And So it Begins

Aidan (our four year old) is learning how to spell.

He loves having us say a three letter word (hat, dog, pig, etc) and having him spell it out.   He gets it right almost all of the time.  It's so cute watching him figure out how the letters make sounds, which turn into words.

I noticed something yesterday on the fridge that he did all by himself.  I was impressed with the fact that there weren't enough A's so he came up with using an upside down V in a pinch.

I wasn't as excited about the other word he chose to spell, right above the ultrasound picture of the baby:

I guess the silver lining in this cloud is that he spelled it right...

Your kids are so stinking smart. You probably don't even need a college fund for them because they will get scholarships. And graduate when they're 15.

Proof again: You have boys.

Well, at least it wasn't the swear word version.

Lol! That is awesome. And yeah, he is a boy :)

That is so awesome! What a smart little guy. Hey, he's writing about the pertinent things in his life...himself, his brother, and poop.

Sage asks us to spell everything for her. How do we get it to go the other way?

Stephanie said...

My emerging spellers like to write letters back and forth saying things like,
"Dear Grant,

Poop

From Clark"

And then they laugh hysterically.

Maybe your kids and mine can be pen pals.

Uh, can you spell genius for how your 4 year old took the V and made it an A?

I have some college kids that work for me that might not have that type of "making it work" mentality.

And poop. Chuckle.

Genius and a good sense of humor. :)

Maybe he is just reminding you that babies poop a lot. :)

Oh! This is such an exciting stage! What a smarty. And the v for the a? What a clever kid. And the poop? What a boy! :)

Wow-writing words on the fridge is pretty dang impressive! Good luck with this kid in a few years:)

He is a boy, after all. :)

I have three brothers, and that's all they ever talked about. Even at dinner. Sigh.

I can't even think of a good name that rhymes with poop. It is amazing that he can spell poop!

Exactly what is it with kids and the word "poop"? My kids think it is the funniest thing. They use it as an answer to any question when they are trying to be funny. "Brooklynn, what did you eat a lunch today at school?" "Anniston, what color is your hair?" Seriously...poop????

My boys have become obsessed with the word within the past week. I've tried to nip it in the bud....

It's just too funny that he did it right about the ultrasound pic.

We have that same Leap Frog alphabet thingy. We love it. It's provided hours and hours of entertainment.

I'd take poop any day over the swear version of that word. Although they've never actually spelled it out, with my luck, my kids would spell out the swear one.

Man, my five year old still doesn't know all her letters! lol

Aren't you glad you snapped a picture to immortalize the moment?

I love it.. Tyson is starting to figure words out too.. Im sad no longer spelling stuff

It takes a lot to get me to laugh out loud. I'm more of a small chuckler. But let me tell you....I saw that and laughed so hard and loud. What a funny kid you got there. I'm still laughing!!

I love the other word he chose to spell and I giggled when I read it. It just means that he is a boy. They are all like that, but I am probably used to it so it's not so shocking for me.

I'm way impressed he used the V too. My kids could never spell out their names with those letter games because both my girls have 3 a's in their name and usually they only come with 2.

Ha! He spelled poop. Cute.

HAHA- he is just getting you used to the thought of dirty diapers again :)

I used to tell my preschoolers that if they wanted to use "potty words" then they had to go sit in the bathroom until they could think up a better word to use.

Phonics works! :)

That's hysterical! Boys are so boys!

It's great that he can spell names, though! That's really good!
Poop... ahahaha.
I'm sure it wasn't SUPPOSED to go with the picture. Just a coincidence.

I vividly remember reading billboards in the car when I was learning to read/spell...until there was an advertisement for a strip club. I was told I didn't need to read those anymore :o)

Snort! What a smart little critter- you're in trouble!

Boys and the poop word:) Even my 14 year old thinks it is as funny as the 6 year old. And he spelled it right:)

Hey, we have those letters too! I can't remember what it's called. I'm thinking See 'n Say, but I'm pretty sure that's what we had when I was a kid.

My 8 year old has taken to writing letters and lists. And of course, she spells everything herself. It's so cute. The other day she wrote a list of things she's thankful for. I should scan it in and post it, but my favorite word was:
idfenchers. It took me like 10 minutes trying figure out she meant adventures. So cute!

Angela Nazworth said...

Oh that is adorable!!! He's a smart boy...and yes...good job on the spelling. :-)

Hahahahaha.

I'm surprised my 5-year-old doesn't write that all the time. She surely says it all the time.

"Poop O U." Very interesting. Hmmm.
