Sickness, Nerdiness, Ice Cream and Tunes

For the last two weeks, I have had to wake Ethan up every weekday morning at 7:50 to get ready for school and to get on the bus at 8:20. School must really exhaust him.

And, for the last two Saturdays, he has woken up at 6:40 AM, ready for the day to start.

What's that saying about karma? Because I'm pretty sure I did this to my parents growing up too.
~~~~~~~~~~
Ethan has an ear infection. Aidan has a fever and a cold. Poor kids. (And I'll whine for just a second - poor me. Okay, whining over.)
But let me prove to you how much I love my children: Last night, I went to get some ice cream. My favorite is mint chocolate chip. I put the container of mcc in my cart, and then I realized that with Aidan being sick, ice cream may be one of the only things he would actually eat. And he HATES all things mint flavored (including toothpaste). So I took it out of my cart and chose cookies & cream, my second favorite ice cream.
The things we do for our kids :)
~~~~~~~~~~
I went to the eye doctor yesterday to get a new prescription for glasses. To make a very long story short, I am wearing contacts for a month, and then will either choose to continue with contacts or order glasses at that point. Now, here's my problem: my ears are crooked in relation to my eyebrows, so when I wear glasses they always look crooked. Contact lenses scratch my corneas (at least they have in the past; even soft lenses scratch them). And I found out I am not a good candidate for Lasik because of some weird issue I have. So what do I do? Gouge my eyes out with a spoon? Walk around blind for the rest of my life? Look like a nerd with crooked glasses? Ugh.
~~~~~~~~~~
Christian loves to tease me about something.
I don't like wearing ultra-low rise jeans. Or shorts. Or underwear. Or anything low rise. I feel too exposed. Well, he noticed one time that my pants were actually quite high, and mentioned this. My response? "My pants fall up. I can't help it." He howled with laughter. "They fall up? UP?!" Well, my waist is smaller than my hips. They DO fall up. Do any of you have this problem? Or am I just proving my nerdiness right now? Me, with my crooked glasses and my pants that just about reach my armpits...
~~~~~~~~~~
For Monday's post, I am going to attempt to use a McLinky if anyone wants to do a For Just One Week and link up with my blog. You guys have come up with some great ideas yourselves, so if you want to do something For Just One Week with me starting on Monday, start thinking about it. If my attempts to post a McLinky don't work, I will just add your names and links to the end of the post on Monday (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works).

Better up than down on the pants thing. BELIEVE ME!!!!
And I also hate EVERYTHING mint flavored! Aidan and I are such twins!

Kristina P. said...

I would have bought both kinds of ice cream and would have eaten both cartons all by myself.

Some days I have to drag my kids (literally) out of bed to get to school on time. On days off they're up at the crack of dawn. It's a universaly thing and I don't get it either.

I buy Mid Rise jeans because they're not too low and they not so high they reach your armpits. They're somewhere inbetween.

You are a good mom. I would have kept the MCC in the cart and then got some cheap generic stuff for the kid.

You scored today.

Good work, you are a great mom and I like the idea of linking up to you. See ya next week. Have a good weekend.

I bet it will work, just be warned in your typed post it won't really look like anything is there (when you preview it) but then it will magically be there when it is posted.

I like my pants higher too as I have a long body and so shirts are barely long enough as it is.

Desta said...

Erin you crack me up! Sorry about your eyes. If I couldn't have mine lasered I would probably gouge them out. Have you seen the SNL commercial for "mom jeans." If not, go to YouTube right now and look it up.
I haven't watched Survivor yet, have you? James didn't get home until 11 pm. Hopefully we'll have better luck tonight!

Wow I want to transfer Caleb to Ethan's school. He is up at 7 on the bus by 7:30 and school starts at 8. Good luck with the glasses. Mine are always crooked too and my eyes do not like contacts. luckily I don't have to wear glasses full time (yet)

Ha ha ha! You're so funny! I love when you make me laugh! I never noticed crookedness in your glasses. At all. I hope your corneas will have callused and be able to wear contacts.

I'm sorry you're pants fall up. My waist is smaller than my big hips (when I'm not 5 months pregnant) yet gravity still pulls my pants downward. I don't like my pants high... So we're just different in that way! ;) But girl, wear your pants how you like 'em!!

I hope your boys get better soon...for their sake and yours!

Ever seen the skit on SNL about "mom jeans"? You need to find it on hulu or youtube and watch it! Heeelarious! I think it just depends on how you are built, because I much prefer a lower rise, but not too low.

I just went through a month of 'tying' contacts. It sucked- but I really wanted to ditch the glasses. I cried about the contacts not fitting just right, and my husband called me a quitter. It's his fault I suffered for 6 weeks in contacts when I could have just picked new glasses on day one. Pheww! That's my story.... I say enjoy your crookedness. And your none low-waisted pants. I don't know about everyone else, but g's are just not cool to be hanging out of the top of your pants- and don't kid yourself, they do sometimes, regardless of how long your shirt is. :)

My pants fall up, too - being tall doesn't help, either.

Although right now, the preggo bump makes pretty much EVERYTHING lowrise ....

Hope your boys feel better soon. The pants falling up comment made me laugh:)

Mint chocolate chip is my fav too...mmm...I want some now.

If you have any eye related questions just email them to me and I'll ask my huby for ya. He has an open door policy for all my friends - isn't he sweet? That's crummy about having sensitive corneas though. I got a bad scratch once and it hurt SO badly.

Laurie said...

