Every morning, our kids come into our bedroom and want to snuggle with us for 10 or 15 minutes before we get up and start our day. There is only one problem.
We have a queen size bed.
A couple of mornings ago, the boys came in. Ethan went around to Daddy's side, and Aidan came around to my side. Christian and I were squished into the middle, Christian on his back and I on my side. After a few minutes, I realized my arm underneath me was falling asleep, so I had to move. I wriggled my way onto my back, and Aidan said, "Hey Mom, you are squishing me!" I looked over - he had at least 12 inches between him and the edge of the bed. And I had no breathing room whatsoever.
I think next time we purchase a bed, it's going to have to be a king size.
(Kristina P. blogged about the virtues of a king-size bed a couple of weeks ago. I only wish I had read that post 11 years ago!)

When Wade and I got married, he insisted that we get a king. He'd had a king since he was about 14. I didn't think we needed something so big. Thank goodness for it now. There are many nights/mornings that all 4 of us are in it. Brooklynn is just like Aiden and she is constantly saying that she has no room, when in reality I am the one that is crunched!
King beds are a necessity. We sold our king bed when we moved last January intending to buy a new one when we got back home. We were in our guest bed "queen" for 5 miserable months. I was beginning to not liking sleep. Erin if you have not bought a bed in 11 years it is so time to get a new one. You really do deserve a nice huge king size bed!
Pam
A King size bed is definitely the way to go...someday. Right now, if we had one, it would probably go wall to wall.
I would LOVE a King size bed but it wouldn't fit in our bedroom!
We can get the whole fam and the dog on our queen - I wouldn't want to sleep that way though.
I might consider buying a king - but that would mean all new sheets!
I love my king! I could never go back! :) We can fit all our kids on it somewhat comfortably. This is a good thing, since at least Chloe routinely ends up in bed with us. :)
I hear ya!! At least your kids are still little--add a 9-1/2 year old and a 6 year old and a 3 year old and me and my hubby (niether of us being small) in a Queen--good times!!
Jaren needs his space. He grew up with a queen to himself so when it came time to get a bed for his wife. He knew he wanted a King, since he had to share. It's funny when we sleep on a queen, "I have NO ROOM!" haha
Me too. I have the exact same problem
I love the someone out there shares the same pains as me. SO conforting.
That post really resonated with people. And there are only two of us, but I'm not even joking when I say it's the best purchase we ever made.
When our friends got married, I kept telling them to get a king, and they finally broke down and did it. They thank me everyday. :)
We lived with a measely (is that how that word is spelled?) full size bed for the first 7 years of our marriage. Shocking, I know. We finally got a queen one 3 years ago and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I almost cried myself to sleep the first night because I was so happy. I'm now kind of thinking that it's not quite enough.
happy birthday erin!!!
It's all about the real estate. Invest in a king size, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. =)
A king size is a must! I have three kiddos that love to cuddle in our bed and a King size bed isn't even enough. I am seriously thinking of getting a twin bed to slide in next to it, making an entire wall of bed!
Enjoy the virtues of a queen size bed. "I'm sorry, there is only enough room for me and daddy to snuggle. I'll snuggle with you in a few minutes on the couch." Then teach them how to turn on the tv so you can enjoy those 15 minutes alone. Mean? Probably. Honest? Yes. What most of you were thinking and not saying? Definitely.
I hear you! When we bought our queen size bed we thought it was huge and we'd never need anything else. Ha ha!
We have the exact same morning tradition and it's getting problematic as the kids get bigger!
hear, hear. i have post mattress buyinh remorse after settling for a queen. don't even care that it would take over my entire closet size excuse of a room.
We started out with a Queen size and upgraded to a King. I have never regretted it.
Me, too! Then try adding on 2 Beagles and a cat! Oye! ;0) Ah, what memories...very cute.
Amen Tiburon! New sheets would be a pain to buy. However when my husband is breathing on me in the middle of the night, it would be nice to escape to my side!
WE have the same dilema! All 3 kids are squished all around us every morning and there is NO room in our queen sized bed. We dream of a king.....
When we move in a few months, one of our first purchases in our new place is going to be a king sized bed. My parents have a few guest rooms at thier house and one has a king sized bed. When the whole family is going home at one time, it's like a race to get there first to get that room. hahaha.
Just enjoy the cuddles! we BEG Zoe to come into bed with us (especially on the weekends) and she will only come up to "be a monkey on the bed" which means to jump. No cuddlers here. But yeah, go for the king. Maybe even a California King since you are prone to tallness.
Absolutely needed. We don't have kids that do that anymore. But with hot flashes, I still need the King. It is on my wishy list. So funny Erin.
We had a queen size bed for about 10 years, then converted to king about 10 years ago--and I am soooooo glad! Maybe it's time you had an upgrade....
Blessings!
We have the same snuggle session each weekend. But yes it does get a little cramped. Lucky for us Ariah doesn't take up much room yet, but there are still always arms and legs found in random places!
Yup... when we were preggy with #4 we realized that 6 people wouldn't fit into a queen size bed --even for the morning snuggle. We upgraded. Now the kids are getting so big, they rarely want to climb in bed with us anymore... but the two of us have "grown" a little so we need the extra room anyway.
I have great wishes for a king-size bed. Before I was married, I used to say: "It seems mean to have a king-size when your married. You should always be near each other." Um...yeah, I don't think that anymore. It could even save a marriage, if it helps with the sleep situation. I say: get one when you can.
We had some insane idea that we could do the queen bed for a few years...we just replaced it with a king and will not be going back for all the same reasons....
Not that Susie wants to snuggle, Eli still does and I have to have kicking space!
We're getting ready to buy a king... space. I need my sleeping space!
