Changes

So, I'm making a few changes on my blog. I haven't quite figured out where I want things on the sidebars, and I desperately want to figure out how to make my own background and header, and I don't want it to look too cluttery. So, in other words, I still don't know what I am doing. I did download this background because I didn't want just plain white. I needed something.

I am also trying to re-evaluate how I am perceived on my blog. I have said this before, but I'll say it again. Even though I am myself on my blog, I tend to only portray one or two facets of myself - funny stuff and random stuff. The strange thing is that in real life I am quite serious. I don't know why I don't translate that into the written word more often.

So, please bear with me as I try to figure out what I want my blog to look like, in visual form and in content form.

Oh, and one last thing. I have felt kind of out of touch since I got back from France. I don't know if my head is still in the clouds or what! But I want you all to know that I really enjoy the friendships I have made through blogging. Thank you for sticking around!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The chocolate was divine! It didn't last an hour after it arrived. Plus big bonus, since I couldn't read the lable--It had no calories!!!

Guilt free pleasure.

If I ever go to France again I will be sure to bring you something tasty.

Hey - you got 3 columns!!

I hear you on feeling out of touch. Once you stop the blogging for a while, at least for me, it is one of the hardest things to start up again. It shouldn't be so much work, but it is for me, at least. Good luck with it all :) I am excited to read what happens.

Looking good in here Erin. I like it alot. I saw this somewhere too. All things France I think. Good luck with the readjusting time. Take it easy.

OK...I'm glad I'm not the only one who is feeling a little out of touch in regards to blogging. I just feel like I've had a hard time getting back into the swing of things after my visit to VA and then being sick...

and, like you, I feel like I struggle sometimes to find my REAL blogging voice.

Anyhoo...I like the temporary look you've got going on here...but if you have any questions about how to do your own header or background, TWEET me...I'd be happy to walk you thru it.

Also, I FINALLY sent you a Direct message on Twitter with my mailing address...sorry it took forever.

Well, good luck reconfiguring everything. It's a great start. Like the three-column thing. I'm guessing you need the right template for that. I also do like the new template, even if it's temporary. It's a soothing color.

Drawing upon what little tech/design knowledge I have, I'm pretty sure you can create backgrounds and headers using digital scrapbook programs. And that's all I have.

I really like the look you are sportin' right now. Its clean and fresh.

I kinda like this background, truthfully. (I really should put a background on mine . . .)

I'm like you--I have a couple of facets I show on my blog, and I'm open and honest with those, but there's a huge part of my life that no one ever sees.

I'm looking forward to watching your blog develop over time. You've already made some great changes - I like the three columns and the new background (not too cutesy).

You layout looks nice. I like the french cursive as the background.

So often the things that happen day to day are the things that we often share. It does not detract from who you are, it only shows how you live your life— which can show who you are if people read between the lines and connect the dots.

I like the new background! And I know we talked a bit about your blog voice.

Obviously, I definitely have a serious side, but my blog is always very humorous, which is an outlet for me. I like to write like that, and that IS a big part of me and how I really am.

I will say there are a few blogs I read that sometimes can get a bit frenetic because it's always written from a different voice, if that makes sense.

You should come over sometime and I'll show you how to make a header.

Or, you should just come over sometime soon, anyway. :)

I like the simple background. A nice graphic style sounds like it would work for you rather than a more 'scrapbooked' look. As to content, I enjoy what you post but it would be fun to hear about your serious side too.

It's funny that you post this because I've been feeling similar about my blog- I cycle through the same themes and don't necessarily project all the sides of me.

Reading my blog you'd think I'm just a big screw up who always comes up short of the mark. In real life, I'm pretty good at a lot of things I just feel weird about showing successes and comfortable wallowing in my less-than moments. Weird.

forming friendships has been the best thing about blogging, for me!

i'M KINDA LIKING THE NEW LOOK. I CAN GIVE YOU LESSONS TO CHANGE YOUR OWN PAPER ISN'T REALLY TO HARD AT ALL.. I'll email you some info on it.

I kinda look at changing your background as moving furniture around. It adds variety. I went through the same thing not long ago... I am still not sure I am sold on the new look.

