A One Sided Conversation...

...wherein I tell you what's going on in my life and you act like you are interested.

My birthday was lovely, thank you for asking.  Christian took the day off and spoiled me rotten.  He made breakfast, cleaned the house, played with Aidan while I took a 90 minute nap, went out for dinner, and went on a date that night.  I couldn't have asked for a better birthday.  Well, besides the fact that I was nauseated most of the day and couldn't even eat the Garden House soup I wanted for lunch because the thought made me sick.  I must say, I love it when my birthday lands on Friday the 13th.

Christian asked Aidan how old I was and he said, "28?"  Bless you, child.  (I'm 33.)

I had my 12 week doctor's appointment today, and we heard the heartbeat.  They also did an ultrasound and we were able to see the face, body, and arms and legs.  It doesn't look like a miniature turkey anymore (like in the last ultrasound pic). Yay!  Even though I'm still spotting, I feel much less worried now that I have heard and seen the heartbeat (and now that the first trimester is almost over).

Have I publicly admitted on my blog that I am a Gleek?  (Or is it gLeek?)  I love the tv show Glee.  My mother in law may or may not have given me a cd of the Glee cast songs for my birthday, and I may or may not have squealed with excitement when I opened it.  And it may or may not have already been listened to six times in the last three days.  Anyone else out there a gleek?

Ethan has to have tubes put into his ears.  Again.  For the fourth time.  (For those of you who don't know, this requires surgery at the hospital.) This time they are putting in T-tubes, which are semi-permanent, meaning they stay in until the doctor takes them out in the office.  The poor kid - as soon as the tubes fall out, his ears fill with fluid and he can't hear very well again (and they get infected).  We hoped he was okay this time, because of his age, but the doctor said some kids never grow out of it.  Ethan may be one of those unlucky few.  So, this Thursday he will be going in for surgery, and keeping these tubes in for a couple of years.

I'm still sick.  Nauseated, sick of eating all of the time, bloated, breathing deeply in hopes that the yuckiness will go away.  I have been muchly absent in the blog world, and I certainly understand if you don't feel like commenting because I haven't been around.  I'm hoping I come out of this fog soon.

One last thing - now that my birthday is over, Let The Holidays Begin!
(To my 710 Christmas songs in my iTunes holiday folder - I'm talking to you!)(Yes, I'm obsessed with Christmas music.)(Don't judge.)

I'm glad you had a Happy Birthday despite the feeling sick part. You deserve it...the good birthday, not the feeling sick.

I hope things continue to go well with your pregnancy. And I'm jealous of your Glee music.

I need to get that CD!

My brother had to have tubes put in his ears constantly as a child.

Glad you had a great birthday!

I'm ALWAYS interested. I'd much rather read what's going on in your life than get the kids ready so we can go out and get the cheese I forgot on Saturday but so desperately need for dinner.

Glad you had a great birthday and got some new pictures of your offspring. Hope you feel better eventually, if not soon.

PS. Total Gleek, though I guess not as much as I thought since this is the first time I've heard the term.

So glad you had a great birthday! All you cousins having babies is giving me some serious baby fever! Not yet though. I am giving it some time! I hope you start feeling better soon. So glad you have some peace of mind after hearing that heartbeat. That is the best sound in the world! So happy for you all around!

I'm so with ya on the nauseated thing. It's not fun. Although! I got a sample from my doctor for these little candies, and I didn't feel awful for like 5 hours after I ate one! They're called B-natal lozenges (green apple lozenges or cherry suckers). You have to ask the pharmacist for them, but they're not prescription. My husband's at Target right now getting me some!! Because I've felt yucky for like a month straight.

Anyway, I'm glad you had an awesome birthday! And bummer about Ethan!!!

Gleek - I LOVE that word, and would be a fellow Gleek, as well. :) I don't have the CD but we watch the YouTubes over and over and over and...you get it. Glad your birthday was great and hoping your sick is over SOON.

Happy Belated Birthday! Congrats on your 12 week appointment!
I love Glee too! I am a GLeek!!!
Sorry you aren't feeling well. Hang in there and go Listen to some Christmas Music!!!

710?!??! I'm impressed! (Is that judging?) I so feel for you! I hated being pregnant, pretty much hated all of it except for a few month in the middle when I actually felt pretty good and somewhat productive. Happy Belated Birthday!

I have a friend who will be 40 soon, and if she doesn't have tubes in her ears she just can't hear because of the fluid. I suppose it's good that the option is there!

Happy Birthday on Friday! I had it written on my calendar, but I forgot to email you. Such a bad friend I am.

You'd think I would like Glee, but, I just don't get it. I mean, I get it. But....whatever. I'm offending everyone probably. I did like the music. It was the storylines that left me thinking wha?

Jessica G. said...

Glad to hear the Birthday was good!

But ugh...I am soooo not ready for Christmas music!

I am also a fellow Gleek :o)

Ear issues are never fun, for the parent or the kid. I hope all goes well, and this will be the very last placement!!

Isn't nausea the worst thing ever!! I'm in my 21st week & still having to take Zofran to keep food down. I pray yours will subside VERY quickly.

