A Sunday Conversation

Before church, Christian was helping Aidan put his tie on. The tie has definitely seen better days.

Christian: "Why is this tie having so many problems?"
me: "Maybe because it got washed in the washing machine."
Christian: "Why did it get washed?"
me: "Maybe because I thought to myself, 'Hmmm, how can I ruin a good tie? I know! I'll put it in the washing machine!"
Christian: "Hey, that's Blog Erin coming out."
me (excitedly): "Ooh, does that mean I am getting more quick-witted and less dim-witted?"
Christian (proud of me): "Hey, that's Blog Erin again!"

So there you have it folks - I'm becoming more like my blog self.

And now for a spiritual thought:
In Sharing Time today (I'm the secretary in the Primary {ages 3-11}), the woman giving the lesson talked about how she started setting aside Sunday evenings to give a "thankful only" prayer. She said she watches for things throughout the day and makes a mental note of things to pray and give thanks for that night. She said it has really helped her be more thankful. I love this idea, and I am going to start doing it! I had heard of doing "thankful only" prayers before, but never on a regular basis. I like the idea of not always asking for things from Heavenly Father, but to show him that we are thankful and don't always expect something in return.

Well... I don't necessarily just do a thankful only prayer but try really hard to be thankful and not just asking for things! Even just a beautiful day or a flower blooming or a healthy grandbaby:) Have a blessed day!

I think blog Erin is great too!

We discussed prayer in Primary too. We talked about, when, where, why, etc. I should have thought to tell the kids this same thing. We can say a prayer without asking for something.

My husband is always accusing me of writing my next blog entry in my head and he is right I always am :)
Your blog is so enjoyable to read. And I think I will start a weekly thankful prayer to. I am in the primary presidency and I think I often get more out of primary lessons than I used to get out of Sunday school :)

Oh, I love that. We'll try that tonight. (imagine if all your readers did thankful prayers tonight? blessings coming your way...)

I love thankful prayers---but sometimes I get carried away and say I'm thankful for things like my pillow. I mean, I REALLY like my pillow---but maybe I shouldn't be THAT specific? Who knows:)

that is a great idea! I need to show more thankfulness and making it a sunday habit works perfect!

I think thankful only prayers are a great idea. It's really just counting your blessings out loud to Heavenly Father, isn't it? That always makes me feel better.

One of my favorite ties of Malachi's was way gross! I tried everything...then I washed it, yeah it was ruined!

Blog Erin and Real life Erin are one step closer to melding as one. Awesome.

I too love those thankful prayers. I need to give more of them.

I like blog Erin too. :)

And I love the idea of thankful prayers on a certain day each week. That's such a great way to be mindful of it.

That's pretty funny, although I can't imagine this conversation ever happening between me and C, who completely doesn't approve to my blogging or facebooking.
he's pretty old school.

I just love those conversations when my husband is getting dressed in the morning. I critique his clothes and he tells me he loves me.

Life is so good. The line between blog and reality gets fuzzier every day.

So you are tellin' us that you are more snarky in blogdom than in real life? Love it!

I love the idea of saying a thanks prayer on Sundays! I have really never thought to do it so thanks for passing the idea along, you helped someone that you don't even know!

When our boys were in the NICU and things had gone well that day, we did "thankful only" prayers. It definitely helped us appreciate the blessings the Lord had given us with our boys.
I should probably start doing that again, so that I focus on what I can eat, rather than what I can't.
