Random Stuff and Some Tunes

I haven't seen any more ants in my house, thank goodness. After telling this story, I was reminded of the time I was eight years old and playing in the dirt pile by my best friend's house. We realized too late we were sitting on an ant colony, and we ran screaming into her house. Her dad ran into the living room to see what the commotion was...in his underwear. He worked the night shift and slept during the day, and my friend's mom was running errands. He was so worried about why we were screaming that he didn't bother throwing clothes on. I was so terrified of the ants crawling all over my body I certainly didn't care. (Although thinking about it as an adult is kind of funny.) I stripped my clothes off (except underwear) and my friend and I jumped in the shower to get the ants off. I think I only got a couple of bites. And frankly, I'm surprised I don't have a real fear of ants after that experience.

My husband loves Cabela's. I mean LOVES the outdoor super store. We use their credit card, and we have a good system for our budget - we charge everything on our credit card, and pay it off at the end of the month. That way we get all of the points that add up quickly to purchase items in their store, and we never pay interest. We have gotten LOTS of free stuff this way.

Anyway, my husband attempted to use his card at the grocery store last week. It was declined, and when Christian asked the cashier what was going on, she said it was declined because of "suspicious activity." As soon as he came home, he called the number on the back of the card. Bless their hearts, the credit card people closed his card because they had noticed suspicious activity within the last 24 hours. They went through his statement one by one and there were four or five big item purchases made, including this: "Have you opened an iTunes account in the last 24 hours and purchased {obscene amount} of music?" Um, no. All of the charges were pending. They changed his credit card number, closed that account, and took all of the charges off. I never even saw the questionable charges on the statement online. Thank you Cabela's for paying such close attention!

(P.S. My husband asked them what he could have done to prevent this, and the guy told him there is absolutely nothing he could have done. It could have been a cashier who swiped his card at a store who then stole the number, or any number of things. Lesson learned: keep a close eye on your credit card statements.)

My husband is now the Young Men's president. Lucky boys in our ward! My husband is awesome. (I'm not partial or anything.)

I don't cook meat; I burn meat. All of those warnings of "make it 160 degrees so you don't get salmonella" entered my brain full force when I was young. I have never cooked chicken to perfection. It is always dry and chewy. And last night for dinner, we had spaghetti and charred balls of what used to be ground beef. Anyone else have this problem?

Now for some tunes. I have 874 songs (yes, I'm a tad obsessed with music) in my "Erin" playlist. These were the first 10 to pop up: (I linked up with Motherboard)
1. And So It Goes - Billy Joel
2. That's All - Genesis
3. Everywhere - Michelle Branch
4. Water Song/Janie's Got a Gun - Aerosmith
5. More Than a Feeling - Boston
6. Somebody - Depeche Mode
7. Hurt - Christina Aguilera
8. The Unforgiven - Metallica
9. Fear - Sarah McLachlan
10. If God Will Send His Angels - City of Angels soundtrack

Thanks for the heads up on watching our credit cards. My son had some weird stuff going on with his debit account last year and what a mess to get things straightened out! It's a crazy and dishonest world out there at times and makes me sad that others have to do this to innocent people.

Congrats on your hubbies new calling. A great young men's president is priceless in today's generation. These boys need good role models for sure!

I don't cook meat very well, either. I can never get it just right.

And that's very cool about your husband (YM), but we all know that you'll share half that burden. Bless you.

Hooray for Cabela's. I love that place, too---but not like my brothers, or your husband apparently:)

I really love the Christina Aguilera "Hurt" song. I maybe cried when I saw the video. Seriously, have you ever watched it---cuz it's definitely sad. Or maybe I'm just a baby.

Glad that was caught so quickly, that is scary! I have trouble with chicken too. It is just hard to get it really good. Plus whenever I cook something with meat it seems to take way longer than anyone else cooking the same thing. Maybe I should defrost it a little more thoroughly ;)

I love these random ipod songs. I must say that every time you post some, I look through and always have atleast half of the same songs on my ipod! We have very similar taste in music, who knew?

Once Steve had to go out of town on a rare business trip his card only left his line of sight once the entire trip and someone got his number and charged almost $3000, luckily it was a business account and they got everything taken care of. I learned though that if you want to call someone at a prison it is $106 for about 4 minutes (they made 4 phone calls).

