Snow Day

Well, I just had a slight surprise/shock concerning how Ames works. It snowed 5 inches or so last night; it is really dry, powdery snow. I prepared Ethan for preschool, both physically and mentally (it takes just a little bit of coaxing every time he goes), took him to preschool...and there was no one there. The driveway wasn't plowed, and the door was locked. I was confused at first: is this Wednesday? I'm pretty sure it is a school day. Then I drove by the high school (which is around the corner) and there weren't any cars in their parking lot either. Apparently, today is a snow day, so school was cancelled. I didn't watch the news or listen to the radio this morning, so I had no way of knowing. The ridiculous thing is that the roads were just fine to drive on...yesterday morning there was very wet, slushy snow and it was really scary to drive in (it really was a big ice skating rink and I was wishing I hadn't gone to Wal-Mart when I was driving home in it). But apparently driving conditions don't actually have anything to do with whether schools close or not. Yesterday: one inch of slushy snow + very scary driving = go to school. Today: five inches of dry powdery snow + fine driving = cancel school. Go figure. So, the big question is, will I have Young Women's tonight? I guess I had better go make a phone call.

That's crazy. My friend in Michigan says EVERY day some school gets canceled for some reason--mostly snow, and it's really really wimpy snow she says as well. Crazy!

Erin, I was complaining about 2 weeks straight of rain. The grass is always greener in someone elses backyard. However, after reading your post I am grateful for the rain. Yes, yes, yes, you can visit anytime.
