Watch this David Letterman clip:
(Stupid commercial before the clip. Push play and then ignore the commercial while you finish reading the rest of the post. By the time you finish the rest, the real clip should be ready to go.)
I have decided I am in love with Jamie Oliver. And I am jumping on the Food Revolution bandwagon. He is committed to helping people in the United States of America fight obesity. I happened upon an episode of his tv show last week, and was amazed with everything he is trying to do to help us be healthier. He begins by cooking fresh food for school lunch in an elementary school. The kids are so used to processed food that they don't want the "yucky" fresh food. The six year olds couldn't even identify ANY vegetables in their natural state. Seriously, I am just glued to the screen in awe and disgust.
I am committed to doing what I can to help my family eat healthier. Jamie Oliver is my hero.
I just purchased his cookbook on Amazon.
TED gave him an award for his work. Watch this video and be blown away.
The second season of his show starts tonight on ABC.
Click here to sign his petition to support this revolution. (And to find out how many people in each state have signed the petition.)
Yay for eating healthier!! (Of course, I'm writing this the week of Aidan's birthday, which as you remember, includes chocolate cake. But I'm pretty sure calories don't count on family members' birthdays.)
(This post sounds like an advertisement. Sorry about that. In reality, I feel strongly about this subject, and wanted to share it with you.)

(P.S. I've got a blog post brewing. It's called something like "This Blog Sucks." We'll see if I get it written some time soon.)

I am so right there with you. my husband thinks the whole thing is a crock but I am totally on board.
I too, feel strongly about better nutrition in schools and life. We recently watched Supersize Me, Food Inc, and King Corn. Our food system is messed up and KILLING us.
I'm hesitant to send my kids to school for fear of the bad nutrition habits they will pick up. I work hard to make sure they know what good food choices look like.
I think I am morally opposed to anything healthy.
I love this guy!
I'm glad you mentioned this--I want to catch the show.
And can I veto that title for your next post? I would fully support something along the lines of "This Blog is Bitchin'" or "10 Reasons Why I'm Awesome."
Just sayin'.
'Kay. I'm watching. I'll let you know if I'm on board, too.
We watched that last season, too. I find Jamie Oliver to be a bit annoying, but I love his cause, so I watch. It can be pretty disgusting and amazing to see. Even though Calvin is my picky eater, I'm proud to say he rarely eats chicken nuggets, hamburgers, or mac n cheese (well, the box kind. We do the homemade kind, as you do).
Now, if I could only stop eating baked goods with lots of simple carbs!
Also, have you read Fast Food Nation? Wow.
I laughed so hard! HA! :) Thanks...
This is a great thing... I wonder where those kids live that don't recognize vegetables? weird!
I need to do better myself.
That is a good cause to be involved in! Unless you cut out refined ingredients, unhealthy oils, saturated fat and cholestrol as in animal products, then it's only drops in the bucket and a happy thought! If one really wants to be serious, check out The China Study by T. Colin Campbell.
I LOVE Jamie Oliver too. That show is awesome!
P.S. I wrote "This Blog Sucks" before: http://www.ninjapanza.com/2010/02/this-blog-sucks.html
It helped, I think. :)
I've just been reading a Jillian Michaels book along the same vein. It has me seriously rethinking how we eat. Going to read a few more. The one really difficult part is the cost, which makes me angry. We're going to try to plant a garden this year, too, which is hard up here, but we'll try!
I will check out Jamie's cookbook...I already liked him, so I'm sure it's great!
