Man v. Food

We don't have cable or satellite at our house. We just have a digital antenna that accesses the free channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS, etc.). Then we also have a TiVo box, that costs $10 a month, to record our favorite shows (which are all on the network channels anyway), and we also subscribe to Netflix, which for $10 a month, gets us pretty much any movie or show we want from any other channel anyway.

Last month I was looking through the Netflix instant lists, and came across a show I had never heard of - Man v. Food. It's a show created by the Travel Channel. Travel plus food plus man? I love all three of those things! It's like this show was written for me! I started with season one, and pretty quickly blew through all three seasons. About halfway through season two, my husband sat down and watched a couple with me. During one of the shows, he turned to me and said, "You have a crush on Adam [Richman, the host], don't you?" I'm pretty sure I blushed. I mean, he's so friendly with people! And he has been to all these cool cities across the country, and eaten at all these cool places. Did I mention he's friendly?

One day I want to be at a restaurant when he is taking on their challenge (the premise of the show is whether he can beat the challenge at particular restaurants, whether it is eating the 5 lb burrito, or the hottest buffalo wings ever made - stuff like that). At the end of level three, he was at a restaurant in Ames, Iowa, and I got SO excited because we lived in Ames three years ago. Then when I looked the restaurant up online, I learned that it is located DIRECTLY in our old back yard, but the restaurant opened after we moved. I was SO bummed.

One day I will be paid to fly places to eat food. One day.

I've heard of the show, but never seen it. I do like a lot of the Food Network shows.

I haven't heard of that show but we only have the basic channels and rarely watch t.v. as it is. gasp!

I'm leaning over to the netflix side though. I hear so many people talk about it.

You're funny. I watch that show sometimes. My favorite foody show is Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. I think he's the friendliest, most respectful of other cultures guy I've ever seen eating gross foods. It's awesome and you learn all about weird places.
Adam is also a good guy, though. I read a thing about him that at home he's a pretty careful eater, so he can handle all the crazy eating he does for the show.

I LOOOOVE the food and travel channels, if you can't tell.

I love that show. I have been watching it since it came on the air and rewatch shows even when I am bored. The only scary thing is that my husband wants to be like him and do almost all the challenges he does. Rick has attempted a 5 lb burger (didn't do it) and an almost equally big burrito (did it). I would never attempt ANY of those challenges. I don't want to have my stomach explode and I don't do spicy food but watching someone else do it is pretty funny.

I've been a cooking/food/travel show junkie since I was about 8 years old. I'll have to check out that series! Even Madelyn gets excited when she sees Ming Tsai and Lydia Bastianich (of Simply Ming and Lydia's Italy) on TV. She can recognize their voices, for crying out loud.
