I never go a day without something sweet. Never. Whether it's buying a Twix in the checkout line, or making cookies with my boys, or eating chocolate chips out of the package, I have something sweet (usually chocolatey) every day. Sometimes several times a day. While I am one of the lucky ones who doesn't gain weight, that doesn't mean that I am healthy. Eating sweets all day every day isn't good for me! I was trying to think of something goal-wise I felt like I could do, and I remembered Liz from My Ice Cream Diary does something called "For Just One Week." Ding ding ding ding! That's it!
For just one week (starting Monday) I'm not going to eat any unhealthy treats. Now, this doesn't mean I'm cutting sugar out of my diet. In fact, I'm pretty sure I will be making brown sugar chicken next week. But instead of my Twix bar, I'm going to buy yogurt and granola. Instead of making cookies, I will make bread. Instead of eating chocolate chips out of the package, I will eat peaches and cottage cheese (yum!). I can do this!
I'll let you know how I did at the end of the week. And I can't guarantee this will be a continual thing on my blog, but I already know what I am going to do for next week.
Does anyone else want to play? You have until Monday to come up with something...

(P.S. I wrote this post a couple of days ago, and as I write this postscript at 11:42 PM Thursday night, I'm terrified to actually post this tomorrow morning. Because then it means that I will actually abide by it and not eat sugary treats all next week. I'm scared. Hold me!)

You go. I'll be happily munching on some Snickers in your memory, sorry.
I'm about to go on vacation... so yeah maybe another week :)
Good luck though! I bet you won't even be craving it as much by the end of the week... though it would probably take more like a month to really lose that craving.
I'm going to join you on your journey. I think I can do it. I've given up a lot, but still sneak something in every once in a while. I don't do it to excess and I would say I'm a million times more healthy than I was 2 months ago, but still not great. This post was a good kick in the pants for me.
Don't be scared. You can do this. ☺
I'd join with you---but I'm going on vacation and am pretty sure that going without unhealthy food on vacation is a sin!
But, in preparation I haven't had junk food all this week:)
Good luck!
Good luck, I'm trying to do something similar. SUCKS!!!
Count me in! Monday. No excuses! LOL!
How about giving up saurkraut (sp)? Wait. I already hate that stuff.
Good luck to you! Keep us posted.
Yay!! You can do one week! But it'll be hard. I'm going on 3 weeks right now, but this last week has been the hardest. And now I understand why a recovered alcoholic can't evern drink again. I thought going without would cure me of my addiction, and the few times that I've cheated it just makes me want more and more, and I'm worse off than I was before.
So, my advice would be to go cold turkey, and don't have any treats all week. It's easier than just having a little bit and stopping.
You can do it!
Your PS cracked me up! You can do it!
I'm exactly like you, except that I probably eat more junk and bake more often than you do. Especially since I'm pregnant I really need to do better. Maybe, MAYBE I'll try it with you, but I'll just say I can only eat dessert. Nothing during the day. That's as far as I'll go. And I'm not sure I'll go that far. I really should, though.
You can do it, for sure. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing it with you. . . (or at least my version)
Good luck...I'll be out of town or else I would totally join you. At least I'm pretty sure I would join you.
Ditto to every word that Sher just wrote.
I seriously need Sugar Addicts Anonymous or something. Once I'm off for about a month it becomes easier to pass things up, but one bite and I'm completely off the wagon.
You go girl.
Good for you! I think such exercises are good for us not just health wise, but because of what they teach us about ourselves. I have a one treat a day policy I'm trying to put back into effect. One little treat, after supper ('cause if I have it earlier, heaven knows I'll talk myself into another one!). It works well...err...when it works...
I can't wait to read how this goes. I would end up in prison if I cut sugar out of my life. I am sure I would lose some much not needed weight, but I also would kill someone. Good luck!
You can do it! Go, you! I won't be doing, it, but go you!
You go girl, and you too Sheri!!!
