Do You Like Where You Live?

It seems that most people live where they do based on certain circumstances, and not just because they want to live there. You know, like you were raised there, or your husband (or you) got a job there. We live in a relatively small town, which is perfect for my husband. He loves the fact that he doesn't have a commute to get to work. He loves the mountains nearby, and there are many options for fishing, hiking, backpacking, biking, etc. I love it a little bit less, because I like larger cities where anything I want is at my fingertips. I am sure I will learn to love it more with time (at least, I hope so).

Do you like where you live? Do you live there because you want to, or for other reasons?

I live in Atlanta Georgia... we live here because my husband go a job. I like it. It's beautiful out here and the winter's are WAY mild. but I'd move back to the west soon. I miss my family and friends back there.

I LOVE where I live. We are suburbanites, bit time, but it works for us. We have access to the city in under an hour's drive, but we also have access to desert or mountains or even deserted mountains in under an hours drive. We are here by choice...just so happens we were able to find good employment in the place we wanted to be.

I think you already know the answer to that one.

I absolutely love where I live! I was born and raised here and have always had it set in my mind that this is where I want to be. All of my family lives here and I love the mountains and scenery. I don't think I could live in a place that isn't surrounded on all sides by mountains. Even when I go out of town I feel less ... protected? because I don't have the mountains all around me.

LOVE where I live. I miss Seattle like crazy - but it is fun to go and visit. It isn't the same city that it was when I was growing up. It has gotten SO big. SLC is perfect. I love my house and I love where (location) I live in the valley. Not a huge fan of my ward - but that is an entirely different subject.

I love where I love. Not because I couldn't live anywhere and most likely be happy but here, I am very attached to all the people I'm surrounded by. That makes a big difference to me, To Love you neighbors and the people you get to associate with. CV is awesome though for many reasons, mountains, seasons,I love it all.

I LOVE TOOELE, UT!!! We decided to move to Tooele 12 1/2 years ago for a few reasons:
1. Answer to a prayer!
2. To get away from the BIG city of Salt Lake and the drug dealers across the street.
3. The clean air. (not so much now).
4. Closeness to the mountains
5. Answer to a prayer!

I will blog some pictures of this BEAUTIFUL county later.

We live ONE block from the schools- both elementary and Jr High- do have any idea how great that is? I LOVE IT....

ALso, we are in an older neighborhood, but after swapping notes with friends in YOUNG neighborhoods with drama and hurt feelings and gossip, I would never change that!

I love the state, but sometimes dream of moving to another side of the country.

My sisters are close, and that is the best thing ever.

Totally other reasons Erin. My husbands job. We like it here. So close to everything really, but I prefer a more green and lush surroundings. It is desert. We have the Columbia River though. Which helps. And a cozy cabin in the trees. Which helps.

I live in the Eastern side of Washington State. Fun stuff.

No, I don't especially love it here.

BUT, it has its redeeming qualities, such as being a very artsy town. I think I would die if it was just a normal small town, the artsiness makes it totally bearable for me. I do like that everything is close, it's just that everything really isn't close because we don't even have a Target for Heaven's sake! :) But it's nice to know that I can get to anything in town in about 12 minutes, and I live way out, as you know. Living in Phoenix, driving time cut out a huge chunk whenever we had to go anywhere.

I like it here now. We live in the armpit town (as some people refer to it). BUT we bought the house from my inlaws and it appraised for $140,000 and they sold it to us for $90,000 and put an additional $6,000 down on top of our $8,000. Who could pass that up? Not me!!

I love it here. I love being near family, all of the friends I have here and the area is so beautiful. My husband doesn't like it as much as me unfortunately.

We live in Alaska because my husband got a job here. Who knew we'd end up loving this place so much?

The best/worst thing about it is being far away from family.

No no no no no. And yes. So kind of. I want to live in a different county to be closer to Que's work (and its a nicer county). I live in the county that I grew up in, but sometimes I don't like living SO close to everyone in our families (hahaha) and I don't like how the traffic is getting worse where I'm at.
HOWEVER, I love my house and I LOVE our ward, and we really like our LDS Family Services agency that we have right now. (If we moved we'd have to start over with a new agency) And we coudln't sell our house so I guess that was a sign that we shouldn't go anywhere right now anyway. So I'm stuck. But not really. LOL

I'm complicated.

I do like where I live. We're close to family and very close to my husbands work. He has around a 5 minute commute. Every once in a while we talk about what it would be like to move, but in order for my husband to stay in the same industry he's in now we would have to leave the state. His current employer is the only distributor for Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada of the products he specializes in. We don't want to leave and so I think we'll be here for life.

I live in Midvale, and for the post part I like it. I love the area, and I love our little condo, but I would like something bitter. We have felt very disconnected from our ward for a very long time, so that's one aspect I don't love.

My requirement for wherever we live is that there has to be a Target within 10 minutes. I'm not even joking. RIght now, it's 2 minutes away. Yay for Target!

We live here because we want to. We could live pretty much anywhere since our business is online, and we've pondered moving before, but we can't really come up with a place that's better. Our main requirement for where we live is to be close to family, and here we're almost equidistant from each of our parents. Second requirement is weather (we really don't like heat, and we're not big on extreme cold either) and most of the places we might move with better weather are too far away from family. So here we stay. We like it. Definitely wish there was more shopping, but I don't really miss any other big city stuff. Most of the "fun stuff to do" would be too expensive for us anyway.

