Fiery in Celtic

About three weeks before Aidan was born, my sister Brooke called and suggested the name Aidan (we still hadn't been able to agree on a name for him). I immediately said, "No, it sounds too close to Ethan. I would constantly get them mixed up. And I'm not even sure if I like the name. But thanks anyway." Christian and I kept searching for names, looking up meanings as well. We wanted the name to fit him just right, but couldn't seem to find the right one. The day before he was born, Christian's sister Jasamyn called and suggested to Christian, "How about Aidan?" Christian said he would suggest it to me. I said to him, "How weird - both of our sisters called with that name." We looked up the meaning and it is Celtic for "fiery." I said, "Uh-oh, I don't want a fiery baby. We can't do that."

And then he was born.

When he came out, he was mad. He was crying fiercely. And his body was red. Red as fire:
We both looked at each other and said, "This is Aidan. There is no other name for this little boy."

Happy 4th birthday Aidan! We love you!
(P.S. He wasn't born until 6:35 PM {after only a three hour labor, neener neener}, so he is still my little three year old for a few more hours.)

Happy Birthday Aidan! I bet you can't believe that he is already 4! And I can't believe that I have never met him! We really need to get together sometime! Wouldn't a trip to Western WA be a great way to take a summer vacation? ;)

My husband and I had knock down, drag out fights when choosing names for our kids. Just thinking about it now gives me a headache.

Hooray for fast labors. Aren't they just the best? My last one was born 12 minutes after we got to the hospital.

Birthdays are so happy . . . and a little bit sad for the mom.

Happy Birthday to Aidan!!

Personally, I LOVE the name...always have. But we're really big on Celtic names, anyway (being Scots-Irish and all)

He is a doll.

I always tell my kids they can't celebrate their birthday until the hour of their birth too.

Enjoy the next 12 hours of your little 3 year old!

Happy birthday, Aidan!

My baby gets mad when we bathe her and her whole body, head to toe, turns bright tomato red instantly. We feel sorry for her but we're also pretty entertained by it.

What a cool story! Ethan and Aidan don't seem too close to me. My sister has Hailey, Kayla, and Charlie. I have serious mix ups with those names...

I've decided that no matter what you name your kids, you are bound to confuse them. It's just part of being a mom. I can't believe how big he is. I remember you fantasizing about being able to eat pizza and chocolate while he was nursing.

Happy Birthday. He is so cute. They grow up so fast. I know what you mean about names, sometimes you don't know until you see them.

Happy Birthday to Aidan!

I think I can only have one more baby because I only have one more boy name saved up that I like. If we had a fourth boy, we might just have to call him "You there" because nothing else has struck me.

Aidan is a darling name. I heard it for the first time on the TV series "Jon and Kate plus 8" My daughter also loves that name and plans to name a child it.

Did you get my email about blogging lunch? Any thoughts? If it's too much now, then no worries.

My boys' names are similar, too. I didn't think they were smilar when I chose #2, but now I continually say one and mean the other! I've heard this happens even if they names *aren't* close, though.

Incidentally, my #2 was also red and MAD when he was born! That's how we knew the name Eric was a good choice -- Eric the Red.
