We have two Baby Signing Time dvds that my kids used to love to watch when they were very little. We haven't pulled them out in almost three years, because their necessity ran out. Once Aidan could speak, we didn't need to watch them anymore. Well, just this week the boys pulled them out and decided to watch them again. And they are loving it! They are practicing all of the signs over and over, and creating sign language sentences, like "Eat more cracker please." We also taught them the signs for "I love you," and volume one of Baby Signing Time teaches them Mom and Dad. For the last few days, Aidan has been signing "I love you Mom" at least 5 times an hour, all day long. It is so cute and heartwarming!
Ethan is obsessed with all things Star Wars right now. We have the Star Wars Wii game, and he is currently the most popular kid in the neighborhood! Everyone wants to come and play with him. And Christian watched the first and second movies with him - the newer ones - but we just had Christian watch and explain movie #3 to him because it was too scary for him. Next in our Netflix queue are the oldies but goodies, #4-6. Practically every word out of his mouth is something about Anakin, or Jedis, or Darth Maul. Last week he read a 150 page chapter book, which I would guesstimate is around a 4th grade level book. He just finished kindergarten. I didn't even want to borrow the book from the library because I was afraid he would be frustrated and overwhelmed, but he read the entire thing. He would disappear and I would find him laying on his top bunk, reading his book.
During the last week of school, Ethan got some stickers that had his school picture on them. He gave one to me and one to Christian, and this is where he put the stickers so we can "always remember him and think of him":
And finally, Aidan may or may not have gone through and poked holes in the flimsy plastic of many of the pork roasts at the grocery store while I was deciding which one I wanted. Oops! Sorry, meat department.
It was very, very hard for me, but I didn't use parentheses at all in this post. I wanted to about 15 times, but I refrained. And the smiley face does NOT count!

35 people wanted to leave a comment:
Oh, the power of the Wii!! We were on our way home yesterday and one of mine asked if they could play at the neighbor's house that afternoon. When I said no, they would all be at swim practice, he said, "Well, what if there Dad is home. Could we just go over and play the Wii?" Sheesh. He didn't even need the kids to be there! He just wanted to play in the house!
Oh, and I have one of those readers too... makes his literary minded Mama proud!
Loved this post! Alex always tries to get to the meat at the grocery store too!
Love the sticker.
What a fun post. I too love to use parantheeses or the dash whenever I write-see there I go again. These are things we use that just make us happy, right?
That is too cute about the picture of Ethan on your steering wheel. Owen and Alyssa love to watch Star Wars. They have seen all six of them~is that bad when your 7 and 3 year old aren't scared of the 3rd new one when Anikan changes into Darth Vader~ I love that Aidan poked holes in the roasts!! That is too funny!!
My boys would be two of the kids at your hosue all the time if we lived in the same neighborhood. They are star wars obsessed right now, too. It cracks me up.
I've never seen the Signing Time movies. I hear they're very good. My sister in law is a stylist in the salon the creator of the series goes to. She has some very interesting stories about her.
I love where Ethan put his picture. Kids are so funny. When my oldest was in the 1st grade, he made me a Christmas present. When he gave it to me he said, "this is probably going to be the best present you will ever get". It was a keychain. He made me put my keys on it immediately and I've been using it ever since. I will continue to use it until it falls apart and can't be used anymore. Then I will save the pieces forever because it was one of the best presents I ever got.
When my boys were little, we tripped over all things Star Wars. I so hear ya on that one. May the force be with you momma.
You have some awesome, great kids Erin. And you are a great mom:).
How sweet is that? A picture right on your steering wheel. Children can be so endearing!!
We haven't gone through any phases (i.e. star wars). Okay, maybe Curious George was a bit of a phase. I'm anxious to see some of the more advanced phases though!
I'm totally impressed that he will read a 150 page book. I don't even read books that long. What a good mommy you are for instilling a love of reading. Great job!
The sticker is so cute! Oh and the smiley face so DOES count. LOL! :o)
You have awesome kids. My favorite is the sticker in the steering wheel. Too sweet.
And from one parantheses addict to another, good job! (Is there a good reason why I shouldn't use them?)
I like to put stickers of myself all around my car and my house. It helps me stay grounded.
Holden loved Signing Time, too. For some reason, Wesley never really took to it. You've got me thinking about Star Wars for Holden now. I bet he'd love it!
The sticker on the steering wheel is such a good idea...maybe I should put one of me on my hubby's car.
My H is a lot like Ethan. She just finished Kindergarten and can read chapter books too.
I love that he put his picture on the steering wheel of the cars--hehe!!
He's seen the newest Star Wars? Man, I haven't even let my kids watch Cars yet. I'm so lame.
What a perfect idea about the sticker picture. It's your rearview mirror, where the kids are always smiling and happy in the car. You may hear crying or fighting in the backseat, but when you check...yep still smiling. I've got to stick one on the steering wheel immediately :)
Are parentheses bad?
My middle child is obsessed with Star Wars Legos. It is all he talks about!
I love the sticker on your stearing wheel.
Your kids sound like mine, except we're all about princesses around here, rather than Star Wars. But we love Signing Time, as well. And my Hannah is a reader, too. Whenever I can't find her, it's because she's reading a book somewhere!
I have a tendency to parenthesize everything! It's good to see that someone is able to NOT use them- you're my inspiration! (I also have a problem with exclamation points, as you can plainly see.)
Kanoa & Ethan would be best of buddies. He loves Star Wars and is always trying to convince neighbor boys to join his jedi training academy.
That last line made me laugh out loud because I was SO going to point out the smiley face!
Star Wars--my kids constantly play Star Wars--we have all six movies, but like you our kids have not seen the third one!
Hey Erin! Thanks for entering my giveaway! Christie and I grew up across the street from one another and Marcy and I are currently in the same ward. Did you go to CHHS?
What do have against parenthetical phrases? (I love them). Your boys are amazingly smart. Ethan is going to graduate college by the time he's 12. Hope you've already started saving.
I always used to try to teach myself sign language, but my ADD would kick in and I'd do other things.
I went through a star wars obsesssion when I was little.
I like that sticker on the steering wheel, that was funny, and I still want to poke the meat myself, and I am a grown up. Nice post.
I taught Baby G sign language (of course) and it's a sanity saver.
Long live emoticons and parenthesis! They are (almost) the best thing ever!!! :-)
Anyway, I love the stickers on the steering wheel. Kind of puts an end to road rage, right??
My kids have a handful of the signing time (oh but I guess it isn't the Baby ones)---oops I am so addicted to those parenthesis too, and they LOVE them. They've got 'em all down pat but they still love to pull 'em out now and again and sing along and sign. I love those things!
Very fun post!
That's so cute that he put pics of himself in your car. how sweet!
I'm going to go dig out my signing times dvd's! I'm sure my kids would re-appreciate them!
Your boys are so cute! I love where he put his stickers. And hey if you get the signing down you can get after them in church without having to make any noise! Bonus.
I use parenthesis all the time too.
