The Birds and the Bees

As part of Aidan's bedtime routine, he likes to ask Christian questions. Stuff like, "Where does electricity come from?", "How do stars disappear?" and "How does food get made?"

Last week, he had already asked Christian a couple of questions, and at this point, was just stalling his bedtime as much as possible. Christian finally said, "Okay, let's do one more quick question."

Aidan said, "Hmmm... Okay! How are babies made?"

Christian said, "Well... that question takes a while to answer, so I'll just say that when a mommy and daddy love each other, they make a baby. We'll talk more later."

Last night, Aidan said, "I know how people get married."

Christian said, "Oh, yeah? How do they get married?"

(I was sitting there thinking, oh boy.)

Aidan said, "You get a piece of spaghetti, and each person sucks on one end. When you get to the middle, you are married!"

~~~~~~~~~~
Today, at lunch:
Christian: "Can you marry your sister?"
Aidan: "No! She's way too young. She's not 20 yet."
Me: "But can you marry her when she is 20 or 25?"
Aidan: "Yes."
Christian: "No, you can't. You can't marry your family at all."
Aidan: "Really? Why not?"
I love the innocence of children!
It took until my daughter was 5 1/2 to convince her that she DID NOT marry her cousin when she was the flower girl and he was the ring bearer in a wedding party.
So funny and sweet! I love that he asks questions every night. I think you should copy these stories and slip them into a card when he gets married. :)
And so it begins! :) Sounds like someone's been watching some Lady and the Tramp.
My sister gave my mom the silent treatment for a time when she was little after finding out that mom had already married dad and therefore SHE couldn't. :) I remember David asking about marrying Evie. Or, no, I think he just said that when he grows up he's gonna marry Evie. That's so cute. I just told him that they're already part of the same family and we get married in order to start a NEW family. :)
Those are cute stories! Keira was asking some questions right around the time the baby was born and I answered in very vague terms and she was mostly ok with it. I am dreading the day my vague answers aren't enough for her. Like she asked how the baby got out of me and I said I pushed really hard and she came out. She said "did it hurt?" and I said "yeah" and she just got wide eyes like I was crazy. lol. Not many questions after that one...
Ha ha ha ha. I keep wondering when the baby question will come. (We have gotten the marrying close relative question, though).
