I largely avoided the computer, but on Sunday afternoon I checked my gmail account, my hotmail account, and my facebook page. I was on for about 10 minutes total. Then I logged off the guest side, and about 15 minutes later my dad logged on to his network. The computer freaked out, and started saying we had a virus (but it looked fake) and had to enter our credit card information to spend $49.95 to get their anti-virus protection. It wouldn't let you get out of it; it kept popping up and you couldn't access anything else on the computer.
Lo and behold, my parents' antivirus protection they had on their computer had expired at midnight that day. So approximately 13 hours later, I logged onto facebook, and it downloaded a virus on to my parents' computer, and because their antivirus program had expired less than 24 hours earlier, it wreaked havoc on my parents' computer. We had to call my computer genius brother to come fix it. And it wasn't easy. And, of course, they updated their antivirus program immediately afterward.
Lessons learned:
-Always keep your antivirus protection updated.
-Try not to feel like a jerk because you practically ruined your parents' computer over 5 minutes of checking facebook.
-Drop your facebook account because the potential viruses aren't worth it??

This morning, Ethan woke up with a sore throat. He didn't have any other symptoms at all, but he was sure he couldn't go to school without a pocketful of cough drops/sore throat lozenges. And, of course, we were completely out. So I packed up the kids and we went to the store to get lozenges before dropping Ethan off at school. It was 8:30 in the morning, and the store was very quiet. As I was leaving, I heard, "Hi, Erin!" I didn't have my contacts in, and I had taken off my glasses because I feel like a complete doofus when I wear them. I couldn't figure out who it was until I was about two feet away (hi Meladie!!).
Lessons learned:
-Wear a shirt under your coat, because you will feel self conscious and wonder if anyone notices.
-Decide whether you want to look like a doofus (because of your glasses), put your contacts in, or look like a dork because you can't see anyone.
-At least brush your hair before going anywhere in public.

P.S. I will be posting the recipes for the lasagna and breadsticks soon. I'm just lazy. In fact, I may be posting every day this week, after only posting once last week. It's feast or famine around here!
P.P.S. My Google Reader has an insane amount of posts in it. I may read them all, but I may not comment on many. Just know that I love you.
P.P.P.S. I am about three weeks behind on responding to e-mails. Again, I'm just lazy. I will get to it eventually. Sorry.

Those are great lessons learned! Thanks for sharing! I love the shirt under the coat comment. I totally do that and feel weird.
BlohHer did change my rotation, so that's good. I did have a couple other questions in that email, but no rush:)!
I hate Murphy's law.
I'm not even sure we *have* virus stuff on our computer. Yikes.
Glad you got to spend a fun weekend with family!
Doesn't it really suck that we have to learn life lessons the hard and or embarassing way?!
If it were me----I would mark them all as read....just sayin'.
And maybe make sure you've put your bra on before you leave the house.
Not that, um, I would know.
Oh, I wish I could drive 5 hours and see MY parents.
Sorry about the virus mess. Yikes.
Before I got LASIK I couldn't see anyone without my glasses or contacts. Yeah-don't you feel about 80 years old when you can't even recognize people? :)
I dropped Emma off at school the other day while wearing my pajamas.
And of course ran into someone I have a "friend crush" on. Sigh.
And I do the contacts/glasses/blind thing ALL the time.
If I'm ever feeling lonely and in need of company, I just leave the house without make up. Then I'm sure to bump into someone I know. WITHOUT FAIL.
Great lesson's learned...I have gone out just to take the kids to school and wished I had actually gotten dressed because I saw someone I knew, well they saw me...lol
Oh man I checked my my facbook on my sisters computer and it did that, but I hurried and shut it down. I told her to bring her computer next time she comes just in case and we can make sure it doesnt
Glad you had fun with family!
That particular virus is a nasty, stubborn beast. It's hit a few people I know. In fact, my husband spent several hours this past weekend fixing Kristen's computer. (I believe she's commented here. Kristen's Bunch of Boys.) We don't pay for anti-virus software. My husband found the best program he's ever used for free. It's fixed everything he's ever come across.
Got the same virus a few weeks ago and I have current virus protection that it would not let me run...luckily, like you, I had someone that could fix it fast. No fun at all - Looking forward to the recipes!
How did you make it to the store without your contacts? Though I did that once myself, it wasn't easy :)
Or another lesson learned with the virus thing-get a Mac, no viruses.
So sorry about the virus. I've had that happen before, ended up buying a new comptuer.
So, I went through and deleted ALL of my applications, and I ignore all invitations send to me on facebook. And I stopped taking the dumb quizzes.
We learned that same lesson at my house over the weekend..about the virus. It was a tough one!
Hope all is well!
I got that little virus on my computer a few weeks ago too and we have awesome anti-virus software. It is quite a clever little bug that requires you to pay to clear up the very virus it is causing. My husband is a computer guy and was able to rid my computer of it in 10 minutes (thank goodness), so just letting you know it may have gotten on there anyway even with anti-virus protection.
Funny about the grocery store - Totally Murphy's Law - I probably would have run - ha ha.
How irritating!
What a bummer having to learn those lessons the hard way!
Ha ha ha. Oh, Life, you trickster.
Just wait until that "packed the kids up" thing includes a 3rd. It's a doozy.
Hey, I thought you always wore your glasses?
The exact same thing happened to my parents. They couldn't get rid of it. AND their antivirus stuff was up to date. THey are now in the market for a new computer.
You know the moment you make an effort before you go out, you won't see anyone at all. That's always the way it works.
