Yesterday, I went to the nursery.
Now, if you know me, you would be thinking, "What nursery? Like, a baby nursery? Because surely Erin wouldn't be going to a plant nursery."
But if you really know me, you would know that as Enrichment leader, I am in charge of putting together Relief Society night. And they asked me to put together a night on herb gardening.
So, I found myself at a nursery yesterday to find out if there would be anyone willing to come and talk to our church group (no such luck, yet).
However, while I was there I decided to purchase rosemary because I have this knock-off recipe for Macaroni Grill's rosemary bread that is to die for (it is kind of this recipe with a few tweaks), and I wanted fresh rosemary for it.
I walked into the nursery and the first thing I saw was seeds. Perfect! I found a packet of rosemary seeds. Next, I needed a pot. I found a cute pot that I thought might be the right size, but I wanted to ask someone who worked there if it was big enough.
I found a nice woman who fastens her watch around the neck of her apron.
"Hi," I asked. "Do you think this pot would be big enough for a rosemary plant? And do you have a little bag of dirt I can purchase, just big enough to fill this pot?"
She very kindly smiled and asked, "Do you just want one rosemary plant?"
I said, "Yes."
She said, "Well, you could purchase an actual rosemary plant, instead of buying seeds."
I asked, "Oh, you sell those here?"
*Crickets chirping*
You see, it's a nursery. They pretty much sell everything there.
I pretty much started laughing hysterically, because I was so embarrassed.
She led me to the rosemary plant area, where they had at least one hundred starter plants. She chose a beautiful one for me (since I clearly don't have the mindpower to choose one myself), and said, "I will just go fill your pot with dirt for free. No worries."
(When I was telling Christian my story last night, he asked, "Did the woman ask you if you knew how to water the plant?" I laughed and said, "No, but I'm surprised she didn't.")
She filled the pot with dirt, rang up my $5.00 purchase, and cheerfully said, "Come again!"
Oh, she knows I will be back. Probably when I kill this rosemary plant.
(Mayyyybe I'm not the most qualified person to be teaching this Relief Society night activity? If I can't find someone, I'm in charge. Someone, please help me? Please?)

You're so cute, Erin. What a funny story:).
A server at Macaroni Grill told me there was no rosemary in the bread when I told her it was why I liked it so much. I told her, "I beg to differ. It's obviously rosemary". She just chuckled & shook her head at me. Silly server.
I've been thinking that I need to start growing my own herbs. Especially basil. I use it all the time.
I loved this post. So cute and funny!
And good luck with that calling - I was not well-suited for it when I had it in Ames.
Would the nice lady at the store like to teach the herb garden class?
Maybe if you go back and ask if they have any plants that will just produce one tomato?
I have a black thumb. I'm right there with ya, sister! I WANT to be a good gardener, I'm just NOT. Good luck with enrichment!!
And so it begins....The Parable of the Rosemary Plant. This will be fun to watch how it grows
My neighbors gave us a Lily and I killed it. My yard is full of plants that can care for themselves. I am with you. I know nothing about gardening. We are having a gardening activity with an "expert" speaking on Tues for Relief Society. Maybe I will get inspired. I doubt it.
The nice thing about Rosemary is that it is pretty dang hard to kill. I know this, because I have a black thumb, and it is the only plant that has ever survived under my watch. :)
I'm hoping that you have a smaller version of the GIGANTIC rosemary shrub that was in our backyard when we moved in. I didn't know that there were herbs that didn't fit in cute little pots! We ripped ours out, but I remember that it grew without any effort on my part, which is a blessing, right?! Happy gardening! I'm still trying to get up the energy to PLAN ours, let alone plant it or care for it!!
That is too funny. I hope you can keep it alive. I keep singing the song from the primary song book "the Lord told us to plant a garden so that's what will do..." and then I really hope that all I have to do is plant it because if he is going off of what we reap I am in big trouble.
LOL! I also have a black thumb!
I hope you do find someone! I bought some herb plants and they look SO CUTE in my windowsill...but I don't know how to use the herbs.
Oh Yum, that bread is one of my favorite things about hitting the Macaroni Grill!
I will have to try the quiche sometime. I am sure you made that ladies day-always good to laugh :)
Yum!! that quiche sounds delicious!
I love to put rosemary on pork chops :)
