Kristina because we don't have a Wii fit either. Let me know if it works really well and I might have to go and get one.

it's funny 'cause it's true! i hear ya...

Wii fit sounds so fun. I'm just stuck doing the elliptical. I say I want to do it 2-3 times a week, but really, I only get in ONCE. Sad. I guess I at least am devoted to that once a week workout, and on occasion, some prenatal toning from one of those swell DVDs. You've gotta love and embrace your natural body type. I'm the fattest one in my family, and I think I work out more than either of my sisters. Grrrh.

Aah, my preschoolers LOVE that book! (love you forever) I even made up a tune for it so I was singing yours in my head. I love it! Anyway, we were given a Wii for Christmas and I really need to get the Wii Fit. I hate exercising and I'm hoping that would change it. Good luck! Oh, and you won an award! Check it out here: http://themomnerd.blogspot.com/2009/02/my-first-blog-award-yippee.html

Ummm...you just talked me into getting one. Now I need to talk hubby into it! Love exercise (or lack of it) story...I'm a terrible exerciser! Caleb missed the bus once and it was very traumatic! Don't mess with these kids and their schedules! I'm glad he didn't have to miss his V-day party.

Lee said...

I'm glow in the dark white, too!!
I hope you like the wii fit. Personally I just like my treadmill.

I played left 4 dead while I was treadmilling.
That was talent.

Sabrina said...

Ooh I want one too!
Good job though! what a fun way to exercise!!!!

I love our Wii fit and we have family competitions about who can unlock the next level. Lots of fun and my little one can do it next to me while not on the board.

Good for you! I'm the sames way (haven't exercised since HS) but my office just opened an employee gym. I have been averagin 2x/week. Prety proud of myself. Now, excuse me while I wipe away the cookie crumbs.

It sounds like so much fun. Maybe we will have to invest. I think all of my kids would really enjoy it. We have DDR and they love that.

You are going to feel great when you get to France -- ready to take on the European world...

Keep up the good work!

Way to go Erin! You'll be a hot-ter mom in no time. I've been thinking we should get a Wii, you know...for the grandkids. I DO have some mad skills on Rock Band, so maybe it's time to expand my horizons :) Happy Valentines girlfriend!

Another Mom crossing over to Wii Fit. There must be something to this craze. I very well may to check it out.

Are you allowed to put the program on pause for ice cream breaks?

PS: You are totally make kind of girl, Erin. You can actually remember the last dates that you exercised. By far my favorite part of this post.

I got a Wii Fit yesterday for Valentine's Day. Wanna know what I'm doing now? Do you? DO YOU? I'm watching my son and my husband play it. I haven't even had a turn yet! And I desperately want to slalom. Make them stop!

Dang...I wish instead of getting in a hurry and buying and XBOX360 for Christmas...that I would have been patient and waiting for the WII's to come in. I could sure use the dang exercise!

Tim said...

That is AWESOME! My wife bought it a few weeks ago and the one time I did it Hula hoops about killed me. It told me i was clumsy when I walked to. It said "I bet you fall down when you walk huh?"

Thats the only thing I dont really like about it, that it always seems to put you down. I mean where is the motivation in that? Shouldnt it be cheering you on and building your confidnece? They should rethink that part of the program.

I have heard that allot of people have lost alot of weight by playing it so I will do it. I just hope it works.

Good luck to you on it, and have fun.

Love and Prayers,

Tim

I confess, I am a blog stalker - I do not leave many comments, but I do love you and think of you often! (Just so you know.)
And I felt like you were writing about me - only I haven't a REALLY worked out since 95 - you can guess why. And I got a treadmill. Someday, we are hoping for the Wii & Wii fit.
btw, I'm excited for you to go to France.
what else should I write, so we can catch up?...
love,
J
p.s. there is a lemon fresh or lemon shine in the dishwasher detergent section of wal-mart (here, anyway) that is supposed to clean the inside of the dishwasher... and canned soup is good at 4:45 or chicken nuggets or french toast or microwave baked potatoes (in a special potato bag). Who needs nutritional value EVERYDAY?) later.