I can totally relate. I was sick the whole 9 months with both pregnancies. I remember trying to breathe deeply too.... Good luck and I'll be here whenever you are

It also has to help that I am a big fan of if you give a mouse a cookie series. Great header for a blog, wish i would have thought of it sooner before you. Ah well. CLuttered Brain works well for me. :)
Glad you had a good birthday! I love the holidays too!! YEAh!

I am glad that you had a good birthday. Were they able to give you any medicine for all the nausea that you are having? I hope that you start feeling better soon. I am so happy for the both of you. It is always so fun to see the heart beat and see the ultrasound of the baby. Congrats.

I had tubes twice. The second time they didn't fall out their own and I had to get them surgically removed when I was fourteen. My sister had the same problem and her eardrums were fixed with a gel patch. My right ear drum had to be patched with a skin graft from behind my ear. Crazy, right? Anyway, I'm still glad I had them because the ear infections were a NIGHTMARE. So much better with the tubes! (And the patching surgery wasn't that bad.)

Kristen said...

I am so glad that you posted today I was thinking that I should email you privately just to check on you and worried that the spotting meant something bad. I am actually glad that you are feeling sick because that means your HCG hormones are up and that equals no miscarriage. Sorry that I am glad that you feel so yucky but I say it out of love (0; I hope the sicky feelings start to taper off but I am glad that you got to see the baby and that everything looks good.

Jen said...

Love the update! I warned Christian to be wary if the doctor hid you behind a screen during the ultrasound and wouldn't let him see your stomach...

Katie said...

Glad you had a fun birthday! I am so ready for Christmas...I might even start decorating this week.

I think I remember my nephew having to have tubes put in his ears when he was really little. It may have been his nose though... I just remember tubes and surgery.

Karen Mello Burton said...

That does sound like the perfect date. And so sorry about the tubes. I don't know how in the world my kids escaped them.

Come on over to my blog for some Christmas music. Every Monday for the next 5 weeks!

I am glad you had a wonderful birthday. And I am glad that you and the babe are doing well. I hope you will get feeling better though. And I hope that little guy of yours will do better with these new tubes in his ears. Take Care! And for the record, I do miss your daily blog posts and hope you will be able to return soon.

Happy birthday!

I'm sorry you're feeling nauseated. I hate, hate, hate that feeling (it usually lasts about 14-16 weeks for me.) But glad to hear so far everything's looking good for the pregnancy.

Cranberryfries said...

I need a cd (or a few) of all of your christmas music. I'm stuck with the bad clock radio in my room that plays fuzzy music.

Sounds like a fab birthday! What a fun day and fun presents. I watch Glee too but hardly admit it after hearing my friend get completely reamed (is that a word anyone else uses?) out for watching such awful crap on tv. Eek. But yes I love it too!

So glad you got to hear the heartbeat and see the little baby! It's awful wondering every day. And not just everyday but a million jillion times throughout the day.

I'm so glad your birthday was good, lady. You've got a LOT going on right now, and I'm SO appreciating your attitude about scary good things.

You're inspiring, Erin.

I am so sorry to hear about Ethan. Stan still gets ear infections ALL THE TIME! He had so many tubes put in his ears growing up. It wasn't until about five years ago he had his tonsils out that it finally made a difference. Stan is finally getting over ear infections in both ears at the same time. Stan also takes antihistamine every day to help prevent the infections. I hope that never happens to ethan.

Happy birthday by the way.

ummm LOVE GLEE!! Justin and I are both obsessed with it! I'm so glad your birthday was so great!! What a great husband :) Sad about Ethan!! Poor kid! I hope the surgery goes well! love you guys!

I am also a gleek. I also want the cast recordings. I've tried putting them on my playlists, but only a few work.

This pregnancy wasn't quite real to me (or I wouldn't let it be) till I saw that little heartbeat. Hope you feel better soon!

Cynthia said...

Happy Birthday! I'm sorry you have been so sick. Ick. The spotting thing can be scary. I spotted through my twin pregnancy until about 18 weeks. Hopefully it will stop soon so it will be one less source of anxiety.

I hope everyone starts to feel better quickly!

Tubes! My daughter's had to have her nose cauterized (to prevent nosebleeds) four times and she's still getting them. We've now been instructed to stuff Afrin-saturated cotton in her nose when it starts gushing, and to hope she grows out of it.

Hope the tubing helps.

I have never watched Glee - just dancing with the stars:) Glad to hear the ultrasound went well and I do hope the nausea subsides - you want to be able to enjoy the best part of being pregnant and that is eating great food!! And happy belated birthday:)

Hope you start feeling better! With my second, I was nauseous for 8 months. Not fun. But I only gained 20 pounds.

I am a Gleek too.

I've been watching Glee, though it's not at all the kind of thing I usually go for.

I hope the nausea gets better soon!

Happy belated Birthday!!

Yes. I guess I'm a closet gLeek. I would be an out-in-the-open gLeek but some of the subject matter scares me away. So for now I view it on the sly on my DVR and speed through some of the more questionable stuff.