I would have bought both kinds and ate my favorite after the kids go to bed.

And glasses are actually very chic, at least that is what I have been told before.

Hope your kids feel better soon and you too. I drag my boy out of bed too. So good luck with that one.

Ooh-fun idea to do the McLinky. I have a few that I hop on sporadically...I think I'll have you make yours one of them:)

I'm with you---low rise jeans aren't that great. Who wants to worry about holding their shirt down every time they bend over or sit down?

I'm sorry your boys are sick! I hope they start feeling better SOON! Gotta love school..it brings home all the gunk!

By the way..you crack me up. Your pants fall up? I wish I had that problem!

I hope the boys feel better soon!

I have crooked ears so my glasses always have to be adjusted, so I feel your pain there. Thankfully, I am in love with contacts so I rarely have to worry about it. I laughed out loud at the pants comment. I prefer low rise jeans and then find the longest shirts possible. I am sure that my garments hang out way more often then they should. That is better than skin though. :)

Unknown said...

Just to edit, since you don't see me often, not really low low rise. Just mid low rise. I don't have any plumber issues going on.

Just clarifying. :)

You are such a great Mom to get the secondary ice cream in lieu of your kids. I probably would have gotten both. Problem solved.

(your glasses look straight in your profile pic!)

Lara Neves said...

I have the same crooked glasses problem. I am not sure why, but they are always crooked I'm not a candidate for Lasik, either, and ever since I had kids my contacts really bother me if I wear them more than once or twice a week. I guess we can go gouge our eyes out together. I just deal with the crooked glasses and wear contacts on the days I don't really want to be perceived as a nerd. How's that?

My pants totally fall up. And now I wear a mid-rise, and that seems to fix the issue. But I do have to make sure my shirts are long enough. I'd prefer a higher rise, but fashionably, that just won't work anymore. :)

I'm in so much trouble. I used to never buy ice cream but it's such a good motivator to get my kids to eat dinner. Now I eat it all the time. Haha. You're such a good mom!

I love contacts (because with my glasses I always feel like someone is knocking them off my face) but thats gotta stink to have them scratching you all the time. Good luck figuring all that out.

Thanks for the heads up on the FJ1W! I've been interested in trying something so now I'll have to really think about it.

I love mint chocolate chip, but Mark isn't such a fan. So, obviously we end up each getting our own carton. We are great problem solvers that way.

It's very rare that I find glasses/sunglasses that fit me.
They're always ridiculously crooked.
One time I put on a pair, and no joke, one of the lenses was on my forehead. They were THAT crooked.
I think I have crooked ears.

LisAway said...

Back when waist high jeans were the thing mine fell up, too. :) And there are probably 45 reasons I hate low rise jeans.

You are truly amazing to get the cookies and cream. And to take care of sick kids. Go Erin!

(and I've missed reading you!)

Christine said...

Lol, how NOBLE of you to buy your SECOND favorite ice cream!

I've never noticed your glasses looking crooked, and that's something that I would notice.

The pants falling up thing is hilarious! I know what you mean!

Jessie said...

I did the SAME thing with the ice cream just last week! Calvin does like mint, he just super loves cookies and cream, and I had to put back my butter pecan as I thought of his face light up for c&c.

Everyone's eyes are crooked! It's really not such a big deal...plus, you're so darn cute, you can pull off anything.

Pants. They are a huge problem for me. I'm very curvy (even when I'm thinner) and my torso is long (as you well know), so low-rise pants are a major no-go. But it's oh so hard to find pants that fit right. I don't think I've had a pair fall up yet, but I totally know what you mean.
You can tell Christian that my guitar goes out of tune up (as in, instead of going flat, it mysteriously goes sharp. It's been proven - how weird is that?)

OK...this is LONG.

Devri said...

I admit.. I am a low rider. lol love the pants falling down story.. My pants fall down no matter where they lay, I have no butt.. So I just prefer them down.lol I just wear my g's down too!

You are beautiful no matter what you decide, ok maybe not if you gouge them out! lol

My kids can't drag themselves out of bed for school. They are too tired to spit even while driving them there...

Yet, on the weekend -- BRIGHT AND EARLY!!! Like clockwork! C'Mon -- sleep in people!!!!

Stephanie said...

I just want to say I feel your pain on the kids' weekend hours.

And my children would think I was goddess if I bought ice cream at all. (I stopped after it would disappear faster than I even got to taste it.)

Mint gives me a headache and then I throw up

Heather of the EO said...

I do get the pants falling up thing, just so you know.

Secondly, my eyes and ears are all wonky too. So my glasses are always all crooked. Annoying.

Stephanie Faris said...

They can actually adjust your glasses so that they fit your face perfectly. Just make sure you get them from a good place that measures everything and makes sure it's the right fit for you.

Rachel Sue said...

I'm with Kristina. I would have bought two. . .

And, I am so with you on the low rise thing. I cannot tell you how happy I was when Old Navy came out with their different rise pants. I think it's the sweet heart that I like--just right!

(I only have the falling up problem with skirts.)

Such great little tidbits!

I hate high rise pants, they squeeze in all the srong places, my hubby laughs at the way my undergarments go up higher than my jeans waistband somedays. I just say "that's why I am wearing a long shirt! Don't look if you don't like it, but I guarentee you DO NOT want me in Mom Jeans!" (search on youtube if you haven't already.)

Those low pants drive me nuts too. I know I look outdated in high waist ones but that is the price I'm willing to pay.
