Proof That I am Not a Pro in the Kitchen

I have owned this pastry brush for 13 years. I have only ever used it to brush butter on the tops of my bread loaves. It has been a lovely pastry brush, never causing me any grief or frustration. I finally learned last night, after 13 years of using this pastry brush on my bread loaves, that I can't use it to spread oil around on a hot griddle.
Oops.

P.S. I'm making bread right now, and I don't have a pastry brush to brush the butter on top of my loaves now.

Meh, I think it still looks usable, but what do I know?

((HUGS)) i honestly haven't ever had a good pastry brush - I'm sorry yours is no longer in commission though - I know how hard it is to replaced good cooking/baking implements.

Is there another reason besides brushing butter on bread that we would use pastry brushes?

D'oh! I often use a paper towel to spread butter on loaf tops.

There are pastry brushes? uhm...who knew?

I recently learned the difference between a silicone spatula and a plastic one. Oops.

And I just rub the whole stick of butter along the tops of the hot bread. Voila!

It still looks fine to me....I'm sure I don't use my utensils "properly" either.

I splurged and bought myself a silicon one so I can do bread AND griddles! I think you can still use it for bread, unless the tip is melted together into a wad. It might not work then. :)

Woops! Just like the time my husband tried to brush away the extra hairs on his clippers... While they were still on.

Oops!

If it makes you feel better..I wouldn't have known what to do with it. I don't bake (obviously) and the only brushes I own are covered in paint.

I have done that before. If the tips are melted together (it looks like they are) just cut off the melted part, it looks like the bristles would still be long enough.

I have a wooden spatula that I mourned when it bit the dust. Or the heat element in the dishwasher, anyway.

On toilet cleaning: If you don't have time to clean the toilet just pour lots of clorox in it and let it sit--great temporary fix! Scrubbing Bubbles for regular cleaning of toilet. Spray all around the inside of the toilet, wait 10 minutes then scrub with toilet brush. Pretty easy and works well!
