On the Second Day of Christmas I Posted on My Blog

TWO CHRISTMAS TREES

Our first two years of marriage, we bought real trees. Then we realized we lived in a hole, didn't have a lot of money, and just wanted to buy a mini fake tree and not have to bother with a huge tree. Okay, I cried a little because I missed the pine smell. But when you don't have any ornaments, a big tree isn't the smartest idea anyway. So for the next nine years, we had a tiny fake tree.

Then we bought a house. Just five months ago we purchased a house and moved halfway across the country. And where we live, we can purchase a tree permit and go chop one down ourselves...no, we didn't do that. We bought one from some guy who apparently goes into the woods, chops down tons and tons of trees, and sells them for 2 1/2 times what he pays for them.

I love the smell of fresh pine! And yes, that is a Thomas the Tank Engine train track circling our tree. Aidan wouldn't have it any other way.

When we moved from Iowa, I was sure we got rid of the small tree. We were tired of it! We wanted a fresh, full-sized tree in our brand new home! Well, after we bought the real tree, we came home and pulled out the Christmas box. Lo and behold, we found the fake tree! So I put it in our front entryway with a few cute decorations.

Love it Erin. We had a mini tree for years too. I love the train...weve tried to get our geotrax around our tree but the kids keep taking it apart.

Fun decorations! Smart guy to charge as much as he does to go chop trees down. I should do that.

I really like the 12 days of Christmas idea! I think that's great!

I am glad you were able to get a real tree again!

We had two for a while, because when we moved to AZ, we forgot part of our tree in my parents' basement and couldn't set it up. So, we bought a really cheap six footer for that year. I kept it and tried to put up two, but finally gave up and sold it in my garage sale this summer. :)

I also love the smell of pine. We had a real tree for quite a while and then when we built our dream house(the house before this one) we bought a fake 10 ft tree. I love it but I definitely miss the smell.

I love your trees :) I have never had a real tree before. My dad was allergic (or maybe he just told us that because he didn't like real trees). We had a friend that got a real tree, brought it home, and then found out it was infested with ants. Least to say, that has scared me away from real trees ;)

I love seeing everyone's trees. I burn candles to get that pine smell, ever since we stopped getting real trees. Gotta have that smell. Cute decorations.

When I was at home, we would actually have 3 trees: a fake one in the family room, real one in the living room, and a mini real one in the kitchen that my brother begged for and it became a tradition.

Love it Erin. Your tree looks like mine. Mine is Judy. Name yours Jack and we can have them a pine wedding. The little fake one could be their child. It all looks good Erin.

Trains go with Christmas trees like mint with chocolate. How fun! Yay for having a big beautiful REAL tree!

We gave in 5 years ago and bought an artificial tree. We've always had flocked trees and I sooo miss the flocked trees but not the mess! Your smaller tree is adorable! Have a Merry Christmas!

I like the fresh pine smell to but we have a fake tree so I have to light a candle.

Aw, I'm so happy that you finally get a real tree! I thought that little one was cool too, with it's little fiber optic lights.

I can totally relate to that living in a hole and having no money part. And there's something to be said for chopping one down vs. spending 4 1/2 hours "putting it together."

We are so going real next year. We've been "fake" for 4 years now & it's just not the same. Love the Thomas!!

I love the fact that you have a Thomas train going around the tree! I wish I had thought of that...we have one, but its an old metal one that is hard to keep under there with the kids around.

I love your real tree! But you can't leave the little tree out! You have to put it up every year for the memories!

Thanks for being yourself with all of us because I like you. I am glad that I am getting to know you.

For several years we had a hand-me-down fake tree that had limbs duct-taped on and had to be leaned up in a corner so that it wouldn't topple over. Amazing what we put up with when we don't have money to get anything else.
