Part of me has been feeling bad lately. I mean, I'm still posting once or twice a week, but I'm having a really hard time being on the computer otherwise. I do have time to read most of your posts, but I certainly have been quiet on the comment front. I don't want my blog friends (you) to think I have deserted you. Then I had a revelation: It's summertime, I have two busy boys and a newborn, I'm still trying to figure all of this out, and... school starts in five weeks! And Aidan starts kindergarten! I will have four hours every morning with just Kaitlyn. Then I started having grandiose ideas about how my house will be sparkling clean, I will blog and leave my comment trailings all around the blogosphere, Kaitlyn and I will play, and I can get all of my errands done during that time. And then reality came crashing down around me. But still, four hours! I really hope to feel a little less frazzled after school starts.

I started a new blog. I know, I know, insert groans here. But here's the back story: I don't particularly like cooking. I very rarely follow recipes when making dinner. And I am not ultra organized and therefore do not make menus. What usually happens is around 4:30 I start thinking, Hmmm, what should we eat tonight? Then I scrounge around and find something that will suffice. More often than not I make the same five or six things (eggs and hashbrowns, german pancakes, spaghetti, etc.) And then about once every two months, when I get fed up with making second-class dinners, I sit down and make a list of fourteen or fifteen items that I can make for dinner over the next couple of weeks. My problem is actually coming up with dinner ideas (especially since I don't like to use recipes). Then I realized that some of my favorite dinner ideas (or even some of the easiest ideas, like tacos) don't seem to register in my brain very often. For me, coming up with the idea (and remembering it for future reference) is the hardest part.
So a few nights ago, I remembered how much I like shepherd's pie, so I made it for dinner. Then I started thinking, What if I have a list where I write down things I make each night, so for the times when I can't decide what to make I can go to this list and jog my memory? And voilà - a blog is born. No recipes, just writing down every day what I am making for dinner. If you want to click over and leave a comment telling me what you are making, it would really help me too so that I can have even more options in my food arsenal. If anything, click over and read my subtitle (check with a dictionary if you must, hee hee).
Dinner's On!
Oh yeah, just so you know - we bought a quarter of a cow last week, so most likely there will be a LOT of beef meals in the near future.

I just don't feel like commenting on people's blogs anymore but still have the time. You just had a baby! It's fine.
Yes coming up with what to make is often the hardest part.
Alex is going to be in preschool three days a week, so Ryder and I will have some just me and him time too.
I can't believe you'd never seen Better Off Dead. It's one of my favorites.
As far as blog oblivion goes, I've slipped off the edge of the universe again. We were gone most of June and have had company most of July, so far, so I don't care anymore. Ha ha!
I do a menu and every two weeks I write down all of the dinners we've had in an old spiral notebook. Not quite a blog, but I like seeing how often we have certain things. Plus I can look back and get ideas, especially during these summer months when the last thing I want to do is stand over the stove or crank up the oven. Good luck!
All I can think of is "Beef… It's what's for dinner"
I'll have to check out your new blog since I'm such a foodie.
I think very few people are around during the summer.
That new blog sounds like a fabulous idea.
I love this idea! I make the same thing over and over! I cannot wait for school to start. The Girls are enrolled in an all day preschool Mon-Thurs. I am dreaming of all that I can get done! LOL
i STILL have the hardest time coming up with dinners!! I do the same thing-- every few months, I come up with a two week menu, and it's wonderful.... and then I stop. Boo.
Just the thought of all the wonderful things you can do with a quarter of a cow makes me excited for you:)
I've noticed not only less comments, but less blog posts all around. I think people are getting out and enjoying summer---at least I hope that's what's going on. It's nice to finally celebrate summer! :)
Great idea! Ummm... where did you buy 1/4 of a cow? I was actually just talking to someone the other day about what a good idea that was, but neither of us knew anyone we would trust to raise/take care of a cow on our behalf.
One of my sister's bought me Better Off Dead one Christmas and I have watched it a grand total of once. I was quite weird and silly. Maybe I should watch it again.
I am horrible at coming up with things for dinner which is why I do Dinners Done Right (make 12 meals every month and freeze them) but if I forget to get one out of the freezer like I did tonight,I can sometimes get really lost. You just reminded me of spaghetti so guess what we are having for dinner tonight?
We bought half a cow three years ago. Yeah. We eat mostly chicken now. =P Good luck!
And hey, no obligations amongst friends. Glad you're letting some of the guilt go!
Thrilled you have finally found the silly goodness of Better off Dead. I LOVE that show and all it's quirkiness.
It's FULL of goofy quotes.
"Ricky, sorry about your mom blowing up."
"Do you realize the street value of this mountain?"
"Go that way. Really fast. If something gets in your way, turn."
Hahahaaa! Now I have to see it gain.
I just love this idea! I make the same thing over and over! I cannot wait for school to start.
Better Off Dead is the funniest show EVER!!! So many kookoo quotes come from that movie! And yea for more blogs! I can't wait to see all the beefy things you come up with! :)
Better Off Dead is fantastic - I get most of my good quotes from that movie!
And hooray on the 1/4 cow - we started with 1/4 and worked our way up the half. Best idea ever!
She may not be French, but she does speak the international language. You know, the international language. . . .
I LOVE that movie! Haven't seen it for YEARS!
Better Off Dead is a CLASSIC! We quote from that one all the time. Just tonight I said to my Hubs "Sorry your Mom blew up, Ricky". I was using it in reference to an ongoing joke between us but I used it nonetheless.
I haven't felt like blogging or commenting lately. It happens. I'm trying to get my blog mojo back. I am sure you will too eventually.
Oh- and that 4 hours will pass quickly but you WILL love it!
I totally get it. No time for blogging, and yet I'm doing random blogging things. And yes, 4 hours! It will be good, no matter what you get accomplished or don't, it will be good.
