Time to Go Shopping?

For the last three days I have been feeling good. Finally! Friday I got this huge burst of energy and decided to clean the entire kitchen, top to almost bottom (I hate floors. I only do them when I absolutely can't stand it anymore.). I even cleaned out the fridge and Christian cleaned the oven. I suppose it could be nesting, but I still have four weeks left.

Usually I only clean out the fridge when it is disgusting and I can't take it anymore either (yes, I'm lazy when it comes to deep cleaning. You got a problem with that???) Anyway, it was quite easy this time to clean it out, and I'll show you why:It's easy to clean when there's nothing in it! My fridge looks like this right now. Top shelf: cream cheese, ranch dressing, Country Crock, leftovers from last night, yeast in the back. Middle shelf: orange juice, milk, water, and a gallon of Dippin' Sauce (if you've got a gallon of Dippin' Sauce, you don't need anything else in your fridge. You could sustain life on that stuff forever.) In the cheese drawer: a small block of cheddar cheese. Bottom shelf: frostings and Capri Suns left over from Ethan's birthday party. Fruit & vegetable drawers: empty.

There is a reason why my fridge is so empty. You remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about our food budget, and how I upped the amount so I had an amount every week I could work with? Well, at the beginning of this month two grocery stores in town had case lot sales, and I went a little crazy purchasing cases of green beans, apple juice, peanut butter, etc. So things have been a little skimpy toward the end of this month to make up for the case lot splurge. But hallelujah, it's May, and my budget has refreshed! So this evening, my fridge will be completely stocked with all sorts of good stuff (and my cupboard will be stocked with all sorts of junk food, but that's another post for another time).

Oh, Erin, our fridge always looks like that. Oh, with a bag of moldy vegetables too.

I abhor cleaning the fridge. Worst job ever. Hope you have fun grocery shopping today!

Aren't budgets such a killjoy?? I HATE food budgets especially! I also hate cleaning my floors. Usually I make Mark do it.

Good luck at the store...

Like Barbaloot I hate cleaning the fridge (and defrosting the freezer). I love when there is hardly anything in there and I go shopping knowing I'll be filling it up. About once a month or so when it looks like that I just wipe everything down really quick and throw out anything that, um, isn't fresh, and call that deep cleaning. Like you say, it's so easy when there's nothing in there! Defrosting the freezer, though? Still not easy when it's empty.

Our fridge looks like that right now....we've been out of town a lot in the last few weeks, so there really hasn't been a lot of grocery shopping happening. That all changes tonight!

Crap. Must you remind me that my fridge and oven need cleaning? How often should an oven be cleaned? More than once every three years? Then I'm over due.

WOW! I am in envy of your sparkling clutter-free fridge!!! If I posted a photo of mine right this minute, it may very well embarrass me enough to actually clean it. LOL. I am willing to pay someone big bucks to do it for me. :) (And while they are at it, they can clean my oven too...)

That is TOTALLY my fridge. With mystery leftovers--minus the vat of dipping sauce, that stuff looks awesome!

You are so nesting, my friend! Your bag better be packed! I'm cleaning out my fridge today, too. It's the worst job ever. boo.

Our fridge looks like that every other week, since I get my budget bi-weekly. Full now, empty next Monday.

You're getting close!

I fear that there may be two, possibly three, health code violations going on in my fridge... Wanna come and nest here?

oh it's been so looooong since i've been in possession of dippin' sauce -- do i have to order it online or is there somewhere you get it around your neck of the woods? (or mine?)

I'm not even thinking about cleaning my fridge. Bleech

I am impressed how clean it is... I would be very afraid to take a picture of my fridge. And yes caselot sales are wonderful/horrible things when it comes to the budget. So good in the end but does put you in a pinch for a while

I'm pretty sure my fridge saw your fridge..it's threatening to move out!

My fridge is NEVER that clean. It's not that we have more food..just lots of OLD, Dead, Moldy food that needs to be cleaned out!

I wish I had the discipline you do..to stick to just a strict grocery budget! You go girl!

I LOVE that you have a gallon of dippin' sauce in the fridge! That is awesome! (Where can I get myself one of those?) =)

also - good luck with the baby and going natural. My version of going natural is waiting as long as I can and then getting the epidural. My labors are so long that pain medication is worth it. Good luck! We are thinking about you.

Love,
J
