Things I Learned in San Diego

-People are willing to help - three people asked us if we were lost and needed help to get to our destination. (I guess we must have looked pretty helpless?)

-People stare at us - either because I'm tall, or my sister is pregnant, or we look like tourists.

-I figured out the trolley system just like I figured out the metro in Paris.

-Heavenly Cupcakes really are pure heaven. (We went three times)

-Having a wheelchair at Sea World gets you in exhibits and on rides faster.

-El Indio, a mexican restaurant that was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, really is every bit as good as the tv show said it was. (We went twice)

-The Hilton at the Gaslamp district is the perfect place to stay in San Diego.

-Three nights, three people, two double beds = each one of us got our own double bed for one night. When I sleep on my own in a double bed, I sleep well. When I share a double bed with my mom or sister, not so much.

-I enjoy love am obsessed with adore eating out.

-I have some OCD-like tendencies when it comes to showering.

-Do NOT look into the windows at the New York Strip Steak Bar.

-Ocean water smells gross when you are inland a bit.

-The bus ride to La Jolla (pronounce La Hoya) was absolutely worth it for this restaurant (it was to die for - I bought the cookbook it was so amazing) and to see the seals.

-We got out of there just in time - yesterday there was a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in the Gulf of California that was felt very strongly in San Diego. Whew!

I grew up in Southern California, and don't miss it AT ALL, but I do love, love, love San Diego. It's beautiful and doesn't have the nasty air like everywhere else.

Sounds like you had a great trip! I love San Diego, but not sure I would want to live there. Maybe I should visit some day with my mom and sister!!

See, I'm so different from your first poster---born and raised in So CA and can't ever see me leaving! Good thing my husband (Montana boy) loves it as much as I do :)

I didn't even hear about that earthquake Erin and we live just an hour north of SD. Off to google it!

Glad you had a good time! Aaron surprised me with a trip to SD a few weeks before our #2 was born and it was the most memorable weekend we've had to date. We had the best time!

Sounds like a fun trip. Now I have some new places I will have to go to when I am in San Diego.

My mom grew up in La Jolla, so that has always been a favorite family vacation spot. I still love it, even though I only have one uncle left in the area since my grandparents passed away.

So happy you had such fun!

I called and left a message on your cell...I can't find your home number. Hoping for greenshow tonight! :)

Fun! I want some of that food.

Pictures, please?

Fun trip....I have family down that way and I love visiting them. Warm beaches...the cold beaches in Oregon just aren't the same.

I LOVE San Deigo!! We are going to take our kids to Sea World in October 2010. O wants to go to Disneyland for her birthday and H wants to go to Sea World. I can't WAIT!!

Glad that you had a great time!!

Ah, La Jolla. I have some fun memories there. Was it just you, your sister and your mom? How fun!

We love San Diego, too. My mom grew up there, and Louie and I went there on our honeymoon. Reading this made me realize I NEED to go back! There's a yummy Mexican place in Old Town.
I once snorkeled in La Jolla Cove! It was freezing.

I too have a major obsession with eating out. It's a good thing we can only afford it a few times a month, because I'd happily cook once a week, if others would do the cooking for the rest of the days...yeah, that sounds fair. I'd also love to have a hired cook on hand. That would almost be better than eating out - as long as they also cleaned up the mess.

ooh, one of my favorite places on EARTH. But you have me wondering about the NY Strip Steak House...more about the strip, less about the steak? You have to let me know before I google it and wind up sorry. ;)

All of my trips to CA in recent years have centered in Long Beach. My SIL is moving to San Diego this fall and I am excited to have a place to stay so we can go explore!

Oh my, those cupcakes do look heavenly and the mexican food, don't even get me started on that. I'm so glad you had a fun time.

But then you could have LEARNED what an earthquake feels like. Glad you had fun.

Oh come on! Where's your sense of adventure? Earthquakes are FUN!!

Greg refuses to ever live in California despite the fact that I love the place dearly, because of earthquakes. Whatever. I'm sort of okay with it because I miss seasons when I live there anyway.

I've never really liked the smell of ocean water.
Heavenly cupcakes?

I've been craving cupcakes lately.

How I love San Diego. I lived there my sophomore year in high school & occasional summers. It is heaven in my opinion. We're going in 2 weeks & I'm going to try your food suggestions being the foodie that you are.

I love San Diego. It is my favorite place. When we lived in Phoenix we drove over every chance we got. La Jolla is incredible! I love all the running trails by the beach.

Fun! Why did you go to San Diego? How are you anyway? I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever! Even if it is through blogging.... :)

Were you there during Comic Con or whatever it's called? If so, was it nuts?

And next time you go, you MUST go to Hash House A Go Go. Best food ever. I hear choirs of heavenly angels in my mind just thinking about it. Mmmm.

That all sounds so fun. And yummy.

Love it there! So glad you had a great time Erin. And #1 is a good reminder that great people exist to balance the anonymous comment leavers. LOL.

So...do tell, why are we not supposed to look in the windows at the Steak house? It is because we will covet what is on others plates? Or something worse?

Jen said...

Haha! Totally funny and it sounds like you had a FANTASTIC time! I love San Diego. It's a cool town. We were there a year ago and fell in love with it. And why did you have a wheelchair at Sea World?

I love love to eat out too. It's always fun when you're out of town and can use that as an excuse (even though I like to go at home a lot too).

San Diego is beautiful, I haven't been there for so long.