Erin, I'm new to your blog, but I find it fascinating to read about your experiences in Poland. As for me, I live in the middle of the country wish lots of corn fields. I've lived all over the US, and have liked and disliked things about every place that I have live. The things I like about the midwest: people leave a party at 9pm, people are down to earth, not too much materialism, and harvest time has lots of fun activities going on.

Um, I'm going to have to put it out there and say no, I do not like where I live. I love my home and my ward, but I live in a section of town where a lot of people do NOT take care of their homes and yards. I'm a visual person and so when I see people not mowing their yards, watering their lawns and weeding them, and storing junk on their porch and even parking on their lawns, I want to scream. So when I drive home, I look straight ahead, and mouth how grateful for my little haven of a home!! I love my crackerbox house--all 1568 SF of it!!

Know what? We just moved here in August. Because we wanted to. We looked all over, and this was it.

Even after moving here, we love it. Small town, close to small capitol city. Great ward. Family (that we like) nearby. Kids are loving it. And hey, I've discovered other bloggers.

What a great discussion topic! The reasons why we ended up here (a small bedroom community about 40 miles east of San Francisco)(I love that I don't need to say what state) are immaterial. The fact that matters is that we love it, partly because it is 40 minutes east of San Francicso. We can visit when we want to, but when it goes down in a massive earthquake intended to destroy the wicked, we will be far enough away to avoid destruction (we just hope that we aren't there visiting the day it happens).

I LOVE our ward, but HATE our dwellings. We're here because it's all we can afford right now. Jake always talks about settling down in Cedar City. Maybe we'll be neighbors someday.

I like where I live, but I really LOVE where I grew up. So we'll see if we ever make it back that way.

On a side note, thanks for always commenting on my blog. For some reason, yours wasn't in my reader so I haven't been getting it. That will change now!

I love where we live...I knew that when I married Wade we would never leave the Heber area. It is a small town but it is close enough to some bigger cities that it doesn't really matter. We have EVERYTHING at our finger tips. AND it is a great place to have and raise a family. What more could we ask for?

I love living in SLC.But my husband wants to live in a bigger city. He wants to give California a try.

I have to say that I love Texas. It is one of the best moves I have made.

BTW, My laptop is indeed named after the laz-y-boy from friends. Great catch! Not too many people notice that.

Do I love where I live? Eh. Not so much. I have a really hard time with my ward, and it feels a lot like Mayberry. For reals.

I used to live near Kay Lynn in Northern Illinois... 60 miles from Chicago, 70 miles from Milwaukee and 50 miles from Madison. PERFECT!!

We live here for the husbands job... so I guess it will do. Until he can relocate us back to the Midwest. in like 20years.

I grew up in a large city in California where there were so many things to do and places to eat etc. After I got married my husband got transferred to a small town in Wyoming which has really taken some getting use to. We have to drive over an hour to get to civilization and decent stores as our little town only has a Walmart. However when I'm back in the city I hate the traffic! I guess you could say that I have come to love small town living and I enjoy raising a family here and as long as I can take an occasional day trip out of town to go shopping I'm good.

I really like where I live. We are here for school. It is very family friendly and there are tons of AWESOME parks here. We will miss it when we leave. But I would love to be back in Utah even more. I miss my family. But that will most likely never happen. :( I hope we like where ever we go next as much as we like it here.

We came here for a job, and for the hope we'd love it in a small town. Neil loves it and I'm...getting there. I love the beauty of the place, but I sure do miss having a proper mall about the place!

Even if it's really cold too much of the year. There's lots and lots of great stuff here in the Twin Cities.

I'm trying desperately to catch up on blog reading....

I'm so fancy that I live on an island. I love it most of the time. It is beautiful, and the weather is mild. Except when we have wind storms. You can take either two ferries or a bridge to get on the island. We are here because of the Navy. The shopping stinks which is no fun, but that's good for the wallet.

I love where I live, but I wish I had more shopping.. like better deals like old navy.. target..

We just moved to Arizona from Alaska for my husband's job and we LOVE it! There are so many things to do and see. Plus, we are only a few hours from my favorite place on earth... Disneyland! I am grateful for the experiences I had in Alaska, but I couldn't stand the cold, the dark, or the isolation. I love that it is the middle of November and I got a sunburn today. Whohoo heat! Love it!

Kathy P said...

Now is the wrong time to ask me... it is the middle of November and STILL 86 degrees outside.

the part of AZ I live in is brown, tan and dark brown. It only rains about once a year, the day after I wash my car. It is way too hot all the time and did I mention BROWN.

But, family is here. Our roots are here. And while we long for San Diego weather, we will stay here and raise our children close to those who love them.

i love it here! i moved to richmond kinda on accident, but it led me to paul...and my kids love it here. i never want to leave!

I'd have to say yes and no. I love my neighborhood and ward, I just hate that it's in this state. Most of our neighbors are from other places so that helps. It's beautiful and we love the mountains, but the weather is only nice 6-7 weeks a year. Also, there's a lot of extended family here that we'd rather live a little farther from.

Way more problems with drugs and mischief then we ever faced in Ca or NV, and we live in a "nice" area. My kids are pretty open about how stupid it is with all the kids they see playing both sides of the fence.

I love where we live in Mesa, AZ. We live in the old orange grove area and love it. The weather in aug and July is very hot but we have a swimmimg pool to rescue us. We are both a short commute to our jobs. Our kids (4 boys and one 3 year old fiesty redhead) love our schools and neighbors. We are very lucky to live in an area with some of the best schools and within walking distance. My husband's family help settle AZ so I have a feeling we are not leaving:)
