Random Ramblings

Steph from Diapers and Divinity started something new yesterday that I think is pure genius, and I pretty much wish I would have thought of it myself. It's called General Conference Book Club, or GCBC for short. For those of you who are Mormons (or not, we're not exclusive), she is posting which talk from conference we will all read that week and comment about what we learned from that talk. Then we can all gain insights from each other. I can't explain it half as well as she does. Click here to learn about it. I can say that I am very excited to participate in this, and I hope others will too.

I found a couple of cheap calculators in our desk drawer and gave one to each of my boys. They are geniuses! Ethan can figure this equation out in his head: 9+5-3= and then he types it out on the calculator to verify his answer (he's five). He's also figuring out times tables. And Aidan has so much fun punching buttons, and we have taught him what plus, minus, and equals mean. Cheap calculators are the best toy ever!

It's birthday month at our house. With Christian's on the 6th, Aidan's tomorrow and Ethan's on the 25 (and Easter yesterday), there is a lot of excitement, partying, and sugar at our house this whole month. It's a good thing I like sugar...I can take some of it off of my kids' hands.

I spoke with my mother in law tonight, and she told me more about 'aumakuas. It is awesome stuff! I'll post that on Wednesday.

Too funny! I stumbled across the Book Club yesterday myself...added the button to the Small and Simple blog, so hopefully more people will hear about it.

Happy Birthday to everyone =)

What a lovely shout out; thank you. I think it will be a cool community to talk about important stuff. And happy birthday to a household! :)

The good thing about about all the birthdays this month is that when it's your turn it's all about you!

My littlest one is also obsessed with calculators. It satisfies his need to play with electronics and keeps him away from stuff that it's bad to break. He's happy as he can be poking at all the little buttons.

Well, I guess I can't complain anymore about my kids' b-days being oct, nov, dec, jan. You surely have me beat!

That conference book club sounds cool, I'll have to check it out.

My girls like to play with calculators, too, but they just pretend they're phones. They're not too into figuring out math equations.

Happy Birthday to everyone! Wow!

I should get Ryan a calculator. He loves addition and is always following me around telling me what 5 plus 5 is, etc. I think its hilarious...dont know where her learned it.

The "book" club sounds good. And your boy can really figure that equation out in his head? At the age of five? Wow. You must be doing something right.

I checked out the club. I appreciate you sharing that with us. I will definitely be a part of that.

Happy Happy birthday family dear, happy days will come to you all year. If I had one wish then it would be, a happy happy birthday to you from me

That's a great idea for a book club. I'll head over there next. :)

We have three birthdays around the Easter season (and then two in June, and two in July.) I like sugar, too, but I don't like eating it off my kids' hands. ;)

Love the article club idea.

My boys love calculators, dice, cards and flashlights. It seems no matter what we do it always comes back to these simple things.

Sometimes I wonder if my life is really fiction after all.

Your child is brilliant! I can't believe all of the birthdays fall in one month! Who would complain about cake 3x in rapid succession though? Not I.

Great idea and happy birthday to your household:) We are lucky enough to have them spread all throughout the year. Although with them being so close together you could do a community cake;)

I used to think that cheap flashlights were the best toys! I think I may need to stimulate my children a little more! Calculators it is!

What you should get to make calculators even more fun are those GIANT ones you can get at walgreens.
It sounds silly, but oversized things are always really fun. And since the buttons are bigger, I just think they're better for kids.
But that's just me!

I am very impressed with Ethan! He is really smart to figure that equation out at his age! Sounds like you are going to go broke this month with all of the birthdays you've got going in your home! :)
