Kaitlyn mostly has her days and nights backward. Last night she was mostly awake, with only a couple of tiny catnaps, until 3:00 AM. Christian took the first shift until midnight, and when he had to go to sleep (since he works eight hours today), I took the second shift. Today, I am Exhausted with a capital E. The problem is that she sleeps most of the day and I can't seem to get her to wake up. Here was my valiant effort this morning.
This is after at least two minutes of tickling her, talking to her,
picking her up, and patting her back.

After another couple of minutes, she smiled with her eyes closed.
I think she's taunting me.

Oh, is it really happening? Is she waking up?

Is that a yawn? Is it really working?

Uh oh, I think I spoke too quickly.

Yep, I sure did.

Here's hoping I get a bit more sleep tonight.

I love her little smile!
Oh my. Erin, you know this but I'm going to say it anyway, she is darling! Claira was so much the same at that age. Pretty much just have to cling to sanity till things right themselves, eh?
Look at that smile! Ryder sleeps for longer stretches in the day too.. darn kids. But since he is so young he pretty much sleeps all of the time right now, but I need to get him switched before he starts waking up more.
congrats on her birth, it has been way too long since I have been on your site
She is BEAUTIFUL!! And I think she looks so much like you in the one where she is smiling with her eyes closed. CUTE!
I also hope you get more sleep tonight. I'm sure you're doing the dim lights during the night and no playing and all that business and you know she'll get it eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later!! I was super lucky with Spencer. He caught on with the whole "when it's dark you sleep" really quick.
Good luck, Erin! She is lovely, and I hope you can keep it together through this sleeplessness! (which I only say because I always have such a hard time not blowing up when I'm sleep deprived.)
She is adorable Erin.
Hang in there, they do sleep eventually.
Keep a lot on chocolate and caffeine Coke, Dr. pepper on hand though...:)
I told my sister: "The first 8 weeks are a fog. You're only goal is: survive. Don't you dare try to accomplish anything else, and if you accidentally do, take a nap to recover. Around 8 weeks you'll start to feel like yourself again." Hang in there, Erin, and luckily she's got an adorable little face to look at.
I remember being so desperate to get my daughter on a daytime schedule that I would strip her down to her diaper and put her on the floor hoping she would be cold enough to wake up. She wasn't crazy about it but it didn't keep her from sleeping.
One thing that helped Aubrey sleep longer stretches at night was a bottle before bed. I would breastfeed around 8, bottle at 10, then breastfeed again at 11:30-12. She started sleeping 6, then 8, now 10 hours!
Good luck, Erin. She's adorable. Call a friend to take the boys for a few hours, if you need.
erin- I know your problem! you said you tickle her, talk to her, pat her back, and pick her up! those methods are far to friendly. most of them would PUT me to sleep :) with Ike we would undress him, sprawl him out on the floor, and even sometimes drip ice water on his little head. It worked like a charm and after just two days he was totally day/night trained! :)
Oh man, I know how that is! SO hard! Good luck with that! It probably won't be too much longer!
OH! How cute she is! That smile is worth the sleeplessness! Says me who get to sleep, sometimes! LOL
Olivia pretty much slept through her first 8 weeks of life--nights AND days! It was so hard to get her to wake up/stay awake for nursing. Un-bundling her definitely helped...warmth induces sleepiness! One thing I wish I had tried was a cool, wet washcloth against her face/head. I think that would have worked wonders. Basically, you want to be as lovingly annoying as possible. :)
Good luck!
I was really lucky, all mine loved to sleep at night. But my sisters kids sounds just like yours.. HOpe you get on a better schedule girl! btw- she is precious!
What a little stinker! ;) She looks SO much like her brothers. You can definitely tell she belongs in your family.
She is just precious!!! It took me 7 weeks to get the boys days and nights straightened out, and now at 3 months they are sleeping 14 hrs with only 1 feeding in between. You can do it!!!
Well, staying up all night sure seems to agree with her...she's a cutie!
Heehee, silly baby! Frustrating, because you can't "sleep when the baby sleeps" with other kids around who need you! Good luck. Keep bugging her.
Little stinkers like to give their Mom's trouble already. I have been feeling especially tired lately too. Hank asks if I got a nap in...Ha! I hope one day I will get naps again.
SOOOOOOOOOOOO cute! I love that little grin, just so precious! Even if she keeps you up all night. :)
Everyone said it was mean when we forced our newborn to stay awake after 4pm using any means neccisary - tickling, cold hands, unwrapping. But really, it was all about teaching her the difference between night (sleepy time) and day (awake time). Now she sleeps at night and is awake during the day. Mission accomplished!
