The Real Me in Song Form

(re-post from 6/27/08)

Songs that induce euphoria inside of me because of the memories associated with them:
  • Blood Makes Noise by Suzanne Vega
  • Main Theme from the Man From Snowy River soundtrack

Songs that induce profound sadness inside of me because of the memories associated with them:

Songs that put a smile on my face:

  • The Wrong Band by Tori Amos
  • Give It Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • Ants Marching by Dave Matthews Band
  • Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand
  • Waterfall by Jon Schmidt

Songs that mean something to me:

  • Daughters by John Mayer
  • And So It Goes by Billy Joel

Songs that remind me of a certain time, place, person, conversation, or situation:

  • Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega
  • The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy on piano
  • Walking in My Shoes by Depeche Mode
  • Stay (I Missed You) by Lisa Loeb

Everyone should make a list like this! We all have songs that stop and make us weep, for whatever reason. I am so thankful for music in my life! Thanks for posting.

I love how music can evoke such strong emotions...over and over again!! One of the many reasons I love all kinds of music!

The Promise makes me sad, too, but I don't think it's because of a specific memory. It's just sad in and of itself, I think!

However there are plenty of songs that totally evoke certain memories and feelings.

Cool post. :)

It is a rare occasion that I meet a fellow fan of Beautiful South. Love it!

As for Suzanne Vega, I so want to email you about this. There's a very funny story about a Suzanne Vega concert I want to share with you, it it's not too awkward. (You know what I mean?)

I have songs that I love but I can never remember what they are until I hear them...does that make sense??

That's awesome! Don't you love it when those songs with special meaning come on the radio? Maybe I'll go to iTunes too!

I love music. I wish I had a sound track to my life. The iPod helps that, but sometimes I'll hear a song on the radio and think "this needs to be on my soundtrack." I rarely go buy it, though. I've thought about carrying around a notebook, so that I can jot down the songs that I want to live my life to. Then maybe I could make a master playlist.

Really, everyone SHOULD have a life playlist! Love your taste in music.

I like this idea. Music is such an amazing thing. The way it works with our brains and emotions. My list would look entirely different. I think maybe I'll give it a looksy.

Great songs - I swear the soundtrack to my life is pretty freakin sweet.

I am one of those people that associate major life events with music. And hearing a certain song will take me right back to a place!

Love it :)