My husband has been designing my blog for me for months and still hasn't put it up yet. So at least you are going to do it yourself. I am not that talented.

You know, it's kind of funny but when I started blogging I went the funny/zany route for quite awhile. I kept a lot of my more serious ponderings to myself because I thought they would bore people. But bringing out that side of myself has helped me developed some of the truest friendships of my life.

It's quite the adventure trying to figure out who you want to be online...what you want to share and what you don't. And it can help shape the actuality of you as you do it. Powerful stuff!

Let me know if you need any template help!

I love your new look!

The one thing I love most about blogging is the creativity factor!

Blogging is a unique way to help you express all the different facets of who you are:)

go to downloads.com, download paint.net. Find a cute header from cutest blog on the block, or anywhere really, and mess around with the editing stuff till you figure it out. (I still have NOT figured it out.) Anyways, Whatever you choose, I will still read. You have struck a chord with me, I can't say if it was "snarky erin" or "silly erin" or "serious erin" that keeps me coming back, it was just you. So go out, soul search (or blog soul search?) I will still be here! :)

let me tell you i like the look.. keep it the way you like it.. don't let others influence you. people will read your blog no matter how it looks!

i have to tell you one thing i have been wanting to tell you since the week you had your comments off.
i put butter on pop tarts also. just thought you should know. we have something in common.

I think you're great as-is. Mix it up if you want, but we all love you anyway!

This new look is really nice! And you can certainly be serious anytime you want---you don't need permission!

Desta said...

I like the 3 columns, I've been thinking of doing that for ours. If you go to The Cutest Blog on the Bock, there is a tutorial for how to make backgrounds and such. Also, I know you can be serious and funny and not to deter you from being serious on your own blog, but I think that's what CNN is for. I think you have a pretty good mix here.
As a side note, my mom is making me wait until TOMORROW so I can watch Survivor with her. Ugh! The agony!

I just have to say that whatever you are doing, you must be doing something right! Your blog is great!

It looks great around here! Can't wait to see what else gets moved around!

I like the color of the background and the 3 columns. I am bad and do cutest blog on the block as I would have the dorkiest looking blog if I tried to do it on my own.

I will try to pretend that I am not jealous of your Paris trip and hang around.

You are the one that taught me about the favicon, so if there is anything I can do to help you with your blog redesign please let me know!! Although mine is plain white, I actually do know a thing or two (but only two) about messing up a blog to make it pretty! ;D

How did you get two side bars? I only want that one change to my blog, but cannot figure it out. help!!! Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

Heather of the EO said...

Since I'm all over the place, I MUST give you permission to be serious whenver you feel like it. Most people kind of like the variety.

If you just go with your gut, I'm sure you'll remain just as likable as you are now.

We love our Erin! :)

It is always fun to see new backgrounds. I love to read your blog and I think of you as humorous, random but also a little serious too. Have a great weekend.

Lee said...

I've actually always considered you as my "serious" person blog.

Becca said...

I totally know how you feel. I also always wonder if the way I write things is the way they're read and if they're not then I'm worried they're taken out of context. But I think your blog is great and I can see the serious side of you in it too. And I like the new look!

Amanda said...

Did you use my 3 column template site?

Unknown said...

I'm so impressed with the 3 colunms! I want ot try, but I am to afraid of losing my stuff!

I love the blog background, so serene and chic! I notice my voice changes on my blog a lot, and sometimes certain posts annoy me later, but when I look at it as a whole I am usually very satisfied, so I just keep on typing!

Elisa said...

I'm all over the place too. I like blogs like that... it makes them "real". If stuff is always light and fluffy, I have a hard time connecting because I want to know that you are a real person with real thoughts.

BUT...

That being said, I also don't want a Debby Downer blog either. Thats just depressing.

Good luck finding your voice. I am still trying.

I have a good site that walks you through how to add background papers if you want... email me.

tiki_lady said...

ok, i like the abilitiy to type on both sides of your blog page. Was this page bought or was it a free download.

Once you download a background you can customize your page by playing around with the HTML codes.

I spent 2 days playing around saying what does this do, if I change the numbers or if I say dashed or dots? It was long and tedious but I learned a lot.

So, with that said, i have been looking for a blog layout like yours.
