On the Third Day of Christmas I Posted on My Blog

THREE FAVORITE SCRIPTURES

When I sat down to figure out what I would consider to be my three favorite scriptures, I realized that I was having a hard time. I mean, being Christmas time, how could I leave out the story of Christ's birth in Luke 2
? And I love the story of his baptism in Luke 3:21-22. But I have to be true to myself and post my personal three favorite scriptures.

The first one is in the Old Testament - Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths." I think I need this one tattooed on my forehead. Wait, scratch that - if it's on my forehead I can't see it all of the time. Okay, tattooed on my hand: lean not unto thine own understanding. You mean, I don't know everything? I don't always know what is best for me? I can pray and receive answers??

YES.

The second scripture is in the Book of Mormon. It is particularly meaningful to me because I am a mother and have children. It is Alma 32:23. The second half means the most to me, but I will type the entire verse: "And now, he imparteth his word by angels unto men, yea, not only men but women also. Now this is not all; little children do have words given unto them many times, which confound the wise and the learned. (italics added)" How many times have my kids said something that completely blows me away? I am so strengthened by their faith and their love. I think we all need to make the goal to be more like a child - humble, meek and loving.

My favorite scripture of all is in the Doctrine and Covenants. You know how once in a while a scripture will jump out at you and really really mean something to you at that moment? That happened to me with this scripture. It is D&C 6:22-23: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things. Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God?" Woah, it still gives me chills.

It gives me chills too. What a great idea! I love hearing about peoples favorite scriptures and what they may or may not have learned from them. One of my favorites is found in the Book of Mormon Alma 56:47-48: "Now they never had fought yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that they did not doubt God, would deliver them. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it.

I love the faith these mothers had in teaching their children to stand true and not doubt. These mothers taught these young men to trust in God, and these young men did. I pray I am teaching my children to trust in God.

All beautiful. The one from Proverbs is in my top 3 as well. But I often either forget it or ignore it. Silly mortal.

The B of M one is one of my favs, too. Kids are brilliant and profound and spiritual, even when they don't mean to be.

I just love the scriptures. The words sometimes hit me like a ton of bricks. I can read the same passage fifty times and get a different meaning out of it. Those were wonderful, thank you for sharing.
