Lessons Learned

Things I have learned over the last week:
  • Three diapers in the diaper bag are never enough, even if you will only be gone for one hour.
  • Snacks in the diaper bag are a necessity.
  • My feet can (and will) swell every night to the size of huge sausages with toes attached.
  • My eyes can be so puffy from lack of sleep that my eyelid actually obstructs my vision.
  • Every time I wake up in the middle of the night to nurse I think of that stinkin' Lost finale.
  • Chest size can grow from an A to a DD cup in a matter of days without surgical augmentation.
  • Baby blues kind of suck, but are much more tolerable when you have a very supportive husband.
  • My stomach still looks six months pregnant, and I have no loose fitting summer shirts.
  • My friends and neighbors here love me and have taken such good care of me!
  • My Google reader hates me.
  • Jaundice isn't fun, but bili blankets are kind of cool (and poor Kaitlyn has six pokes in her heels from having to get her blood checked).
  • My blood type is A+; Kaitlyn's is O- (I didn't know I had a recessive gene somewhere in my gene pool).
  • My patience levels have grown immensely since my oldest was a newborn.
  • My anxiety levels have decreased immensely since my oldest was a newborn.
  • I am happy. Really happy.

I am really happy for you!!

I can't stop thinking about the Lost finale either! UGH!

The only thing nice about Jaundice is the bilibed which helped Grey sleep really well.

The Lost finale. Sheesh! I knew they would do something like that. When did they all die, really?

I am glad I never started watching Lost so I didn't get all wrapped up in it! (Because I so would... I have that obsessive personality type.)

I am so so happy for you & your family!

At least, you are happy! Google Reader will get over it! LOL

So glad you are happy!

Now that you have this "baby thing" down, it will definitely be easier in the long run. This is why you are more patient and less anxious.

So glad to know you are adjusting well to your latest addition.

Oh those heel pokes just break my heart! chloe was on lights for 3 weeks and with a daily prick you can imagine what her poor feet looked like. I hope Kaitlyn can be off her lights soon!

I'm so glad you have support with your baby blues and are managing to sound so positive. My wish for you today is that you sleep at least three hours straight tonight.

I think about you a lot, Erin! Keep up the good work. Isn't it awesome how much easier it is to just go with the flow once you've had a few kids? Glad things are going okay for you!

Is it bad that I laughed at almost every one of these lessons? Just goes to show every time you have a baby it is like the first time! My dad has O- blood. Maybe it is an Inman thing? I also have A+ so we are twins. I am so glad that you are trying to embrace the chaos of having a newborn. It is always hard to be positive when you are seeing things due to lack of sleep.

Sounds like you are doing great despite being tired!!! So happy for you guys!!!

I have never heard of bili blankets. When my babies were jaundiced they just had to lay under those lights. Hmmmm

I relaxed much more with each newborn. Funny, since it seems logical that the stress would increase. But I just let things go easier.

Warm wishes...

It's amazing you are in such a good place so soon after giving birth. You are super woman. Don't worry about the tummy. Just ignore it and enjoy your little one :0)

Hope you make it out of the "I've just given birth and am so freaking tired" fog soon...I feel for ya!

Great list - I'm excited to catch up with you! I can't believe that you're out and about (needing a diaper bag). Hopefully that's just for doctor's appointments and not errands. I'm so glad that you're enjoying Kaitlyn and I'm looking forward to meeting her.

Ah, the lovely ABO incompatibility (thus the jaundice). I have 2 kids with type A blood and I am O, so they both had increased bilirubin and had to stay in the hospital for 5 days under the bili lights baking:) Glad you were able to take your sweet new one home with you and the bili blanket. Thank goodness your hormones will soon start leveling out and you will feel better:) And I love that you said you are really happy - these little ones are so worth it!

And no, Jaundice isn't fun! I totally agree!! :(

So glad things are going well...I really don't miss those tear-filled mornings! And, 10 weeks later, I still look pregnant!

Wow. I feel like I could make the exact same list. Except the DD cup part. And I hate bili blankets because they freak me out. But we've been through two now and you're right, it was way less freaky with the second jaundiced baby than the first one.

Glad all is well!