I do an okay job cooking most meats. Except meatloaf. I'm always afraid that it won't be done in the middle and so I end up cooking it for too long. The edges are crispy and the middle is great. I guess that means I get it half right.

We had a similar experience w/ someone stealing my husband's Costco card number (for some odd reason, our card numbers are different, but they go to the same acct). He hadn't BEEN to Costco in weeks, but somehow the number got taken, there was suspicious activity, and they alerted him. Yay for companies that pay attention!

You cook meat the way my hubby likes it....not even a trace of pink in it.

I cook meat the other way around. Probably not done enough. I LOVE me some rare burger and steak.

Glad your ants are gone. That is too funny about your friends dad running out in his underwear!

And we had a similar experience with our Citicard except it was the place where they used the card that called us. Someone had purchased two Wii sysytems from The House of Wii and were having them shipped to a different address so the company call us to see if it was legit. Nope. We put a fraud alert on all our cards and Ty enrolled us in LifeLock. There were a few more purchases made after the Wii incident that were smaller but had addresses where the stuff was being sent. Citibank did nothing with that info. They weren't going to follow up or anything! So we closed our account.

Now that I've rambled on and on and on and on... I'll let you get back to your normally scheduled comments....

When we were first married, and really poor, we had credit cards call us for that too.

Now that we buy crap all day long at 7-11, no one calls anymore.

A few years ago we had a random charge for like #500 on our credit card to smashbox cosmetics in CA. Superman thought it was real and that I had actually spent that much on make-up! We called and got it taken care of, though. Whew.

I have no iPod and so I use playlist.com. you can only have 200 songs on a playlist! It's just not enough.

My inlaws are big lovers of Cabela's. We take our kids there for outings all the time. My father in law is a wildlife artist and Cabela's invites him out to their grand openings to sign prints for the customers. Next time you're there you'll have to go check out the art.

So glad the ant problem has subsided. I hate feeling squeemy.

Well, as I said before, I have a severe fear of ants after that little incident.
I'm surprised you don't!

Good thing they watched your card. That's really good! Could've been a lot of trouble there.

My credit card company suspended my card when someone stole it and used it to purchase gas. They knew that I didn't own a car. Smart peeps. They called me about it before I even noticed my purse was missing. I was pretty darn impressed.

I find baked chicken pretty simple. One hour at 350 turns out perfect for me every time. Don't get me started on ground beef though...ugh...

It has taken me years to find a happy place when it comes to meat. I'm with you. I always worried that it wasn't cooked enough. Just recently (after lots and lots of dry meat) I have finally managed to reach the just cooked enough but without going overboard (occasionally. but that's better than never, right?)

My husband loves Cabelas too! That happened to us with one of our cards. I caught a charge in Holland! But the company was great about taking it off.

I think you and I could be music twins. Every list you post is one that I've got most of or am saying OOH! I need to get that!

I do the same thing you do with the credit card, only mine is Juniper. I have a $50 gift card from Red Lobster on the way for my points. I charge groceries, restaurants, any shopping I do. Everything I can.

And I LOVE that credit cards do this now. The only problem is, iTunes gets penalized. But maybe they'll be more careful about verifying those who try to buy music through them? I wish the person who stole the number could somehow be found and prosecuted but they'll rarely go to the trouble. I found that out when my card was stolen by someone I worked with. I knew who it was and still nobody would do anything about it.

We had a young criminal steal our number once at a local hardware store and pay for lots of fun stuff. Good for that card company for finding it!

Working with the youth is the best calling in the church! Best of luck to your hubby.

The first thought reminded me of the day my friend and I were playing outside when a bee flew up my underwear. (I think I was wearing my sister's that were a few sizes too big.) Yes, I screamed. A lot. My mom ran out and pulled down my pants and underwear right in front of my friend. I. was. mortified. And, I am still scared of bees!

Hubby is a Cabela's fanatic too. When we lived in KC we were there it seemed like once a week. It's good that did that with your card!!

We are a Cabela family! Love the camo!

Credit card junk is awful. Good thing you have them looking out for you. I think the meat thing is funny. I usually have about four cuts in the meat from checking to make sure it is done, but not too done. I can't stand dry meat, but I tend to over cook it way to much for the same scared reason. Good luck to your husband!

Congrats to your husband on his new calling. I am sure he will do great. I am sorry I haven't been on lately to comment on your blog, life has been crazy. I love your posts.