Oh can I do it for just one day? Please.. nope? ok I will start of Monday with you.... We can do it! won't be hard for me though, cuz I hate to use the crutches.. So no food is in sight easily... Goooo Us!!!
I've been trying to do this all week and it has been very hard for me, but I have made it so far. Well, I did buy whole chocolate milk at the store yesterday (the single serving bottle) and told myself that was my treat for the day. I figure it is a step in the right direction. I'll try again next week with you.
What a great idea! I am going to commit to bringing my own lunch to work every day next week.
I should be doing something like this. I feel like I've been very unhealthy this pregnancy. Unfortunately I don't think I'm as brave as you right now. Inspire me...and Good Luck!!
It's a great idea...I went to sugar only on Saturday's, and lost five pounds in 2 weeks..I just didn't stick with it!
I need to do it again!
I am reading a book called "Naturally Thin" and she uses, when she has cravings, the natural organic sugar that is not processed for cookies and breads, so the taste is richer and as farras sugar goes, it is better for you. I am going to try it....
I have a friend who only eats sugar one day of the week. I don't think I could handle it. Good luck!
Well, I agree with Lara. Not that I've ever given up sugar. But, I think that's the point. If you give it up entirely, you'll want it more. But, a week is doable.
I was always terrified of the glucose screening for gest. diabetes when I'm preg for this reason. I love sweets. But, I eat them sparingly.
I did it for a month and although it was really hard, I felt really good. I'm going to do it again.
Good luck with that! I have been working hard to lose weight but I still plan for a treat everyday. Maybe not a whole Twix bar (my fav! you've got good chocolate taste) but a mini-bar or something similar.
It will be fun to see how it goes. You're a stronger woman than I am!
My life is lacking order so when I find it I'll add this to the loot. Good luck!! Good idea on the 'what you can do' stuff. I like that.
There are plenty of things I should give up or take on (in a healthy way). Alas, I don't have the motivation. I will cheer you on though!!
P.S. I hate being the last one to comment. Please know its not because I adore you any less!
I'll play! It's the perfect motivation for me to get back on track.
And who says you have to completely cut out sugar to be healthy? Not me! Fresh homemade goodies are way better for you. Yum....see my problem?
OK.
One week without any treats.
I CAN DO HARD THINGS(that was the motto for the pioneer trek that my daughter went on last summer, and it's a good one).
So, I will start Monday. Tomorrow we celebrate my son-in-law's and my husband's birthday, and I am in charge of the cake!
:~D
You can do it! I went of sugar for 2 weeks a couple of years ago and I never in a million years thought that I would be able to do that. I should try that again. . .
OK...you've inspired me. But if you think for a minute that I'm brave enough to post about it, you're wrong. So I will take the cheaters commitment and let you know via comment that I'm on board. No sugar this week for me--ok no sugary treats--I can use it in recipies though. If I don't follow through and leave you a comment (or even better, do my own post about it) then I have to mail you a little somethin'-somethin'!
when I went off Diet Pop, my sugar craving PLUMMETED. No joke I went from having cookies, candy, whatever was handy after lunch, dinner and anytime in between, to having something sweet about once a week, and fruit generally covering the craving. I totally 100% blame the diet pop for the sugar cravings and totally 100% believe that cutting out the pop cut off my cravings. it was completely simoultaneous.
I did that for six weeks. It was very hard. I don't do much sugar now but it is true it is so hard once I break down and have one treat. I know you can do it. Good luck.
I too eat chocolate chips right out of the package. I don't think I could give it up, unless of course I had to. Best of luck to you.
Man, even giving it up for a WEEK is torturous. And now that you mentioned my fave candy bar Twix, I'm ready to go to the convenience store and buy one! I have a friend who got into a contest where they put $20 into a pot and whoever lasted 12 weeks without eating sugar, got the pot. She DID it and won the pot and still to this day has not eaten a stitch of sugar. Kudos! But like you, I eat something sugary EVERY day.
Oooo good for you! Good luck :)
Okay...so I have to ask....I just made the brown sugar chicken. You first! What did you think?
