Googoo Gaga

My sister Brooke had her third baby in October. When he was just a couple of months old, she would tell me when we talked on the phone (she lives five hours away) that he was having a really hard time with ANY spice. If she ate anything remotely spicy or rich, he would cry and cry for hours after nursing. I knew how difficult it was to cater to an infant's needs (because of Aidan's milk intolerance), so I sympathized with her. Then she would say something that I just didn't understand.

She would say, "I am enjoying him so much."

Enjoying him? How do you enjoy a baby? They are cute and sweet, but they are also so tiring, hungry all the time, I don't get alone time with my husband, and the list goes on. I realized that with my boys, I was so "busy" trying to be a good mom and trying to do everything right (and possibly the fact that I was younger and I was neurotic with my first two), that I had never thought about enjoying them. (Thank goodness I love them SO much now and the fact that not enjoying them as infants didn't ruin them for life.)

Fast forward to last night: I had popped some Eggos in the toaster for a bedtime snack. 10 minutes later Christian came into the room and said, "Honey? Your Eggos are cold." I looked up from the floor, where I was tickling Kaitlyn's toes and said, "I've been distracted cooing and playing with Kaitlyn. This is much more fun than eating Eggos."

Now I get what Brooke means about enjoying our babies.

It's always a good reminder to enjoy our babies. My little guy is taking his first steps and I am trying to drink in every minute of it.

I try every day to take at least one moment and really savor it. My favorite lately has been the back of his head as he looks down at a toy.

Woah! She made you forget your Eggos!?! Now THAT is true love! I'm so glad you are enjoying her, despite some of the challenges! She is such a cutie.

But I still can't believe she made you forget your Eggos! (I desperately miss frozen waffles!!!)

Milo was my most enjoyable baby - but I find that I'm much more into enjoying them as I have more. (Except I get super sick of certain things. Like I hate feeding them baby foods during that 6-12mos stage. It's so time-consuming and slimey.)
For me, with the 3rd, even though he was kind of a fussy baby, I was a lot less neurotic about it. I think you also know from having two older ones that the stage doesn't last long, so you might as well enjoy their squishy yumminess.

I'm glad you are!

I totally understand. I have always LOVED babies and then was extremely surprised that I was just constantly annoyed and frustrated with Keira and just wanted her to GROW UP! Then I had Elaina and I was shocked that I just loved to hold her and play with her and didn't want her to grow at all and almost got upset every time she hit a milestone. I hope that I am able to enjoy any other children that I have as much as I did Elaina and I hope Keira forgives me for just pushing her to grow up. I guess we really do get older and a little wiser.

Awww, it's nice to know you thought I was crazy. :) I'm so glad you understand now! Isn't it a great feeling?

Oh I remember wishing time away when my kids were little, not because I didn't enjoy the stages they were in, but more because I couldn't wait to see them in the NEXT stage.

Like when Brooke was little, I remember saying - next year at this time she'll be at the table instead of the highchair, next year at this time we will know what her little voice will sound like, next moneth she'll be (crawling, toddling, running, etc.)

Now I find myself wishing time would either stand still or just go backwards! LOL.

So glad you are enjoying baby Kaitlyn... :)

I so get this! I've been enjoying Claira in much the same way.

Hooray! After I had Hazel I thought to myself, "Every parent should have a third child so they can see how fun and "easy" it can be having a baby." :) Enjoy yourself!

That is not only sweet, it's a great attitude check! Thanks, Erin.

Yes for some reason the third is easier to enjoy as a baby, at least it has been with me. I think with the first you are worried about doing it right and can't wait for the next milestone. With the second you feel to much guilt over suddenly neglecting your first.... And by your third you realize there Is alway something you could feel guilt about so why bother. Plus you know that it does go fast

I've enjoyed Luke's baby days way more than I did Madelyn's. I'd find myself smiling as I gave him a bath and be like, "Wha???" It's nice!

Yeah for enjoying our babies!! I really didn't start enjoying the boys until we all started sleeping at night (at about 7 weeks). They are now interacting with each other, rolling over, and so much more vocal that I honestly spend most of my day smiling or laughing with them.

Eggos or cooing with delish babies? You've got your priorities straight, girl. I'd take the cooing, too. :)

Babies are the awesome. (I snuggle my sister's baby to get my baby fix now, as our youngest is 3 yrs old!!)

I have enjoyed my Oliver more then I thought possible. I think knowing how fast they grow (and getting a little experience and maturity under the belt) helps a lot! I'm glad you let your eggos get cold

I'm a baby person. I love babies. I would have a 100 if I didn't have to raise them all to adulthood. But, I must say...as ironic as it is, I 'enjoy' my babies more each time even though I am so busy with the previous kids. So happy that you are loving babydom with Caitlyn. She is a doll.

Sorry, but I was distracted by your husband saying, "Honey, your Eggos are cold." giggle
